tbh it does make me sad because i think that part of pierce "guy that wants to be liked but pushes people away" is another reflection of the real guy. and i really hate to see someone low key emotionally vulnerable become a pariah like that even by their own doing. it makes me glad that joel and him said they always got along on set cause even a sad crotchety old man needs a friend ya know

in interviews Joel seemed aware that as the other kinda straight white guy he was uniquely equipped in a way to be a friend to chevy without it coming at the expense of himself and to be honest, he didn't have to do that. it probably didn't win him any favors with harmon. but i admire him for seeing he was in a position to be kind with this difficult guy and be a friend, and so he did

Donald Glover had said that this is exactly how it was. The script would say something like „Troy says something funny.“ and he would have to improvise.

This puts so much into context about how the cast viewed Chevy. The aura coming off of Donald (best way I could think to say it) screams that he doesn't like Chevy... and it honestly looks like Chevy is completely oblivious to how much they don't like him but are being respectful to his face. It was a really fascinating watch!

I don't even understand why Chevy got upset, outside of maybe he misunderstood something and then either tried to make it look like Donald messed up or earnestly got losr and *thought* Donald was pranking him. I'm leaning toward the latter, because I think it paints a portrait of an arrogant person who is always wrong, and that kinda person is more irritating to be around than the arrogant person who is at least right about what they're arrogant about. #rantover
