Discord is just a brain dead ability and his right click doesn’t belong on a support. Make discord a skill shot and remove his burst dmg and then just increase his healing slightly to compensate.

I think the main problem is that discord gets so much value for so little work. Hiding behind a wall also doesn’t feel very fun, and while it’s better than discord literally having 0 cooldown in any way. A major change is needed because Zen does just feel bad to play against, and making it so that his abilities require any type of commitment would alleviate a lot of the pain. A plain cooldown probably ain’t the answer though.

3 small hot takes: 1. DPS passive should be normalized by fire-rate/damage dealt. A stray Tracer bullet and a Widow scoped shot should not give the same 2 second healing reduction. 2. Tanks need more survivability, but this should not be more health. Turn ~100 health into armor on each tank. 3. Armor should be at the bottom of health pools. Once a tank runs out of armor, it becomes so much harder to keep them alive since they're taking more damage.

This sounds really good - right now ball is meta because he has shields that prevent him from being afflicted with the DPS passive. In order to even out the playing field between tanks, I wonder if they should rather change that until the armor is off, DPS passive can't be afflicted on tanks/something similar.

I mean, ignoring the gameplay implications of #3, it’s just a weird idea to have armor under normal health. You break through armor to get to the squishy bits, unless we’re saying Reinhardt’s skin is harder than the suit of armor he wears.

Hot take: I think the OG tanks from Overwatch 1 need some major reworks. Most of the tanks were designed with 6v6 in mind and I think they need some R&D to make tank feel more impactful and less like you're just falling over whenever you try to make a play

Hot Take: Scoreboard should be customizable. More details for your own team, of course, but I feel that for lower ranks seeing how much healing each hero has received (on your own team only) would be tremendously helpful.

issue is half the time the person complaining about "no healing" is literally just walking out in the open and expecting to live through it... so the stats WOULD show less healing received... but not the reason why@@Dingle.Donger

Exactly lmao the terrible response to the second comment kinda shows it. "Oh solo q is admittedly terrible and we have data to prove this.... but a win loss system is fine because we're operating in a bad oversimplified elo system so we need to oversimplify our variables." Like dude hes not arguing against the win loss system he's arguing against the system that necessitates a win loss measurement (ELO itself). These people are so out of touch, they genuinely don't know what it's like to play solo q and not be so massively better than everyone else that you CAN have that solo carry impact. Even unranked to GM "challenges" don't actually help them understand it just proves it further by how fast the game pushes them ahead to the next rank because it knows they're ruining the game for lower ranked players. So the solution is just to instantly be GM level?

solo queue literally isn’t even that bad imo also he has a point. you can pop off, but if you’re not winning the game, it wasn’t enough. more than likely, however, if you maintain that performance your next team will be better and you’ll easily carry. i would absolutely agree with him that this game has so many variables that a w/l system is basically the only way to properly gauge rank. edit: typo

look, i'm new and solo q is brutal. that said, if you are consistently performing at slightly above your rank then every team you're on will have one high quality player and four chances at trash. the enemy team will have five chances at trash. believe it or not that small edge will translate to wins. it just takes a lot of games.

Hot take: One shots may not be great for the game, but a hero like hanzo doesnt have any identity without it. Heres a compromise: hanzo base Headshot damage for fully charged normal arrows changed to 225, but give headsgots Bleed damage of 50 over 5 seconds. This will give a window to save if they get healed by support or pick up a health pack, but will still kill if they dont heal. These numbers arent set in stone obviously, but i think something like this would help bring back hanzos identity and not just a spam bot.

I’ve always thought that one shots could be given more balance by either tying them to an ability so atleast you knew the cooldown for when it was possible (if possible adding a visual indicator would also be nice) OR balance them out by having it be less frequent. Widow kind of has this with her shots needing to be charged you can’t spam your shots or it does less damage and hanzo’s trajectory changes with how long you hold the fire key just make it take much longer to charge and it would be much more balanced since they would maybe get one pick but now they’ve given away their position and they won’t have enough time to charge another shot before you can dive them or counter snipe.

I don't know man, he would be really strong with one-shots. His identity is a sniper that can't be punished by dive (E + Wall climbing + Jump on a short cooldown). Giving him a one-shot potential is just not fair to Widowmaker, who has only a grapple to defend herself from dive. He's a mid B right now - just wait until they nerf hitscans/other oppressive heroes and he'll be alright.

