Tbh this is not pushing the boundaries. This is just being a bad sportsman. The player pulled back in order to not hurt the opponent. If he didnt it is a straight red. But he did and hence that is not even a foul. This just leads to opponents trying to injur you because they know you will fall and act to force the yellow card and than they might as well try to hurt you. Pushing boundaries is ok, but this is something else.

@@japvsj5131 I see that you never played professional football or competitive. Its the thing you do, he didn't know that he will pull out he was prepared for the foul and when it didn't happen he automatically acted as if did. Its not something that you can really control.
@japvsj51312 жыл бұрын
@@plava_k3303 I do not know where you played. But in Europe that is never a yellow and not even a foul. Specially because Matts team keeps position. So even if it is a foul you would not stop the game as referee. I agree that he was going to dive before anything happened. For me, Diving is not pushing the boudnaries. It is illegal and bad sportsmanship on top of that. Specially to old collegues. It worked out this time, but builidng a reputation can be dangerous as referees in the future will know what kind of player he is...

Confidence is key you won't lose the ball for one because of footwork you will evade challenges . when you are with the ball or closest to it don't rush ,you are in advantage just be aware of surroundings(awareness).. 7:18 i think it was a good idea to send a through ball to the wing but if noticed that space was too crowded you had all your strikers covered, from this point of view there was a hugeeee space in the middle of the field which could've been used to switch the point of attack and surprise the opponent, they were over shifting their position and left a huge amount of space for your left back and left wing/left mid to use. I play as a right back as well so i understand how difficult some decisions are when the speed of play is quick, I like when my midfielders ask for the ball or show some movement in the middle, such as breaking the lines of the opponents formation which creates space and more depth in the play, because it can be used to switch the ball and get on a counter more efficiently. regardless, it was a great ball into space, it's unfortunate that your striker didn't get the ball. Good ball!

Good video Matt, I have always liked your way of playing, going 100% for every situation. That is why i cannot really understand this red card situation, that is not football for me. I understand what you mean with your point about this situation but this is too much, there was no absolutely no contact. Myself am playing on high level and i understand that these things can win you games but for me this is just a bad look for the sport. I understand these situations happens fast and that you actually thought his going to hit you, and once you decide to "dive" you just go for it... I don't want to be negative just wanted to give my opinion about these kind of situations But anyways im happy for you for such an great first game, especially defensively pretty much flawless game if you count out the one long ball that the wind caught. I hope you have a great season both you and the team and that you stay fit.

Hey, people criticising your embellishments never played football with a referee. If you don’t embellish the ref doesn’t call the foul, and you’re there on the ground like a fool as the game goes on. It may even get to a point where you get hurt. The problem that leads to embellishment is poor refereeing, refs not protecting people who want to play football from people that want to play rugby.

@antoniosalameh50942 жыл бұрын
Why do you have to get goal-side at 9:44? Not saying it's wrong, but just trying to understand that versus just staying where you were because if he played him through, you would have still been able to force him down the line. You do the same at 9:54 and it just looks like if he plays a good through ball around you .. the attacker could put his body in front of yours and draw a foul or be on goal.
@bestreviewouthere64382 жыл бұрын
He explained why he had to get goal side there. It’s is the right thing to do because it’s less dangerous to press a players that see a side of the goal rather than the full goal. If you watch that clip, just imagine Sheldon stayed wide and that guy got the through ball, now picture how he’d run and where he’ll put his body(it’s way more dangerous)

Sometimes when you try to make a pass and fail you insist in the same guy you were trying to play to, that makes you predictable over time in the game for the opponent. But good game overall and I'm no Pro,. far from that so don't take my thought to serious haha but as a RB I try to compare my vision with yours. Defensively you were on point! Congrats!

One question here. I saw you went up the half line a lot. When I used to play left back, I’d always been told by coach and other defenders (my team was shitty tho) to always stay on the same line with them and never cross with midfielders. Can you plz explain the reason behind your move? Thanks a lot! 😊
@CoachOlali2 жыл бұрын
I'm not Matt obvioiusly but at the end of the day tactics vary from team to team and it depends on what our coach says. Everybody has different philosphies in the game and you can easily see in the teams that are consistently successful their coaches tend to be offensive minded. There are always exceptions. On Liverpool and Manchester with Klopp and Guardiola, their outside backs go forward a lot and they win a lot. But also keep in mind that they have top outside backs.

I watched this game as well as the Atlanta 2 game. I am a Matt Sheldon fan, but it is going to be hard to watch Charleston this year. Their direct style just looks sloppy. They have a pass completion rate of under 70%. I watched San Diego vs Phoenix and it was such a better game.

I agree with you. It isn't very fun to watch to see them just boot it up and go press. But I'm sure Matt will recover from the red card and adapt to the new team.

What you call "embellishment"--and everyone else calls diving--is ruining soccer for everyone; however, you should hold yourself to a higher standard since you are on KZbin professing to be a role model and mentor for younger players.
@mahadduale59582 жыл бұрын
no every pro does this and it's apart of the game. it's showing the referee there was indeed a foul in an exaggerated way. now if there was no foul it would be a different story
@CoachOlali2 жыл бұрын
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you because as a player I do not fake. However, I have played for coaches in Germany and many times, I have had an opportunity to dive and get a penalty but I did not go down. And after the game or half, the players were emphasizing that I should go down because at the end of the day the job is to win the game. This is very encouraged among a number of coaches I would presume as many coaches and even players are ok with it and even encourage it in tough games when points are on the line. I wouldn't necessarily say I hold myself to a higher standard but I was just raised to never fall down

I'm not saying you're wrong but when your coach and you as a player are being paid and that is your livelohood then you will do what it takes to win. There is pressure from coaches and players alike to win at all costs and diving is a part of it. At this level, nobody cares about being the nicest team, winning is all that matters. In the last World Cup, if i'm not mistaken, Japan won the fair play award but who cares, they lost. Italy won the last Euros and France won the last World Cup, neither of who are known for their fair play but they will go down in history. Japan will not
