You have to aggressively proxy the hell out of Sisters as well as find deals through third party and second hand. I have around 2300 points of Sisters at ~$670. So around 3.4 point per dollar. Good rule of thumb is if you can to around the 3.5-4 points per dollar mark you're in a good spot for any faction. For context a good chunk of it are competitive units too. Castigator, Vahlgons, Celestine, Penitent engines, etc. Even got an ally Warglaive and a flamer turret to turn the CP rhino into an older style Immolator. It takes a lot of effort and some creativity to beat the James Workshop tax but it's possible.

It works a little worse these days, since Kabalite Warrior squads now use ALL their special and heavy weapons as free wargear. Although if you've got some Wyches kits lying around, they tend to have way more spare melee weapons (and had all of them folded into generic melee options). So with those and the extra Wych heads, you might turn them into more Wyches.

For Chaos Marines, might I suggest that that's where you want to use the Age of Darkness box? 40 Marines, 10 Termies, 2 Lord/Sorcerors (The Praetors), and a Contemptor which maybe you could run as a Hellbrute? That box + a couple of those special weapon sprues and you can spam Legionaires or Chosen, and Termies are a huge amount of points too. The Heresy aesthetic even kinda works better for them than it does loyalists imo.

For the Grey Knights 2000points, I once came up with 2x Combat Patrol boxes (make one Terminator squad and one Paladin squad, two regular Dreadknights) 1x Interceptor Squad 1x Brother-Captain 328 EUR / 353 USD This leaves one Librarian left over, but with all the other models (if I counted correctly) this adds up to 34 models and 2000 points when you top the list off with the Inescapable Wrath enhancement.

On the Chaos Knights, definitely do not run 6 Stalkers. Assuming you're still going to take the nurglings, you can do 2 stalkers, 1 with Aura of Terror and the other with Lord of Dread/Traitor's Mark, and either 2 Hunstmen with 2 Karnivores, or just 4 Karnivores. Both of the latter excel in removing vehicles, but the Karnivores will do so a bit more consistently, at the cost of needing to get into melee. It raises the cost a bit, but probably worth swapping some things around and fitting in at least a second set of Nurglings for secondaries.

Guard All krieg is the most expensive. AT $3930. 3 platoon command squads with a heavy weapon each. $110 each 6 infantry squad with 2 heavy weapons each (krieg resin models obviously) $256 each. 3 cyclops demolition vehicles at $29 each. (Laughs in 25pts for a secondary scorer) 3 deathrider squadrons at $310 each. 3 heavy weapons teams at $132 each 1 medusa carriage batter with required crew $199 3 heavy quad launchers (thud gun) with required crew $79 each 3 heavy mortars with required crew $75 each 1985 points = $3930. Would be viable as hell too. Tons of wounds, objective control, 24 lascannons and lots of artillery.

As soneone who plays Grey Knights, buying three C.P.'s is almost exactly what i did years ago. Originally bought a Nem. DK and termy squad but then i bought two C.P.'s and a couple characters. You could also probably use some of the monopose Battle Sisters models to kitbash your own Triumph of Saint Catherine. Maybe with some extra bits from create your own portable relic shrine. (There's probably something to be said for kitbashing more Archo-Flagallents using Crypt Horror models from Age of Sigmar. If you can get some good bits or Green Stuff to make them more like techno-thralls. They're an old kit, so they sell for cheap.).

No no, you don't turn Novitiates into proxies. You use the extra Novitiates arm pieces to turn Battle Sisters into the character proxies, and you build the Novitiates as melee troops to go with a Palatine. Use the rest of the Battle Sisters to make the different special/heavy weapon options for other squads.