⁠@@AnimeOtaku56.eh to me it was always survivability/raw healing which made supports broken before this update. people cried discord orb is broken, but zen was a pretty weak hero post nerf pre rework. Or nade, but ana is not great right now despite nade. Or how illari broke the game because of turret creep, but really numbers and breakpoint changes made her go from meta to average to bad now. Not even bothering with mercy bap kiriko because same thing To me the utility was never The problem. Theyre all impactful, but hearing that theyre all fundamentally broken and needing a full rework at some point, I disagree with. Almost everything in OW is fundamentally broken in any other fps anyway

Hot take: Sombra's invisibility should flat out be on a cooldown similar to echoes flight you should get 7-9 seconds of invisibility and when you break it you should have to wait for your cooldown back like everyone else. She now HAS to disengage after an engagement vs getting invisibility back for free for using another cooldown.

Maybe hot take... supports are supposed to be annoying, they are meant to stop the enemy from doing something. That could be preventing a kill or pressuring the flanking hero. That's part of their job, they are meant to be annoying

Literally not what supports are supposed to do. It’s basically only Overwatch that has supports designed this way. Supports are supposed to provide buffs and status effects for THEIR team. Not instantly shut down anything the other team does.

@@azura8675 the point isn’t that they can kill people, it’s that they do too much dmg. A supports ttk should be twice as long as a DPS, no support should be doing more than 3-5k dmg in a match yet half of them can easily put out 10k. Supports are fundamental flawed from a design standpoint as they have an inherent value ceiling above their other counterparts well being just as easy if not easier to play and master.

Hot take from an ex-T500 road hog main in OW1 and individual presently pursuing a master’s degree in psychology: The only delusion surrounding ranked grinds is the supposition of superiority. If someone is a higher rank than you, that is more indicative of playtime than skill. In my T500 grind in the past, I was not a T500 player. I was diamond on a good day. However, I was playing for 12 hours a day, and became attuned enough to the meta to find ways to contribute to my games on a consistent basis. Don’t let higher ranked players bully you into feeling inferior, check their vods and find out yourself.

Support changes: Ana’s heal should be 80 per shot she should have the highest single target healing Lucio should heal 20hps, and to compensate his boosted heal should be 40hps for 4 seconds instead of 3 seconds and the more teammates in his aura this is boosted by 5 hps per team mate. His heal should lock his sound switch with this And zens orb should heal teammates around the target for 50% of the orbs heal (15 hps)

putting individual ranks will only lead to insulting players and does nothing else, time on objective on the scoreboard doesn’t really matter and would just clutter it

@@tesla6938 On the rank insults, maybe, but I still want to know if the other team is stacked or not, out of curiosity. On the topic of objective time, I would agree, except we have things like damage mitigated on there now. Objective time should be up there before damage mitigated imo.

Regarding the heroes tiers on maps and points, I think it would be helpful if we had a website that showed for each hero approximate matchups and information on why it's that and what to do, and what maps and points they're good or bad on and why, etc

Hot take: wrecking ball should be changed to a dps. Since ow2, it’s been proven that his kit is not built for 5v5, and he’s been pretty much useless until this patch, where his only job is to survive and let your dps do all the work. Make him have 350 health/armour/shields, make him smaller (maybe bastion sized) and make rework his adaptive shields to be a more damage dealing ability, and I think he could fulfil a roll similar to sombra and work very well as a general disruptor while still having a tank to back him up.

@@TheMortalKombatent well doom works as a dive tank at least, only reason I don’t like him as a tank is because Winston and dva already are great dive tanks, but wrecking ball needs another tank to help him take off pressure, he’s not designed to solo tank at all, and doom is

33% tenacity seems a little low imo. I would go 50% status effect resistance to start out, and tune it as it goes. Of course this would only work if we didn't get updates once a month or whatever it is. I never paid attention to their schedule.

Brings new bash could still have an interrupt outside the ult , small change that would be very circumstantial as most heroes don't even have a channel ability.

