I was lightly training as an amateur at L.A. Boxing H Bch when John the Machine Lober was training Tito. I remember seeing him start out before Collin trained him and thought, He will put a Dent in the MMA world. About 1997, make fun of him all you want, bottom line is he applied himself and went far.

I don’t think modern fans realize how big he was. Him and Chuck are literally the reason I knew about UFC. No doubt he put a lot of eyes onto the sport, not just me, at a time when it was just nowhere near the level of popularity it has today. He is an all time legend without a doubt.

Tito’s prime consisted of beating MWs, having Chuck Liddell beat up the legit LHW threats to him (Babalu, Randleman etc), only accepting a fight with shamrock once Ken was beyond his prime and then getting spanked by Randy and Chuck. He was mid at best, the best LHWs in that era were Chuck, Randy, and the PRIDE fighters (Tito never tested himself in PRIDE unlike Chuck)

In his prime Tito was one of the best fighters in the UFC. Only Randy Couture & Chuck Liddell were able to beat him, and that says a lot. Other than that Tito absolutely destroyed any other fighter in devastating way. Always looked forward to seeing Tito fight. If he took things to the ground, that was it game over. Always a shame that he, like many others, didn't know when to hang up the gloves and save damaging a legacy.. For me, it makes no difference, HBB Tito is the one I'll always remember.