Tyranids can be easily stretched. Hive Tyrant boxes only need an extra torso to make 2 tyrants (1 with wings, 1 without) out of 1 box, the leviathan box halves can be with a bit of patience and digging gotten for cheap on ebay (as well as the rest) This was at least my approach to building up my army Edit: Also if one is interested in the Von Ryan's Leapers...simply be patient until Combat Patrol starts its run in your country....6,99 for them is a steal

Crisis Commanders are made of the same box as regular Crisis suits so you could go a little cheaper by making one of the boxes into 3 commanders ;)

IMO Orks should have had a "stompa" and a "No stompa" list like you did with space marines and leviathan. After all, the cheapest possible army shouldn't be an absolute shopping list but it can serve as a great guideline for buying an army. Unless that guideline has an obnoxious kit that's overcosted to oblivion lol

Votann was surprising as I've got like 3k of Votann and paid nowhere near that - although it's mainly because they had quite a few good value limited boxed sets and I sold off a bunch of excess stuff from those in order to get free units - for instance when the Combat Patrols came out I bought two, flogged nearly everything and got 10 Beserks for nothing. Also got two of the Christmas boxes which were super good value and got rid of the excess stuff from those for very cheap stuff too. The worst value thing in Votann I think is the Thunderkyn as they're really not very big models and you only get 3 of them in a full-price box, plus I don't think they've ever featured in any kind of value box.

Just as an experiment I thought I'd see how 30k compares - 2x Age of Darkness boxes equates to a 2,800pt army before adding ANY additional wargear, and counting 3 of the 4 Praetor models and base model consuls. So it's interesting how 30k is considered the "expensive" system when you can actually get a full 3,000pt army for £370 RRP. Although admittedly you'd probably have more fun adding the Astartes Battle Group or some of the more flavourful units in place of a second AoD box.

Genestealer Cults are also surprisingly cheap if you make good use of the brood brothers, throwing in some tanks definitely helps boosting the points while giving versatility not to mention how creative you can get with them. If we consider the Hachette Premium Magazine then you can get a Genestealer Combat Patrol, a Patriarch, Atalan Jackels, a Rogal Dorn tank, an Astra Militarum Combat Patrol to convert (around 1k points alone) and you can maybe sell or trade away the factions you don't like for more genestealers. This perhaps makes the Genestealers the cheapest faction overall with some great variety. Easily the biggest winners of the new Hachette release by far.

The Tormentbringer suggestion is incorrect. You would need two kits in order to make the Tormentbringer on Exalted Chariot. If you wanted to bend the "counts as" rule a bit... What you would actually do with a single Slaanesh Chariot kit is to either make a Hellflayer and then replace the main rider to use them on foot as a Herald/Tranceweaver/Viceleader (which will put you at 165 points) or make a Seeker Chariot and use the remaining two Daemonettes as Heralds (185 points). Additionally the Burning Chariot + Changecaster can additionally take two of the included Blue Horrors and kitbash them as Blue Scribes (use the extra bits you're not using, including the extra Disc and the decorative bits like the books) to bump the points value of the kit from 175 to 250.

Shh! Don't tell Leman Russ, but thousand sons can be a really affordable and functional army! If you get the solid discount, you can do thusly! magnus 2X rubric pack 2x scarab termies 1X pack of exalted sorcerers, of which can make use of scrap parts to kitbash aspiring sorcerers and split the rubrics into squads of 5 arhiman on disc sorcerer in termie arrmor then one of whatever you want, but if you use the best enhancements and grab a rhino, this list gives you an even 2000 This army gives you 20 cabal points and plenty of threat, in addition you can then relax and grab whatever you want later. This all costs you about 512 dollars before tax, and can easily get you a 1000 point army to try it out. Take that Russ~ you smelly wolfey bastard!

When army building on a budget I also consider Allied Units to avoid over spamming some units. Warglaives/ war dogs are very useful to help ALL imperium/ chaos to reach 2.000 points and not bad in game either. For the imperium armies assassins are also great . Genestealers are good cause their box isn’t that expensive and could be used in two armies.

