Incredible performance by Cleary. Mid way through the second half he knew he wasn't having the impact he should, and just switched it on - that's what champion players do. However, to take the game by the horns like he did in that last 10 - pure greatness. Well done young lad.

Nathan Cleary is nearing rugby league immortality. Four Grand Final appearances. 3 Minor Premierships and 3 Premierships. Two Clive Churchill medals. World Cup winner. He's already won a State of Origin series but has never truly dominated an Origin series and that's his last frontier to become a true elite. All the great halves dominated an Origin series and that is Cleary's last big challenge. At 25 years old he's still got plenty of time to achieve that accolade and I believe he will eventually dominate an Origin series and cement his status as one of the greatest players of all time.

Not only is it the out and out leadership to single handedly grab a team by the scruff and go, it’s everything he does to get there, 40-20s, stepping in to touch to take it on the full etc. The kid does it all with such a composed head, at the highest level and at the most critical moments. And BTW ... well done on an IQ play by Sorensen during Cleary's own try. He was in the Brisbane line having just played the ball and saw that Cleary had space to run when he got the ball. Sorensen immediately bolted out of the way so he wouldn't get caught in an obstruction. That's heads up play in a Grand Final. Hell, its heads up play in any game, especially in the NRL where the bunker calling obstruction has killed many tries, even when the obstructed player clearly wouldn't get near anyone with the ball.
@asimpleuser Жыл бұрын
Actually he bolted out so that he can provide Cleary a passing option. He was clearly looking at Cleary and not the Bronco's defence. But the result is the same. Good pickup.

Loads of better individual games - as Cleary said himself, his first 60 minutes were nothing to write home about. He missed tackles that led to tries and his attacking game was pedestrian, as reflected by the fact Penrith's 8 points were donations from Brisbane. But his last 20 minutes were almost unparalleled in their quality. He makes a break and a fabulous pass for a try, gains territory with a brilliant 40-20 then gives the last pass for the next try, which he converts from the sideline, snatches more territory with a genius level catch of a line drop out, makes a brilliant flick to keep the ball alive that leads to another line drop out the puts the icing on the cake by beating 4 defenders on his own to score the game winning try under the posts! Oh, and his last high kick is carefully measured so it's not too deep that would have allowed Brisbane some broken field play. People don't play that well in their fantasies!

When I look back at that final try from Cleary, in reality, the Broncos defensive line had a brain explosion. Broncos had the Panthers overlapped 5 to 3 and that's not even mentioning Walsh who was not behind the defensive line. Yes Adam Reynolds missed his tackle but Billy Walters and Jordan Riki should have kept their line of defence and it would have been good as gold. Big blunder that should have never happened but I guess that's what fatigue and pressure does.

@tigerminkus Him grounding it is the reason that he cannot be forced back. The rules state when you go to ground voluntarily and surrender you cannot be pushed back or moved from that spot. Walsh goes to ground so he has effectively surrendered the tackle. This means as soon as he is touched the tackle is complete.This is a penalty every day of the week. Yes we all know Cleary had a big day but the best help Penrith had was Reynolds ridiculous drop outs and the referees blind eye to Cobbo being taken out without the ball two metres from the line.