I think that certain heroes have been left behind so many heroes especially in the dps role either received no changes at all other than to their numbers or the “reworks” were so meaningless that it basically inspired the same playstyle as before. One example is soldier 76 I feel as though even though he is the “call of duty” character (sprint, shoot, nade, occasionally heal) there is so much that could have been done with him he is a genetically enhanced super soldier with years of experience as the leader of overwatch and as a vigilante why not have him make use of the fact that he is more than just his gun and give him a new ability or two that actually inspires a different playstyle than what we already had in the original OW.

About the DPS passive: I think that it's duration should be based on the amount of damage delt. This would make the dumb tick damage from tracer/reaper not be as crazy, and burst heros like Hanzo/junkrat would have a longer effectiveness

Couple Room Temp Takes: Change the scoreboard so Elims are read more like 'Last Hit Kill' or something similar. Too many people least around gold/plat think elims are flat kills. 2nd: Change the dps passive on tanks to 10 or 15%. They are the biggest targets and alone. Tanks need to be able to...tank. Mauga doesn't have bad hero design. He merely exists in a state of OW where Tank is unfun to play; we do not have a frame of reference for the big guy who doesn't die and blasts dual miniguns like the badass he is.

Hot Take: The DPS passive should have a build up mechanic that adds an X% healing reduction per X damage dealt. For example, for each 50 damage a hero receives, a 5% healing reduction charge is added to this hero (capped at a certain percent or number of charges). Every 1 second of not taking damage would remove one of these charges for example. Tanks could be tuned so either the required damage per charge is higher or the percent reduction per charge is lower. This would also add a bit of interesting play from Supports because their healing would be initially better if they notice and respond quickly to new incoming damage.

My hot take: dps and support passives are cheap ways to try and balance each role and has made their actual abilities less impactful over time as they get nerfed to counter the passive effects. I think that’s one reason abilities from certain characters can feel oppressive. As an Ana main I miss the high risk/ high reward of her kit from OW1 versus the pile of mush she is now with her support passive. Yes I survive more engagements without health packs, but god damn is it boring.

When i switched to OW from Paladins one thing i did miss was the customization of characters. From choosing 1 of 3 talents just before match to the granular building of loadout/decks. Would be very cool to see some of these aspects implemented in ow (even an arcade more) somehow. It’d be fun to see KarQ try paladins!!!

Hot take: kirikos damage profile makes her very feast or famine while ruining her for the lower skill tiers Hear me out. She was originally sold as flanker/assassin support but we found out heal botting for ult was the way. Then they smoked the ult. Its charge rate. Nerfed suzu from an invuln standpoint but made it more responsive and heal more. And made her swap from healing to damage more fluid But all they did to her damage was give her more kunais. Buff the fire rate a little and change the minimum damage from 40... to 45. But lowered the headshot multiplier a little... doing basically nothing lol Just have her shoot 60 damage kunais and she does 2x for headshots... she doesn't 2 tap non widow/tracer anymore. But you don't feel like you are meleeing someone to death... because that's how it is when you don't headshot lol

Hot take: dps passive length should vary based on character and ability. For example tracer's dps passive should be 1 second, but widow should be 4 seconds. Ashe's main weapon should be 3 sec, but her dynamite should be 1 sec (after it runs out).

My take: make DPS have 1 role spot and Tank have 2. 1 tank has made the game counterwatch and makes dying happen much more. This would also alleviate the abysmal performance of support this season (bc DPS passive) by bringing more sustain and less of this passive Also slows the game a bit, allowing more strategic thinking instead of the “which soldier hits his shots first”

The thing with the dps passive is kinda - you can buff the raw number from a heal ability - but that raw number will be a specific situation where you can get it. Lets take ana heal as an example - how often do you really heal the 70 heal per shot at the moment? all these little passive things are just kinda weird to calculate and know cause every raw heal number need to put in a specific situation if that will really works (espacially without the visual indicator for the dps passive)

what if supports had a secondary small passive where they would automatically heal allies in a radius around them a bit like lucio heal does but at like 1-2 health per second. something very small but that could be interesting if you can keep a fight lasting, you get healed quite a bit over time.

hot take: having a mercy pocket is more of a burden than a blessing. sure, ur dmg numbers are higher but i already have the dps passive. it just feels like more eyes are on me when her blue beam is connected and i have to keep her safe. i main pharah so i cant rlly be aggressive or it'll put her in danger etc. (ana or zen pocket>)

