@@puff6413 on a guess? The drastic drop in quality in the following seasons without Troy. The emotional linchpin in the group left a vacuum that no one could properly fill. Abed took on a stronger focus as a foil to Jeff, and without Troy to complement him, was written to rely on 4th wall innuendos and a dead end arc of finality. Frankie and Elroy were fine characters in their own right, but definitely didn't charisma or investment of the loss of Troy or Shirley, leading to a mediocre (in my opinion) series finale, just kind of ending on a meh note of bland and relatively recycled sentiment

He was captured by pirates. If you watch season 5, episode 6 (the one after Troy left), at the end of the episode, Professor Hickey is at his house watching TV. If you pause it, you'll see a lower third crawl on his TV that reads, *"LaVar Burton and non-celebrity friend were captured by pirates."* I'd seen that episode at least 10 times and never noticed it until I had to pause to go do something else. When I came back, that's when I saw it and cracked up.
