Basically: Most western music is written in 4/4 sometimes 3/4. The upper number is beats per measure. The lower number is the note value that constitutes a beat. You really don't need to know what that means beyond the fact that most western music has four beats in a bar, also known as a measure. Tool however, prefers to write your music in complex time signatures. Like 7/8, or 5 / 8. It makes their music almost as if it is spilling over itself, it is more difficult to pull off, and quite impressive. That is why fans of tool foam at the mouth over the time signatures

Honestly I wasn't expecting them to put out such an amazing album, after 13 fucking years, with all this hype and expectations from fans. But man, did they deliver it! objectively, TOOL is really good music though. No matter what anyone says, those guys know how to play their instruments WELL. Contrast, a band like Korn was just mediocre talent having a good time making money off gullible youth.. Very few bands from the late 90s and 00s have made it today, still making GOOD albums. Heres a few: QOTSA, Deftones, Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie and John 5, Chevelle.

@Gravel Pit 7empest is overrated. The intro is solid and theres some cool licks by Adam in there but altogether it's nothing to write home about and definitely not worth 15 minutes. Invincible and Pneuma are the best songs on that album by a long shot

I don't think I have laughed so hard about a video....well...maybe ever. Loved it!! I am a huge TOOL fan. I have every album and have been to every concert to support those albums so far. I even saw Maynard at Lalapalooza back in the day when Lalapalooza was what it should be: Loud music, Alcohol, pot, shrooms, and mayhem. Damn I miss the 90's!

I saw them the first time at Ozzfest in 98, DeerCreek Music Center near Indianapolis. While TooL were onstage, the entire lawn area of the venue turned into a massive moshpit...people ripped the sod up by the roots and were hurling huge strips of grass and dirt through the air. Several fires were started (and danced around)...it was absolute pandemonium. I got hit in the back twice with big chunks of sod, and I was 4 rows in under the pavilion. Good times. 😆

What confuses me is how focused in most Tool fans are. I am in love with Maynard and his work. He is by far my favorite artist, but I also don't let him overshadow the skills of ones playing the instruments because it is damn near hypnotizing. What I don't understand though is why don't people talk about his other two bands much? Specifically, Perfect Circle... their newest album is fucking amazing. The message it conveys is so damn controversial and contemporary (I love it). People only seem to talk about the Fibonacci sequence when there is so much more of his work to be discussed. Yes, Lateralus is amazing, but why aren't we talking about Wings for Marie? What about The Grudge? (That one is a little insane) So Long and Thanks for All the Fish is another amazing song.

Well said and I am guilty of saying Tool as a generalization uber alles over all 3 bands and thats pathetic of me but it is Maynard's voice and lyrics that draws me in first; but fuck yeah the percussion, guitar and bass send it. Like I would not feel the little disruptions and feel my heart race without the instruments.