With the stacking question, stacking may not improve the win rate of equally skilled players, but someone analyzed flats this season and his solo win rate was ~45 and duo was 56% and 4/5 were ~54%. The conclusion is that lower skilled and/or equally skilled players are getting carried and/or preforming better when teamed up.

hot take: make the new competitive point system 15 points for a win 5 for a loss. It sucks to lose a long match just to be basically not rewarded with anything. Also bring back rank rewarded points for the end of the season. I’m usually busy with school and don’t get to play as much to grind for some of the skins. That system helped me a lot to get gold skins in the past because I would usually place in diamond to master!

that person who suggested rank specific projectile sizes was spittin... it would probably fail in practice because it would be abused, but on paper i really like it. i get to go back how the game was before s9 (i hate the new hitboxes) and lower rank players get the qol buff that helps them find the game more enjoyable

You mention Lucio speed boost and Mercy damage boost as things that don't show on the scoreboard, but they do, on the personal scoreboard and in the assist counter. Literally anything you can mark as an indicator of skill could be measured, including line of sight manipulation or the effectiveness of a rez. There *should* be some individual influence on rank, and if there seem to be outliers gaming the system, you don't throw away the system, you use statistics and add weight to numbers to keep it fair. Furthermore, maybe a hot take, the scoreboard should show final blows, and we should get a comprehensive post-game scoreboard for EVERYONE'S stats, complete with Shield Damage, accuracy, damage dealt and to whom, damage received and by whom, healing received and from whom, healing dealt and to whom (could be handled with an expandable menu for cleanliness), damage boosted/amped/nano'd, assists, lives saved, objective time, objective kills, all of it. Not checkable during the game, for the sake of not giving people an activity to use to be toxic during a match, but it would give a lot more helpful information, especially when reviewing a match. And honestly, it would feel good to see that the ego-boosted Soldier who went 37-14, next to me at 32-9, only got their damage by mashing into the tank and has half my final blows.

Hot Take: remove the ult retention passive from all roles and instead take away their ult charge or make it so it the ult cost increases if you swap so many times within a certain amount of time. This way you can keep the counter swapping mechanic, but it puts more emphasis on skill with any given hero and not a game of rock-paper-scissors for the tank role specifically.

I could be wrong but back in the day you gained sr based off wins obviously but the hero you played and the stats that you got on that hero played into your sr gains/ losses as well. So if you had a really good game as Lucio the system would base your gains partly off of other Lucio players stats. Thats how one tricks were able to climb to t500. Like how otp sym mains could climb very high just because nobody played the hero so when they won they gained more than their teammates and when they lost they lost less sr than their teammates.

Hot Take: As someone who has half-decent aim, snipers never make Overwatch, or almost any game that includes them, fun. They literally play a point and click simulator that only gets interrupted if they get dove, and they are so weak at close range that they go from being extremely powerful to helpless. I'm mainly talking about Widow, who I think is by far the worst character in this game, but to a certain extent Ashe, and Hanzo. In a game with Widow, it is impossible for both the Widow and the other team to both have fun at the same time.

hot take: junkrat can’t be a fun and/or good hero without his one shot or a rework. in metal ranks it’s easy to get value by spam however in higher elo it was incredibly hard to get value with junk and now in season 9 even with buffs he is still insanely bad and need his one shot to work

Hot take: Junkrat primary should explode on impact instead of bouncing, making nade jumps easier and choke spam worse. This would make him less annoying for low rank players and give him more skill expression, and buffing primary damage to give his one shot combo back would be more reasonable at low ranks.

2 Hot takes: 1. Only Tanks should have CC abilities 2. Unranked to GM is cool and all but I don’t think these content creators can take an account from bronze 5 to GM by only solo queueing and dealing with those problems. I started on OW2 and I was placed in silver, dropped to bronze 5 and in one year I made it to masters 5 solo queuing. It took tons of hard work and dedication. But these content creators will 3,4 or 5 stack in placements and get high ranks and this disproves their cognitive dissonance that you don’t need good teammates. Michael Jordan was never winning any championship without Scottie Pippen and the team. Yea your own gameplay matters more than anything else because that’s what you can control. But let’s not act like these content creators solo climb from the depths of bronze and deal with those same teammates we complain about.

