I remember as a kid in the 60s and 70s boxing was on broadcast television. The fight was a big deal, like the Superbowl. We all watched, and it was the main topic of conversation the next day. Then HBO bought boxing and made it all pay-per-view. In the last 40 years I can count on one hand the number of matches I've seen, and they were all reruns. I have never heard of most of the champions since then. Now the NFL is going in the same direction with all these streaming services. Guess I'll start following curling or fencing.

Marciano was small compared to later fighters. But the guy ruined a lot of fighters with his power, so many are described as "never the same" after fighting him. Classy guy too. I think if he fought in a later era his record wouldn't be perfect due to some of his injuries in the ring would have had the ref stop it.
