I've had my DTX8K with TCS pads for about a month now. Absolutely no regrets. The pads feel amazing and the sounds in the DTX Pro module are fantastic. It did take some time to dial in the rack so that everything was solid, but with that done I have zero complaints.

I’m slightly envious of your new kit I must confess. How are you liking the sounds so far??? Does Yamaha have the iOS editing App launched yet???? Not having to menu dive on a tiny led screen and using full QWERTY keyboard to name my kits is something I want in worst way for my Roland modules and multipads same for my Alesis strike module/multipad.

@@mattryan6886 The sounds are really high quality. There aren't a million kits (40 total I think), but I only use a few workhorse kits and have made slight tweaks to them. I don't think there's an app to control the module, so naming is a bit of a pain but personally it's not something I do often.

@@tebling I really like the controls knobs brought over from EAD-10 and the new analog fader system with ability to make your own custom user fader settings is bomb 💣 like the strike module the ability to import multi layer samples from VST’s like SD3 and SSD5 is great. I realize the catch is there is not much storage for those, similar to limitations w/ strike a 200 mb kit limit is a bummer but a step in the right direction. I talked to Simon Edgoose long time Yamaha products specialist and he said the app support is coming, the pandemic really slowed down the team working on it. Was hoping it would be released by now or hopefully soon.

@@sig310 Both Yamaha and Roland are very high quality drum manufacturers. Either way you are going to get a very high quality product. The ways these 2 companies go about solving the same issues can be very different. Example Roland holds that they want to have the absolute lowest latency in their drum modules 3 ms. Roland didn’t introduce sample import to their drum modules until they could get it to that 3 ms mark. Yamaha has a higher latency at 7 ms but introduced sample import and layering to their last dtx modules 500/700/900 series and iOS app support for editing their drum units. Roland TD-11,15,20,30 modules had no sample import or sample layering but the latency was 3 ms. If you wanted sample import you had to buy spd-SX multipad or tm-2 modules and do sample import layering via 5 pin midi cable. I hope that makes sense

I just picked up the DTX6K3-X and this kit is great sounding and the Yamaha proprietary pads feel good. I'll be going to be getting a larger snare and moving the snare over to the other side for an extra floor tom, but all in all the sounds are great and the kit takes a beating. Used a Fender Rumble Bass amp with it for shows, then got my Tama starclassic maple and had no use for it anymore, and now since they're in my studio, I'm not able to practice as much as I would like. And here I am trying to find a new E kit for practice at home lol.

I have an old dxtreme II bitsa kit. I've always liked the Yamaha kits. The new wood shell series are very interesting but I think their pricing is a bit off. I don't know what wholesalers and dealers pay for these kits but the TCS pad thing has a ridiculous price tag. I'm tempted by the higher priced 8 and 10 series with the shells but I look at the EFnote 3x and I can't see that they're worth the extra dosh. I wish these manufacturers would split the module and the cable inputs parts. They could supply input boxes with a lot more expandability and it connects to the module with a singe cable. As always Justin, a well made, informative video. Keep going mate and Happy New Year to you.

I was wondering for a few years when Yamaha would go higher end for their electronic drums and with larger sizes/mesh options, so seeing the DTX8 and 10 with two head options is really nice. I wonder if they'll put something between the 6 and 8 series (maybe a redesigned 7?) that could make an all-mesh drum set with a 10 inch snare.

would love it if you did a video about loading samples from a VST onto those new Yamaha modules. Preferably something huge like a Superior drummer kit. It looks pretty cool from their demos but they are a bit ambiguous with the details. Something like it can hold 1000 samples, or it's 250MB of storage (which isn't much for the better sample packs like Platinum Samples), or they also mentioned some time limit of samples you can have. Not sure what that is about. It sounded great on the demo I saw, but with those numbers I suspect you can't get a full detail Superior or BFD kit on there. Hope I'm wrong though.

The DTX452K at a discount price is worth it. I have an acoustic set but use the 452K for practice and with software drums. It makes less noise than an acoustic drums and I added a smaller Zildjian high hat to play along with. It sure beats using the practice pads. Kick drum sensitivity is adjustable on the kick pad. The 452 is compact and 3 zone snare works for me. Comparing it to the early electronic sets in the places I coached, the 452 is a whole lot better. The $2.5k sets and above are a better investment for performing though. I’m trying to get use to the pedals on the electronic drums.

