I have an early version of this tent with a regular end opening stuff sack. So glad to see this tent reviewed. The fly first pitch with the included ground sheet is ideal. It’s only weakness? Its width. Two 25” pads don’t fit. Let’s add 3 more inches and you’ve got the perfect 2 person tent.
@reginapettyАй бұрын
I agree that 48” width belies the 2-person claim. For some reason, the industry thinks that people are still sleeping on 20” pads. However, given that this is the ultralight version, maybe the 20” use case is valid. I would hope that the heavier version of the tent better accommodates 25” pads.

Hi Luke! I bought the tent in the summer and have used it on three trips. Once with a friend and just like you said, it was easy to share the weight as the parts are easily taken apart. I haven't had a leak once and it has rained on three nights. The only downside in my opinion was that when two people sleep inside, the side walls are a bit too close to the sleeper and I got a couple of mosquito bites while the fabric was stuck to me. Otherwise, an excellent tent for the price. Have a good early winter and stay warm! -Aleksi

I thought exactly the same thing while watching. (Itiwit X500) Current tents are Tentsile Una and Naturehike Mongar 2; the Una's great for rocky tree-covered Finnish islands where a conventional tent is useless, but is itself useless in northern Lapland where the trees come up to your waist. Mongar's thin but long, Una's short but fat, both relatively awkward to pack.

I have the regular version of this. Mine didn't come with colour-coded poles but some electrical tape worked. Surprisingly stable in high winds. I have more solid mesh on my inner and can't say condensation has been an issue. Vestibules are huge, plenty of space for storage and cooking. The down side to mine is the weight, about double the weight of the UL. Happy Christmas from Co Kilkenny.. the resting place of Santa Clause.. (Oops! Do children read these comments?) 😅

I have a Magellan two person backpacking tent. I'm pretty sure it's a copy of a Coleman tent I had 20 years ago. It's absolutely identical, but when it says two person, they better be very comfortable with one another. Me and my ex slept in my Coleman one probably 27 years ago. We both had thermarest bed mats and they overlap big time. That takes a little wider than mine but 4 ft is for two people that are very comfortable with one another. I tried to sleep in one of those little one person motorcycle tents one night. I can't say I got much sleep. I don't know if I still have that tent or not but it was not for a broad shouldered individual. You could not roll over in that tent to save your life. That'll probably never happen again. Anyways, that is a pretty nice tent you're giving a review on there. I like the big vegetables on both sides. That is a must-have for a Backpacker.

Most tents come in a large bag w a pole bag and a stake bag inside of it. All you have to do is put the body and the fly in a separate small stuff sacks and either put them all in the big bag or split them up any way you like. Also helpful in wet conditions if the tent and fly go in dry bags.

I have a four year old Nature Hike Mongar. The floor along with the floor matt is no longer waterproof. Can you advise how to make it waterproof again? Visually it still looks okay
@Im_With_Stupid8 күн бұрын
It can be done, but it's complicated, very time consuming, has some special requirements and isn't worth the effort on a cheap tent. My advice is to toss the ground sheet and get a piece of Tyvek Homewrap instead. This stuff is very strong and naturally very waterproof and as long as you keep it under the tent body it shouldn't pick up any water. Unless your tent floor has become flaky, sticky, stinky or any combination of the three, odds are very good this is all you'll need to do to make it usable again and you can put grommets in the corners and fix it to the tent just like the factory one. Coghlan's makes snap together plastic ones that are really easy to use and don't require any tools except for a hammer if you have weak fingers. If it HAS become one or more of those things, just toss it. It can be fixed, but it's not worth it. Get a new one and never store it in the carry sack because that's what makes the waterproofing fail prematurely. Store it loosely piled in a mesh laundry bag instead and then pack it when you're going to use it.

Great review, look forward to you testing the tent. I buy gear mostly based on your testing as it has been most accurate. With that said, though, the reason I would not drop 200 on this with so much to choose from now on the market is the white netting. I just hate that. Looks cheesy like a Walmart tent. The storage system is cool, for sure, but I always use either our ultra lite Sea to Summit or Snugpack dry bags for our tents to really compress down and really keep them separate from other gear as they are usually wet and filthy. Like that white mesh will look in short order. The irony is the name 'Nature Hike', meaning to me, blending in with nature as you go. That's pretty funny. Again many companies grasp that now...and they did here with the fly...so...yet missed the mark with the mesh and ground sheet? Confusing. Especially in something ultra lite you can pack in with, and where you may want to camp like you have often and be incognito or 'stealth'. Black would have been so easy to pull off, sad.
@ipedros75 күн бұрын
The fly cut out is similar to the MSR Freelite tents. Not a fan of a fly that doesn't cover all of the tent though. The Inner shape seems a double of the Sierra Designs Meteor 3000, which I find brilliant. The non ultra light version looks even more of a double overall.

I am worried about 15D being less durable and not as waterproof, could this be a thing? Thanks for the review. Super helpful!
@Im_With_Stupid8 күн бұрын
15D is less durable than 20D, but still plenty durable for the average backpacker. If it was something you were going to take deep into the backcountry and/or needed complete faith that it wasn't going to fail, you might opt for 40D or higher or even polyester. If it makes you nervous you can back up the floor with a piece of Tyvek to ensure that nothing short of a roofing nail will punch through it, but you do have to be careful because nylon has high tear strength when dry but when it's wet it drops like a rock. The waterproofness comes from the treatment, not the material, and NH uses fairly high HH ratings (usually around 3000mm or higher). The problem with their waterproofing, and it's not really a problem as much as just something to be aware of, is that it's low penetration as the fabric is low grade generic. That said, we've had a couple NH tents for a few years now that get a lot of use and throughout many rain showers neither has ever leaked a drop through either the fly or the floor. I even had one of them (Opalus 2) out in tropical storm Ophelia in '23. It flat poured the entire night and it stayed bone dry even in the vestibule. It's 15D nylon, too. Very impressive tent, but I do use Tyvek ground sheets with them because there's so many holly leaves where we go and they will turn your tent floor and your sleeping pad into a pincushion.
