drove my moms new hyundai with an "automatic" transmission after only ever driving manual cars. wanted to floor it in 3rd and instantly the car rocks forward and slows. I thought something broke before(after like a second) the engine suddenly howled(squealed really), because the fucking thing downshifted into second AT FUCKING 50km/h. So I think "okay let me put into manual mode." so I get going and go up to third, floor it and it FUCKING DOWNSHIFTED again!!! there really are stark differences in cars. In my moms brandnew shitbox you can't even connect a phone without the car being completely off and noooooo, start-stop with the engine turned off at a red light doesn't work either.

Max nearly crashing the Caterham reminded me of when I nearly crashed my mum’s car. We were on a private estate with a long, wide and bendy road. Cars very, very rarely drove on it, so my mum let me get some driving experience. She told me to put my foot on the brake as soon as I started doing something wrong. She explains which peddle does what and how to change gear. I put the car into reverse, and put my foot down. I was coming close to a pick-up, but rather than stop like I wanted to I pushed down some more. My mum pulled the handbrake as soon as the car moved faster and I missed smashing into it by a few inches. Still got to drive it up the road, though.