I have had a few different brands of e-Drums over the years, I unfortunately won't ever touch a set of Yamaha e-drums again. They're pretty much the only company that decided to wire all of their stuff differently. You can mix and match quite a few other brands of pads and modules, and all kinds of stuff.... but not Yamaha. (I had an old cheap DTX400). I love my acoustic vintage Yamaha Stage Customs, and my current edrum setup is a super old Roland TD6V plugged into a macbook with EZDrummer, all of the pads are Lauren Drums.

Why not combine a TCS snare with mesh toms in one kit? I think that's what most TCS lovers would prefer to buy. Did Yamaha just want to emphasize the difference in price between the two? I believe the best buy would be a kit with mesh with an extra TCS 12 snare. Too pricey for me though but the vfm is there compared to competition. I would like to see mesh pads on the dtx6 series.

I know i needed more than just that typically default setting.. and i do wonder, is certain module model have limited (we can't add more pads) or maybe can be less pad in terms to adding pads, if we compare to other module? I'm looking for my first drum kit at Thomann, choosing beetween Yamaha DTX452K and Roland TD-1DMK. The prices mentioned in Your videos are much different that what's available for me (not sure if this is a matter of region - USA vs EU, or time - some of the videos I watched are few years old; probably both!). So here both kits were 700$, but for me the 452K goes for around 590$ (kick pedal included) while the Roland is 720$ (kick pedal NOT included). So yeah, that's a big difference (again, not sure whether the case is region or time), and because of that I think I'll settle for the Yamaha. I think Roland's mesh pads and two-zone cymbals are not worth the extra ~200$ for me (raw price difference + a kick pedal) and drums won't be my primary instrument (guitarist here!) so I'm pretty sure I'll be satisfied with the Yamaha. Although, if anyone's reading this, I'll gladly hear your opinion on this situation!

I was in a similar situation, but I'm a drummer, who plays gigs, with a band, on an acoustic set. I needed an electronic kit, to practice more easily. Because of the reduced noise, and because I can mix sound input with the kit. I didn't want to pay too much, as my acoustic kit gets most of the budget allocation. But I wanted a kit with mesh pads, because I just can't imagine playing on rubber pads. I never tried a kit with rubber pads, but I do have a rubber practice pad. I bought a Roland TD1-DMK. Maybe could have save some money with Alesis, or some other brands, but I went with a known brand. I guess targeted marketing does work after all. TD1-DMK does exactly what I want it to do. It's good enough. But now I'm looking into some upgrades. A better hihat pedal, because this one is crap. A better ride cymbal, because this one is crap. A KT-10 kick trigger, to reduce even more noise. And maybe a TD17 module some day. TD1 does the job, for practice, but it's very basic.

Don’t get me wrong the Yamaha DTX 452 was a good drum when I first got it I was having fun with but as the months and years went on it just Kaina you know wasn’t the same because soon after the symbols don’t work anymore like I can’t get them to play any sound other than hitting them on one side of the symbol like it’s a weird spot and it’s not fun anymore and I feel like the drum pedal for that Series of drum what kind of cheap it just doesn’t have any really good feel do it that’s my personal opinions about That drum

Sorry, the pricing of Yamaha is way out of line. Why would I choose Yamaha over 2box, etc., which arguably have better, more realistic sounds for less money?

I think Yamaha didn't have a good sense of marketing, they cut off most of their low end kit, and put their 1499 kit with rubber pad is a huge mistake. In 20 century, most purchase consider value. I did a small research in Canada, DTX6KX, 2X, 3X are selling less than 50 last year but Roland are selling TD-07KV, TD-1DMK at least 7per month, Alesis sale more than 300 kits per year. I knew I shouldn't compare quantity to quality but everyone knew rubber pad is cheaper so for "normal people mind-set", if I buy rubber pad it should be cheaper. Mesh head may not have better result than rubber but seems more valuable, that's why their sales is bad even the DTX pro modules is really good.

I don’t understand how at this point they refuse to sell a kit at $700 which is a glorified DTX452K with a 4th Tom and a second crash

11:25 way better sounding than $7K Roland. Yamaha drums kits sound as part of the kit. Roland drum sound off. Like they don't belong on the same kit... Specially with the tom toms... DTX8K Module has very good drum sets where Kick, Snare and toms match as a whole kit. Even the cheap one sounded good. Even though I will use my drum samples with it. Roland? mmm nah!

Why so expensive? Totally nuts imho. Think of a the acoustic kit you could get for some of these prices…. These manufacturers are just exploiting the fact that some people just can’t have a “real” drum kit because of noise issues etc.
