Why do people keep hating on these cars? You have to remember that these cars were pretty good when they were first designed and produced, often with equal or improved specs compared with their Western counterparts. If you bought yourself a Trabant in 1965, it was a compact but reliable car, perfectly capable of long journeys and easy to repair by the roadside should anything go wrong. Personally I think that the whole idea of using recycled fabrics for the production of body panels is a brilliant idea, and it sums up how innovative the engineers were at the time when it came to reducing weight and cost while maintaining a durable end product. It seems strange that such materials are not widely used again in modern vehicles, given how Duroplast has excellent properties and is cheap to produce, not to mention how environmentally friendly it is when you consider the fact that all the materials which go into it are waste. We often like to dismiss the past and simply assume that things are better now and that past ideas are void, but I think that we have a lot to learn from our predecessors. The Velorex (also known locally as Hadraplán) was the product of a factory which had produced canvas tents and aeroplane parts during the war, so afterwards they diversified into the automotive industry. While the resulting vehicle may look like a bit of a joke, it wasn't entirely terrible, and being aimed at people who only wanted to get from A - B, it was ideal as a very basic "starting out" sort of car. Its straightforward construction made it very easy to repair. Many of them proved to be extremely durable and reliable, provided the canvas was waxed occasionally and the car wasn't stored outside. Again, the point was that a person shouldn't need a car to do anything special other than to move them around. This made even more sense when you look at how most Soviet developments tended to make full use of public transport such as buses and trains; in short a person shouldn't need to rely on a car in order to get about. These networks did begin to fall apart towards the end of the regime, but during its breif heydey in the 50s and early 60s, they were extremely efficient and dependable. In a way, the same can be applied to the cars - They were great to start with, but lack of materials, funding and government support meant that their success was short lived. I think that had the engineers had more support from the governments, or maybe even competition from other companies giving them a reason to implement changes, the cars would have been less outdated; but then of course it couldn't be communism... To be fair some changes were made over the years, the Trabant engineers produced extremely detailed plans for total upgrades to the car, but by the time they were finally able to implement these revisions the company was on its knees as people had started to buy western vehicles. While I do agree with a few of the things said in this video, with all due respect some of it was purely hate, based on a complete lack of knowledge regarding the subject. Does he have experience driving these cars? I doubt it. Does he personally know anybody who had to wait years to receive the car they had ordered? Almost certainly not. If he did and was less ignorant of times gone by, he might have a slightly less dismissive opinion. I think it is very sad that people think they should simply "jump on the bandwagon" of producing videos about "The worst cars ever made" (simply in order to improve their revenues) when they only have experience of driving modern, computerised vehicles where every passenger's concern is attended to and all the manoeuvres are carefully watched over by a silicon chip. Sometimes simplicity is better for all of us...

Chop shops are concentrating on vans, trucks especially trucks with special additions such as hydraulic lift beds, for some reason there is not tha same attention given to vans, trucks as cars.

The physical aspect of driving cannot be underestimated...the cornering speeds are so high that after a few laps you can barely hold your head up. A 45-minute timed race is absolutely exhausting...and I was running 5 miles a day at the time) The harder you drive the better the tires stick. Totally exhilarating.

For much of the year, in Canada, you’ll find varying surfaces of snow or bare pavement on a road. Brake too hard, and you will catch on the bare pavement, but slide on the snow - and end up losing control. ABS can compensate much much better than a human. Also, how many drivers are racers?? You assume a skill level waaaaayy beyond what most drivers possess, which makes your test ridiculous.

I would never want a 3-cylinder motor car. 3 cylinder Motors vibrate inherently and I've read comments from people that own GR's and they say that they do vibrate and cause rattles. And that things got to rev high to have that kind of performance.

Trabant was the tie fighter of the road two stroke engine, fueltank under the hood (gravity feed) manual fuel tap open close and reserve and it was reliable just put oil in the fuel and mix it! And it was easy to maintain with some simple tools and a good manual book.

I seriously can't understand even to this day why Chris Bangle's designs were criticized. They were truly full of character and charisma instead of trying to be. Genuinely timeless and still futuristic even today. The 6 and 7 were my favorite. I disregard respectfully whomever called them "Bangle butt".

I feel like I could’ve invented this at the age of 12 😂 if you have a powerful enough motor connected to a turbine you wouldn’t need those hot exhaust gases which would eliminate lag and maybe not need as big of an Intercooler because of the heat

4 tires should be underneath the car with they're own suspension with electric motors. The car would feel very light while driving.

. For any industry now, It's mainly all about how to gain more money . Changing the design drastically with the new models people buy, will make the old models owners feel behind, this drives their desire to buy the new models, not to feel left obsolete, This is the companies's strategy to sell more of it's new stuff... To gain more money Haven't you feel many times that certain models are well designed that the new ones aren't that attractive in comparison ?! . Change is a marketing process mainly Then, top world renowned designers take modernity altogether as one bunch as the new ongoing trend . The buildings designs moving toward modern sharp edged buildings no curves or classic front decor any more, so cars has to be in harmony with the modern buildings, clothes, smartphones designs as well Curves and traditional materials are classic old fashion Sharp edges and new synthetic materials are fashion . Also classic stuff needs skilled labour, whereas modern stuff are easily done by machines i.e. cheaper So it's a combination of . new trends to avoid boredom🏚️🏢 . marketing for prophet ability💰 . ease of robo manufacturing for cheapness🦾 .and a challenge to make star trek designs come real 🚀🛸

Here in Norway now pretty much ANY RWD car cost more then that no matter what year or mileage... And Porsches is 35.000 US $ and usually 55.000 and up (extremely few for sale). Prices on Porsches used has skyrocketed the last years all over and same with all RWD cars (FWD cars still goes for pennies).... :(
