Which one was your favorite?! Just so you know, the JodyJazz HR and SYOS had to be filmed on a different day due to stock issues! We hope you enjoyed the video!

I could tell you were filming the Jody and syos on a different day because the sound was more breath in flavour - my preference. You sound great man. We should only buy gear that we feel comfortable hearing and playing. Thank you for a great video.

Hi there! Jody Jazz HR was my fav. Really balanced throughout the whole range and a very natural sound!

Vandoren Jumbo Java, Otto Link Vintage, and the JodyJazz Jet all gave me the warm fuzzies: nice edge with good body and depth behind them.

Could we get classical playing on the classical mouthpieces? I know the scales and patterns itself weren’t jazz specific, but the embouchure certainly was. Would really help show what those pieces can do!

Great video! I'd love to see an alto version, especially with one of those old-school open chamber mouthpieces, like a Rascher or Caravan!

I liked the Yanagisawa the most. The Vandoren V16 Second and The V16 Jumbo Java 3rd (that one sounded like it wanted to be pushed). The Jody Jazz HR and Jet were not bad either. They, like the Jumbo Java, sounded like they needed to be pushed. The Meyer was my least favorite. I found that the Yamaha 4C sounded way better.

Strangely all Selmers sound so close, that I am unable to hear almost any difference here on a good pair of headphones and studio monitors. On other KZbin comparisons I was able to hear a difference between S80 and S90. Jody Jazz HR sounds nice, but there is a slight change in the intonation - sounds a tad higher than the others. Was that intentional or intonation is harder with it - asking for a beginner to intermediate level player?

Clearly my preference is Jody Jazz

Nice comparison. You mentioned that all of the mpcs are about a 7 or 7* tip opening, but as far as I know the Yamaha 4C has a much smaller tip opening. Wouldn't a Yamaha 5C or 6C be a bit closer to the other tip openings?

Some of those sounded like the reed wasn't suitable for the mouthpiece. Maybe the reed was too hard? The JodyJazz HR and Jet were my favourites, they seem to play the best with your reed. Are you going to do one of these fir alto sax? I am interested in trying a new alto mouthpiece to see if I can find one that plays better for me than the ones I use.
@saxworldwide2 жыл бұрын
100% agree, with any new mouthpiece it's worth trying different reeds to find the right pairing. We will definitely do this for alto in the future!

I noticed that too. Looks like he was using a Rovner light ligature. I have used them before and noticed they tend to add resistance and make lower notes harder to play (had the same issue on alto and soprano versions) and I got a slightly better response with a Rovner Dark ligature and a much better response with a BG Duo ligature, so it could be the ligature as well that is causing that, not just the reed.
@alice_atari2 жыл бұрын
I would call that too hard a reed/ligature setup since a lot of the mouthpieces failed in the low register
@cilantro5221 Жыл бұрын
Only thing that annoys me a bit, I am primarily a classical player, is that you played jazz on classical mouthpieces, I am aware that they can be used for jazz, but I feel like these mouthpieces will be glanced over simply due to the fact that they didn't sound very good when played in this setting. Great video though.
@hunkydorian Жыл бұрын
Not many people here liked the ones that I liked. The 1940s saxophones had a woody, you could say V-shaped sound. They sounded like saxophones. That's what I seek. I don't like saxes that sound like fuzztones. There's nothing to like there.