This shouldn’t be a hot take, but role passives benefiting some heroes more than others isn’t a problem (you just have to account for it when balancing heroes, such as how Tracer became broken by being the biggest beneficiary of the dps passive and may need a compensatory nerf), and they do help to give roles an identity.

Problem is that that was not something designed, it was not a strategic choice, the devs just made a bandid, blanket solution that happened to buff some more then others, which will always happen giving blanket changes to 20 plus heroes. It's not really an identity if every one has the samething. It was not a well designed identity out of game balance, just random effects out of a badly executed change. If it was damage based or had varying effects based on your fire rate that would should they did care about identity but they didn't.

Completely agree with the first hot take. Ranking should not be based on wins and losses if it is not a 1v1. CoD Bo4 had this system where the wins and losses mattered but how you played determines your skill rank. Whereas in Pokemon it is a true elo system for a 1v1. It is infuriating dropping rank going 43-5 with 19k damage and 17k mitigated only to lose because my support was playing Ana in season 9, or my dps had their head up their ass for half the game😔 Edit: solo Q is a nightmare…but when I play with my friends the elo system is fine because it’s a 5v5

I agree that the system is flawed for teams vs 1v1 but you can't really compare it to CoD.. Most CoD game modes can be won/lost via eliminations, you don't necessarily HAVE to play the objective, unlike OW. Its easier to determine an SR based on stats in those situations. In OW you can go 20-2 and still easily lose... its pretty hard to do that in CoD.

Elo in a team game is still fair, and it still works, but it’s noisier. In 1v1 environments where your own skill is more valuable in each individual game, it takes fewer games for your rating to reflect your “true” skill; teams mean that individually you will lose games you didn’t “deserve” to, but the opposite is also true and over many games your influence will denoise those games

dont know if this is really that hot of a take, but i believe rein needs a better steadfast passive like 40-50%, with all the boops in the game and especially lucio getting the boop buff i feel as tho the one melee character shouldnt be pushed around by 5 heros on the enemy team, at times they have more control over where he goes then the player playing rein

Hot take: I think Roadhog should not be affected by dps passive at all. It's unfair, that it's his main way of doing mitigating damage and he is being hard nerfed while other tanks has shields or blocks or extra hp that not being affected by that dps passive that much as him. For him not to be too broken his damage reduction from healthbreather obviously should be lowered like to 35-40%

Hot take: the only reason that 5v5 is "better" is because the devs are actually supporting it. If 6v6 had the support and consistent updates that 5v5 has had 6v6 would be more balanced. The way to win most games right now is just counter pick the tank, its not only the biggest target but theres only one of them to focus on. 6v6 would easily help eliviate the "counterwatch" issue by having another tank to help relieve pressure from you even if they counter pick, making tank a much more enjoyable role.

You can potentially win a 4v5 if a dps or support happen to leave or are non impactful. You will 1000% lose if your tank is non impactful or leaves.

Hot take: Blizzard should never allow players to 'go infinite' with the Battle Pass. This battle pass is already the greatest battle pass out of the live service games around, and enabling players to do so would mean they'd need to make it harder to complete as otherwise; they'd actively be losing money as a company. Get over the idea of owning everything, and savor purchasing the items you truly are excited for.

Damage mitigated serves no purpose as a stat. Replace it with healing received and maybe the tank that hogged all the heal wont complain he doesnt get healed, same goes for the dps.

Hot take: content creators play almost a completely different game to the rest of us and going to them for advice is unhelpful. It'd be like asking a professional chef with thousands of dollars worth of equipment who has to make consistent, amazing food quickly why your Kraft single grilled cheese isnt melting properly. They can help you with some of the stepping stones to get to a higher level but they're far too out of touch to help the average player.

Not-surprisingly, you're purposefully ignoring what he actually said ... he didn't say Ana's sleep dart hits 75% of the time... he said almost anyone can land **a NADE or sleep ** ON A TANK ** ... 75% of the time, which, with how big tanks are, and how big projectiles are, is probably actually a gross underestimate. I mean, if you miss a nade or sleep on a tank you'd have to be playing blindfolded, while eating a sandwich. With both hands. I know Ana's WANT to believe they're a "skill" character, but she has her pick and win rate over the last 7 years for a reason, and that reason isn't because she's difficult to play.

