This video looks at EVERY WCW PPV of 1997. The WCW vs nWo war was at the forefront of WCW broadcasts in 1997 but there were a lot of other interesting storylines going on - WCW Nitro was the hottest wrestling show in the United States as the company defeated WWF Raw is War in the weekly television ratings; this video looks at how succesful WCW was when fans paid to see their favourite wrestlers on pay per view.
PPVs covered (in order):
00:00 - Souled Out 1997
27:35 - SuperBrawl 7
1:02:12 - Uncensored 1997
1:39:55 - Spring Stampede 1997
2:13:41 - Slamboree 1997
2:48:12 -The Great American Bash 1997
3:20:00 - Bash at the Beach 1997
3:52:09 - Road Wild 1997
4:21:42 - Fall Brawl 1997
4:47:18 - Halloween Havoc 1997
5:27:06 - World War 3 1997
5:52:39 - Starrcade 1997

Potential hot take: Looking back, the nWo jumped the shark at Souled Out 97. Sting carried WCW through 1997, and Goldberg carried them through 1998. Once they cooled both those guys off, there wasn't anyone left to carry the company.

Thank you for filtering the garbage and giving is the meat and potatoes. I'm going to enjoy indulging in my early adulthood and reliving the best times in life ( as far as I'm concerned that is). So weird to absorb it with the modern mindset of wrestling knowing how we absorbed it at the time. Amazing to think the stuff that went on back then , which would NEVER be able to get done today.

@@peterbaini8752 Bret did headline PPVs for WCW in 99 and 2000. He had a great run in WCW and was treated very well by them. Bret Hart is one of only nine WCW Triple Crown Champions and did it faster than any of the other 7 who still deserve that honor. WCW, a company with Ric Flair, didn't need Hart to give it legitimacy but he had a great run in the company none the less.

As stupid as the "unfast count" was at the time, Bret's actions can easily be retconned 20 years later as general payback for Hogan's meddling about in determining finishes and so fourth. Just historically revise it as a worked shoot, and it's an easier pill to swallow.

Souled Out could have been better if it was booked in a cooler city like Vegas, have the NWO come in with a party bus and models. Keep the Patrick shenanigans for the first 2 matches but find a storyline way for someone in WCW to basically enforce Patrick to be more fair as the night goes along (makes the screwy finish to the main event mean more). Finally, with the WCW guys in attendance, end the night with a giant WCW vs NWO riot

Giving the nWo their own shows and PPVs and experimenting with a 'brand split' is actually very similar to what WWE ended up doing with Raw and Smackdown.

Something kind of funny is that Bret Hart said he would never allow what happened at survivor series 97 to happen again but at Starrcade 97 he declared Larry Zybisco the winner over Eric Bischoff just because he wanted to and in the man event it didn't look like Hogan submitted to the Scorpion death lock

The reason, IMO, that WCW/NWO looked so stupid for this entire year, fans pay big money to watch Hulk, Nash, Hall, Sting, etc, have wrestling matches... 1 on 1 "matches..." Every damn match had a run-in, or a cheat, or some kind of interference. If "I" pay $50+ to see Hogan vs Nash, and I get a "finger poke of doom," I'm gonna be f*cking furious.

1:08:13 it’s a fkn shame the WWE didn’t do more with and take advantage of the talents of Dean in the ring when he, Eddie, Benoit, and Perry come over from WCW. I mean he was arguably the best worker out of the bunch Imo maybe other than Eddie, which imo they’re tied for the best, they just kinda work a bit of a different style so it’s not exactly the best comparison ig, but yeah. But anyways, like I said, Dean should’ve been allowed to do way more inside the ring at WWE and should have been able to be just as big of a star as the others were imo. The guy was a great worker and could have a great match with Perry Saturn’s mop if they made him work a match with it lol. I just always wondered why they never gave him a chance at doing more once he come over to the wwe tbh. It’s almost criminal how little they did with Dean tbh. And i feel when they come over they all could’ve been one of, if not the best faction in the WWE had they let them stay as a faction and work matches that way, and they could’ve prolly had all the tag team and other mid card titles and worked their way up to main titles. It’s just an utter shame the way WWE decided to do Dean imo.
