Wrestling Bios Presents - The WCW Career of Hulk Hogan: 1994 - 1996
Hulk Hogan jumping to WCW was one of the most exciting yet unexpected moves in the history of professional wrestling. Hulk Hogan had become a huge name in the world of sports and entertainment during the 80s and early 90s, when people thought of wrestling, they thought of Hulk Hogan. Eric Bischoff and Ted Turner decided to give Hogan one of the most lucrative contracts in wrestling history to get him on the WCW roster. When Hogan made his WCW debut, the company would never be the same again.
Hulk began feuding straight away with Ric Flair, capturing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in his very first match in the company. From here, Hogan would continue working with Flair before main eventing Starrcade 1994, having a match series with Big Van Vader, and competing against various members of the "Dungeon of Doom" Stable. This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios looks over this entire time period in Hogan's Career.
Topics covered in this video include:
00:48 - How unexpected Hogan's jump to WCW was
03:25 - Thunder in Paradise and Bischoff's meetings with Hulk
05:41 - Hulk Hogan's first WCW appearance
10:25 - Hulk Hogan vs Vader in WCW
13:29 - Hulk Hogan vs The Giant at Halloween Havoc 1995
15:33 - The Doomsday Cage match at Uncensored 1996
- Much More!
Remember to check out "Hulk Hogan - nWo Year 1" to continue looking at Hulk's WCW Career: • Hulk Hogan in the nWo ...

Tbh, Hogan's work in WCW > his work in WWF. I know, Vince helped build Hogan into the mega star he was, but then he went on to reinvent himself & literally skyrocketed wrestling to new heights never seen before or since. The NWO was seriously more influential than anything else, propelling wrestling into mainstream popularity for the first time ever. Instead of just "hicks" & "hillbillies," wrestling was now "cool" for everyone. Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Hogan, Macho Man, Luger, Sting, DDP, Goldberg... really changed the landscape forever. WWF had their part in it, but NWO transcended the wrestling business far more.

New arrivals in 1994- through 96: Hulk Hogan, jimmy Hart, Brutus Beefcake, Mean Gene Okerlund, Bobby the Brain Heenan, Sensational Sherri, Randy Macho Man Savage, Typhoon, Earthquake, the Honky-Tonk Man, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, the Nasty Boys, the Big Bossman, Mr. T., Zeus, Haku (Meng), Kamala, the Barbarian, the One-Man Gang..... not to mention the Renegade (Rick Wilson) emulating the Ultimate Warrior and Paul "Big Show" Wight emulating Andre the Giant--- Man, WCW at this time looked like a WWF retread from the late eighties until the early nineties. I think that was what Bischoff was going for before the whole NWO invasion arc.

I was in HS at this point. Playing sports, lifting weights, chasing girls, going to the beach. Wrestling around this point in both WWF/WCW was stale, boring. Both brands had drifted so far apart that when I did catch glimpses of the product I didn't care much for it. I missed a lot of these years due to not having cable where I lived and the before mention HS antics of the mid the 90s. I did go back and watch a lot of the WWF materials via WWE Network and there was some great matches but there was a gap in those matches and one really didn't need to watch live 24/7 in the fear they'd miss something. Sure one would and did but spending all that time back then to watch this then would have been disappointing to say the least.

@@Robert.Deeeee LOL. His Bald spot was a combo of Uralian (As hair doesn't grow on a high Uralian forehead) - with Middle Eastern Human Archetype Breed - (which has the balding on the back of the head) - but the removal of his Rus style 'tash combined with the darkening of his sideburns etc was a good premise for him turning heel.....if you know what I mean. The same premise was used for Atilla - as Atilla used the Roman 'Princess' needing rescue for a premise to invade the Western Roman Provinces...and so-on. History repeating itself in a different form Mate.

I truly dislike this era of Hogan’s career (and it doesn’t stop here) - his utter *refusal* to lose clean cements for me his desire not to advance the business by occasionally putting other talent over, but to advance his own ego and selfish desire for win after win. The point of a baby face is to be beaten down, lose some matches and get their revenge at the ppv- but Hogan never allowed this to happen. The so-called Alliance to End Hulkamania was clearly created to be the dastardly heals for Hogan to slay and it was pathetic. Hogan is nothing but an overrated egomaniac who used his ‘creative control’ along with the word ‘brother’ to turn wcw into his own personal playground. This series of videos is great - take nothing away from Wrestling Bios - I just despise that manipulative petulant politician Hulk Hogan

LMAO, a shitty legdrop as a finisher. He couldn't do a Canadian Destroyer or a 450 splash to save his life, but then again, he drew 100000000000000 times more money than the entire AEW and WWE rosters combined, so he must have done something right.

B) When Hogan debuted in North Carolina several of the Audience Members were paid to pop for Hogan w/ Money & W.C.W. Merch. C.) When Hogan debuted for the second time in Florida once again ppl were paid to Pop for him w/ Money & W.C.W. Merch & were giving Hogan Fans Signs to hold up. B.) Part of Hogan's Signing Deal was to bring in Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Zeus. D.) Hogan had it in his Contract that he only had to Wrestle a certain amount of matches per year

I think it's right to say that WCW tried to do the Hulkamania magic that WWF had before: *Hulk's Red/Yellow superhero persona *Hogan beating every big baddy (much to the pain of WCW) *Old WWF stars and Hogan buddies coming by (much to the pain of WCW) *Mr T having a match at STARRCADE Needless to say, it somewhat worked in the short run, but in the long run... I dunno...

The claim that Hulkamania was growing stale is a false claim. The sheer fact that WCE's ratings, pay-per-view buy rates and attendance were growing shows that Hogan was bringing in more fans to WCW. Yes, the traditional WWE fans were booing Hogan because they still saw him as the face of the competition but, the bottom line is money and Hogan was bringing in more fans and thus more money to the company. The same fans who were booing Hogan inp WCW had always been booing him through the wrestling magazines and so forth as they cheered for their favorite wrestling company over the WWF. That's all it comes down to. The fact that Hogan's very first match was the highest pay-per-view buy rate ever for the company at the time proves how many new fans Hogan brought the WCW. The fact that after just one year Hogan head increased WCW viewership enough that the company could launch their own Monday night program to go head-to-head with a WWF established Monday night program also proved Hogan's popularity. The fact that on the very first head-to-head airing of the two Monday night programs saw Nitro (with Hogan Main Eventing) get higher ratings than Raw again proves that Hogan's popularity was still very strong. Finally, the fact that Nitro and Raw continue to trade ratings victories over the next several months proves that Hogan increased WCW's popularity enough to bring the once distant second company up to equal levels with the once untouchable WWF. None of this would be possible if Hogan was not still the most popular wrestler in the world.