Hm.. My win rate when 3 stacking is like 80-90% in the D1-M2 range. I think stacking is pretty busted right now. Can't speak to higher player counts. We queue 1 of each role, which eliminates 2 stacks of DPS and 2 stacks of support. This is a conspiracy, but I think 2 stacks of a single role don't provide as good a value as they both do the same thing and don't gain as much of an advantage as you would with cross role duos. Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Playing solo queue is absolutely miserable, as your stuck with tank swap vs otp lottery.

Dude, KarQ going to bat and try to explain stacking not being as good as people think is dumb as hell. Its disingenuous to say crunch the stats when its kind of undeniable better. I do not see stacking as a problem for rank or general play, its a team game and of course playing with people you know is going to be drastically better than playing with randoms. Even just one player you regularly play with in the lobby makes your experience much better. I just wish I can see who is grouped up on my team and on the enemy team along with matchmaking 5 stacks with other 5 stacks. I think overwatch needs to allow stacking in top level play for sure, as that's what the goal of a team based shooter is, to assemble a ruthless team of friends to climb. Its basically a requirement for other games like Siege to get a group together to hit top ranks and I think overwatch should take some of those aspects. Overwatch is a game where individuals not playing their roles in the team stops the rest of the team from being able to succeed so as messed up as it is, solo queue climbing is supposed to be worse in a team based shooter. In siege and other shooters, its pretty common to scoop up randoms you met in your lobbies for ranked and I wish that was more encouraged by overwatch. Constantly pandering to solo queue one tricks is not competative at all, as while it does encourage independent growth as a player, ITS A TEAM BASED SHOOTER. Do people think when they watch nationals, they just scooped up all the best solo queue players they could and made a team? NO, They are the best TEAMS with tones of experience playing together. What funny is that XBOX and PS4 dont really have the voice chat vs discord problem, as people just join a party. There is not really a way to fix people being on discord over game chat, but I think to thing to aid this issue is to show the grouped players like they used 2 in addition to matchmaking them with similar groups. No solo queue player wants play against a 5 stack with a 4 stack team that doesn't want to talk to them in game chat, as that clearly leaves them out of the team dichotomy. With that said, Overwatches goal should not be to split up the other 9 players to pander for the 1!

I only had time for about 4 matches tonight all 4 games either had many leavers on my team making it impossible to win or I was backfill in a losing match. When people que into backfill they leave but not me I feel like I am punished for wanting to see a game to its end sometimes. Sign up to play or dont play at all.

Only Win/Lost system is totally unfair and stupid. Your skill should determinate your rank, and not only how other four people in your team are doing. Yeah, win should have a big impact on your rank, but should not be the only factor. I personally have no motivation to play Comp because of this, because this way it feels like my skill is meaningless. And in OW you have 1000 different stats that are recorded, so it sure could be done in a way that that match stats could factor to your progression, e.g. you have damage/10 min, so in your current rank players on same hero have avg. 10k damage, but you do 12k, you should have a little bonus (and when you do only 5k, you gest penalty). It could go for healing and damage boosts the same. And yes, it would have to be tweaked and counted that one stat should have more impact then other, but from 2016 they could really done it by now.

The win/loss system isn't perfect but it is probably the best single definer of your performance. I was in a game where the only reason we won was because the bastion who kept dying swapped to sombra and just hacked health packs and res mercy the ball couldn't go for health and the mercy couldn't res him. They finished 2-7 and we won during overtime on push. I've personally played a lot of low elim Tracer gameplay where I've had two supports pocket each other at spawn for 30 seconds+ without killing them. Should that not be better than if I were in the team fight, peppered 3 of the enemy team so technically i get countered in the elim, but kirko ulted and mercy res and we lost. I'll end up with a better looking scoreboard, but a loss. Over the course of a few games, even a few dozen the win/loss is an inaccurate representation of your ability to work in a team and your performance in the game. But once you get into the hundreds of games and thousands of games, an average of your wins/losses against differently ranked opponents is a relatively accurate representation of your skill in a tram based game.
