You missed a sport; Quodpot. It's the most popular sport in Wizarding America. An offshoot of Quidditch, it's played with a ball that can explode if handled too long, and you score by shooting it into large cauldrons.

I'm not sure the quote does a good job conveying the original premise, considering Hagrid says it's like "soccer". In muggle sports - ESPECIALLY in the UK, football is the sport. That doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of other sports, but football is the most important and most popular sport in the world. So if Hagrid says "it's our sport" and uses football as the comparison - it means that Quidditch is the most important sport, not the only sport

There are a few and I think they would have been cool in the stories, or future stories. Quodpot: Just like Quidditch, but this one packs firepower for some reason that came from America. You have the same type of antics, but this time, you place the Quod into the cup in the middle of the field before it exploded. Wizard Chess. Gobstones: Just like marbles, but you just sprayed by horrible smelling liquid. Exploding Snap Broom Racing: A simple standard of racing each other. Duelling, Shuntbump: A ancient game that existed in Devon that played by Children. It is a magical equivalent to jousting as you purposely knock your opponent off the broom with the last person standing being a winner. Mud-Ditch: A weird game where you get 'stuck in a mud' thanks to some charm and you use magical dice to get you out. The trick is, to move and use whichever the body part it lands on. first. Magical version of twister that leaves you dirty. Snitch Snatcher: board game type of thing Flying SeaHorse Fishing, Magical version of fishing Hippogriff Racing, Spot the Snargaluff, Gnome RACING, Dance Elf Championship,: Something that existed since 1926 that happens every year

I knew of the annual broom race of Sweden and as a Swede I was always wondering why they flew from Kopparberg to Arjeplog, why not have the start more south? But when I looked at the map and considered where muggles are living, it actually makes alot of sense to start in Kopparberg. I dunno the % exactly but around 70% of the muggles live at the imaginary line between Stockholm and Karlstad, and then south. Most of the area the race would fly over(not the line marked by the map because that are the muggle route) is actually flying over forrest and forrest and forrest and forrest. It would make sense that most of the swedish wizards live in this big areas where no muggles are living. Could it be because of spells? :O

It occurs to me that Quidditch is a profoundly non-magical sport on the part of the athletes. Yes the equipment itself is magical, but there's nothing stopping a muggle from playing if they have access. Imagine a squib, shunned by their family, becoming a world-class quidditch player. There's a great story to be had there. Edit: Thinking about it, the same could be said of every sport in this video except for Dueling and maybe StitchStock.

I can't believe you didn't mention Quodpot. It has eleven players on broomsticks on each team, and they have to throw a Quaffle which has been charmed to explode down the field and get it into the cauldron at the end. This special Quaffle is called the Quod and the cauldron contains a solution to stop the Quod from exploding. Any player holding the Quod when it explodes is eliminated.

I’ve always thought that there’s a lot that goes on at Hogwarts that we never see or are aware of because Harry is our Narrator. He only cares about quidditch and stopping the latest Voldemort plot. He only notices a couple other students, he’s not involved in any club or student activities because he just doesn’t care (although stopping Voldemort is very important so we can forgive him on that) There are plenty of clubs, school events, career recruitment events, solo lectures that we never see because Harry is oblivious

Growing up, there was a lake we went to and kids used to play a game called Pirate on the lake. They'd use these two person sailboats called Sunfish. One kid sailed the boat and his partner would try and tip over the other kids' boats. Kind of a Shunbump on water. We also had king of the mountain, which was usually played on a jungle jim or monkey bars. One kid is the king who'd be at the top, while the others climbed up to push him/her off. Of course he/she did the same to their attackers.

You missed one. The US has game called Quadpot based on quidditch with an exploding quaffle known as a quad. The game involves only chasers. Two teams attemp to score by putting the ball into a pot of potion that prevents it from exploding. A team which does this gets a point and a new ball is brought out. The game is allegory for American football since it's a game loosely based on quiditch only popular in the US, Canada, and other new world nations.

long distance apparition: assuming apparating takes some kind of effort and scales with the distance traveled, the contestants must apparate as far as they can in a certain direction target apparition: the contestants are standing some distance away from a magically obscured target area. the target area is revealed for just the blink of an eye and the contestants can see a mark where they are supposed to appear in the general target area. when the target area is again obscured the contestants must apparate from memory to the marked spot and their accuracy is rated. obstacle apparition: the contestants are faced with a series of increasingly smaller and contorted arrangements of solid wood spikes and they have to apparate into the middle of them without getting skewered (this one feels especially at home in the wizarding world, with pretty nasty results if the contestants mess up) long reach accio: the contestants are surrounded by a field of identical objects and must accio the furthest one they can extend their magic to (again, assuming there are some limits and skill to what wizards can accio. or do you think i could accio a specific grain of sand from the other side of the world?) long distance expelliarmus: how far can you stand away and still disarm a mannequin?

Having the pieces move on their own and verbally controling your moves is not the only difference in Wizards Chess. It is described in the first book, that you have to convince the pieces, and they try to five you suggestions. Having your chess pieces trust you gives you a huge advantage. Giving the game a lot more dimensionality. Suddenly things like 'Morale' and being a good leader are way mor important. Like they say in the Book 'its more like dorecting troops in an actual war'

Wait wait wait. Do you not know what snap is? That and “fish” or “go fish” were first card games we learnt as kids (I’m Australian). You divvy out the cards to each player, have them in a pile in your hand face down, take turns placing a card in a pile in front of you and if the card on top matches you quickly place your hand on top of it saying “snap”. Whoever’s hand on the pile first gets the pile. The person with most at the end wins. 😊😊

I guess they don't play it in America? It had never occurred to me that Americans don't play snap!

"Shuntbumps" is plainly the best of all of these games. Add a lance and some padding and you've got yourself a real humdinger.

I imagine bullying is much worse in magical schools because you can be magically pants, magical wedgies, and Magical swirly’s. Heck it would be pretty embarrassing to have you clothes disappear randomly.

Steeple Chase was my favorite Track and Field event. Watch out for the water pit! The last thing you need is 2000 m of "Squelch, squelch, squelch" Not a good time. Also, the folks who can clear the steeples like they're hurdles are amazing, and I am just going to stick with my single foot vault over the steeple.

"The only problem is that you'd have to keep on harvesting more and more dragon bladders," have you heard on transfiguration? All you have to do is a take a rock and wave a wand at it.

Speaking of magical sports/games. Lev Grossman's The Magicians have a magical sport called Welters. It's a giant boardgame in an arena where you roll a polyhedral die onto squares. Each square has a specific spell with a different set of circumstances in which you have to account for when casting. I thought that was a pretty cool concept.

Wizards know how to make the safest games ever! Even the Tri-Wizard Cup could be seen as games by these safety standards.

I could see "Dubledore's Army" being a dueling club but it wasn't open to the whole school as only people Harry trusted were invited to join and it only lasted that year as far as we know. I could also see that a reason they would not have that many professional sports is because it might be challenging to have a bunch a mass wizarding sports events in large stadiums/arenas without risking exposure of magic to muggles. I remember with the world cup they used the port key but still that is a lot of people in one place and imagine that x 15 sports.
