I've had two flat tires on cars in 40 years. I got my Model 3 a year ago and I've had two flats on IT in one year. Same tire, picked up a screw. Slow leaks fortunately so I was able to drive to tire shop.Maybe could have plugged it but I was close to the shop. But I may have to reluctantly consider one of these. Thanks for the video.

Great idea but then I just eliminate any room in my trunk. Do they have a folding tire? Or a tire where you just add water? Another solution is to carry a tire plug kit, and an electric tire pump. This would work in most situations. At least you could limp to the nearest tire place.

My current car did not come with a spare tire, instead it has an electric tire pump. I have used it a couple of times during the 11 years I have had my car. Most situations can be handled using the pump and drive to the nearest tire service center, I know it doesn't solve the situation where the tire is exploded but this has never happened to me in the 25 years I have owned a car.
@evdave5283 жыл бұрын
Correct but for me driving everywhere I can move down the road and get a tire that can’t be filled with the pump at a later date. I usually drive 500-750 miles a day. Thanks

Hi Dave I bought this before I took delivery of my . When I picked up my the Tesla de.livery person was surprised. He asked where I got it and he said he has been asked about a spare a lot . Don’t forget to get the pucks . I also got the lock nuts from Tesla. Enjoy . By the way the spare is a little large to carry around in the trunk
@Animalwon4 жыл бұрын
I beoieve it is designed to fit in the storage space BELOW the trunk space. This is the traditional storage spsce for spares in older, gasoline powered vehicles.
@GG-vtfalcon174 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to say that it does not fit down there. I bought mine directly from modern spare and when I did I asked if it would fit in the model y drunk or the trunk and they informed me that it would not. It is the same size as the regular tire with a lot less width. It is also heavy and I suggest that you do not expect the handles on the included cover to support the weight.

*_NO, I don't!_* You must have many flat tires. I'm driving 20k plus miles a year and only needed a spare one time in 10 years. Most of the time the tire is just low and can be inflated with a small compressor that runs of the 12V outlet in the center console and then you drive the car to a tire shop. There are also "slime" options and/or easy to install plugs for quick repair on the road.

Serious Question: Once the car is sitting low with a flat tyre - can you still fit the jack underneath? Also, scissor jacks, while compact, are a pretty hard wind from the very low position with a 2 ton car on top of them, so not for those with a weak heart. Personally, I'm opting for a tyre plug kit and a pump... smaller and lighter for carrying.
@Animalwon4 жыл бұрын
The scissor jack being a hard wind is typical even back in gasoline powered car days. Instead of a socket wrench, i recommend carrying an electric impact wrench for the oft chance you have to use the scissor jack. The jmpact wrench will make winding the jack SUPER EASY!
@evdave5283 жыл бұрын
Good question, the scissor Jace is very low when collapsed. It should fit. Tire plug is great too if it’s a nail or screw. Need a pump also.

Line the spoke up with the lug nut. Could you clarify that?
@LightSpirit244 жыл бұрын
He means to have one of the wheel spokes aligned with any one of the lug studs on the car. Imagine a straight line that aligns with the spoke and the center on the wheel. Position the the wheel so that imaginary line also intersects a lug stud as you put the wheel on the car. This will ensure that the lugs go into the correct holes on the wheel.
@evdave5283 жыл бұрын
The hole in the wheel aligns with the lug bolt, use it for a visual cue to put the wheel on

About to leave for a month's road trip to Bozeman MT from DC and back. I see the value of a spare and will get one. How about charging adapters. Are there plenty of Level 3 charging opportunities along the way. Will be using the app: "A Better Route Planner" among other things. What do you think???
@evdave5283 жыл бұрын
Moe, not sure what your driving but if it’s a Tesla charging is an non issue with plenty of superchargers along the way. If your driving a CCS fast chargers capable you might have some issues I’m Wyoming and north. Keep your mobile connector in the car in case you need juice from a Level 2 chargers. If it’s a Tesla it has aJ1772 adaptor you will need for level 2
@TheMoegig3 жыл бұрын
@@evdave528 I 'm sorry for not saying. It's a new 2021 model 3 awd that was just delivered 4 weeks ago. Only using Level 1 charging that came with the car at home. Discovered I don't need anything more than a regular outlet in the garage. Will, of course, bring the mobile connector with me and the adapter for non-Tesla level 2 charging stations. Maybe don't need to buy the Level 2 adapter to plug into someone's dryer.
@evdave5283 жыл бұрын
Moe thanks for the update, enjoy your trip. Setup and use the internal navigation, you can trust it to give you driving directions and where to charge at superchargers. If you are about to be charged enough to leave the supercharger it gives you an arrival percentage. If your driving into a strong wind let it charge another 10% as the Nav does not factor in wind yet. Enjoy your trip

The www.modernspare.com wheel kit shown is too big to fit in the lower storage area of the M3 trunk. The kit is 27" in Dia, and 6.5" thick. It takes up quite a bit of space, from the back seat to just over the forward edge of the lower storage space. I bought mine in June 2019. I frequently take mine out when I know I'll only be driving in town/city. However on trips, I throw it in the trunk. Not all the roads/places I visit have cell phone coverage, Joshua Tree National Park for example. For me it was cheaper to buy directly from www.modernspare.com. In the last 20 years, I've had two cases where road debris on the freeway went through the sidewall (one was 2 inch long gash), and fix-a-flat can't help. Hope I never need the spare, but I've got one!
@GG-vtfalcon174 жыл бұрын
I also got mine from modern spare. I asked ahead of time if it would fit in the trunk or fronk of the model and they advised me that it would not. I bought it also and put it in the car only when I know I’m going on a long trip where I may not have access to Tesla road side service. It does take up quite a bit of trunk space, just so you are aware.

Dave, I have a model y on order. Will the tire fit in the frunk?
@bevmichelphotography4 жыл бұрын
Have to get this. I have same P3D in blue with t Sportline wheels. After two flats and one bent wheel I am disgusted with Michelin as3 tires. Last flat was a less than week old tire and a very shallow pothole. It blew a hole in the sidewall. 2st flat was a pothole on an extremely busy road with hardly a shoulder. Waited 3.5 hrs for a Tesla tow.
@domg73594 жыл бұрын
A lot of it is the low sidewall. The wheels look nice but ride is much rougher and tire life reduced.
@evdave5283 жыл бұрын
May I suggest you buy a18-19” with a tire with more side wall like 40-50 to give you more give at the tire. Check with Drew at Marian Wheels he might suggest a good combo of wheel/tire for you