I would've like to see more realistic armies, e.g. for tyrianids swarmlord + 3 tyrants is a completely useless builds (let alone 2 primes without warriors and 2 psychophages). This is fun for the memes and all but "cheapest useable army (seen in a tournament, even if it did not place well)" or "cheapest army without repetitions", would be much more useful to get the idea of how expensive factions are. For tyranids for example I can come up with: - Leviathan half ~750 points ~100 euros (or 200 if you can't split it) - Christmas batleforce ~750 points ~160 euros - 2 tyrannofexes 380 points ~ 110 euros - 2 neurolictors 160 points - 65 euros That's roughly 2000 points for 535 (!) euros which is almost cheaper than what you listed and not a meme army but one that you can use in casual games :) If you want to go a bit more competitive, you can drop the tyranid prime and psychophage from the leviathan set and add in a broodlord for the genestealers and an exocrine/maleceptor/haruspex (or proxy them).

The death guard one has an invalid load out for the blightlords. You get 3 of the flamers (plague spewer) but you're only allowed 2. Those models don't have options so you would have to play "counts as" with one of the spewers.

Space Marines can be a bit cheaper if you go allmost all terminators and use the heresy kits. Get four boxes for 90$ each, Guilliman and Inceptors for 70$ and 60$, exactly 2000 points for 490$.

Some of these "Cheapest Armies" are sadly just cheap and wont work in most played games. I collect Daemons and Grey Knights, and the GK especially is just lazy. 3 x Patrol (using the interceptors) is just not viable. Nemisis Dread Knights Grand Master are decent now, but many use a single one with Sigil of Exigence enhancement while the rest are normal ones for their shoot and charge on advance and fallback. The Daemon army is just cheap clutter which cant do anything against any army with ranged attacks. The 3 x 10 flesh hounds are just too hard to maneuver around on the table. The bloodletters are nothing but chaff and the changecaster is a leader without a squad. These might be cheap, but they are unplayable.

My god... Since Christmas of 2022 i bought... 3500+ points of Space Marines with all GW bases from various sets, upgrades on everything and tons more points of stuff i have no intention of using. 3500+ points of Sisters. 4000+ points of Orks (and not one Beastsnagga type unit lol). Untold amounts of terrain (another box of Nachmund arrived this very morning). And im just waiting on a single Cyclops Demolition vehicle to finish my Krieg army of 2000 points not including the second Dorn and Baneblade... Or the 28 extra FW Krieg i kinda bought for no real reason other than to, so far, cut one in half to man a leman russ turret... Only to then buy the tank commander upgrade lol. I have an addiction. Send help!

The Druhkari vehicles come with about 5 kabalites that can be converted to foot soldiers.

Similarly, the GSC truck comes with 3 bodies that can easily be converted into characters. 4 if you're creative. Becomes like a 900 point box

Knights are pretty far down on the list because there isn't really an option for a "really dumb but less expensive" list for them. On a list for useable armies they would rank a lot better since everyone else would be much more expensive.

The cheapest army he comes up with, which consists of spamming the Combat Patrol, is still one of the most expensive on the list. There is no cheap way. But this may help... -Buy 2 copies of the Combat Patrol. One of the Canonesses will be used as a Palatine so make her look different. -Buy a box of Battle Sisters, Seraphim, and Retributors. These will be used to provide weapon options the CP box doesn't give you. -For the Seraphim box, you build two with dual handflamer, two with dual inferno pistol. You use parts (helmet, wings, sword) from Seraphim box together with CP Seraphim bodies to create 5 Zephyrim. -Buy a Novitiates box, use arm parts together with spare Battle Sister bodies to create a Hospitallier, Dialogus and Dogmata. Build Novitiates for close combat, they go with a Palatine in a Rhino. -Consider buying a Knight Armigers box. Armiger Warglaives are worth roughly double the points per dollar spent vs Sisters tanks, and they provide some much needed anti-tank guns.

confused, CSM warpforged pack 2x would onlt be 2x venom crawler and 2x2 oblits. is it still the cheapest Auspex if you account for buying 3 packs not 2?

The 3 is a typo. The list only uses 2 packs.
