Sokka wasn’t just sexist JUST to learn not to be; he got that way because all the men left and he felt like he needed to be a big strong man to protect the women. He hyped himself up into that state due to trauma. Even if it’s not super focused on, it still adds depth

@@leleo3805 Maybe they could handled it differently than what was done in the animated show but outright just reducing it entirely because it's "not a good thing" I feel like isn't the way to go. Ab*sing your own children is a terrible thing and one of the main characters has a permanent reminder of that literally burned into his skin. Character flaws and hard hitting topics (both of which aren't treated like good things) shouldn't be removed because it'll make people uneasy. It's all about how you execute those ideas and I believe Avatar did both well.

It was barely important, people are insane thinking 4 episodes is Sokka's ENTIRE character arc. Bro was sexist for literally 3 and a half episodes then had a magical girl transformation and is suddenly unsexist in 15-20 minutes by episode 4. I swear the only people who are mad about this are men while women are fine seeing it go. Probably because these man children see themselves in Sokka and think to themselves "he just like me frfr I used to be sexist but now I'm not" (here's a hint you're probably still lowkey highkey sexist)

About Sokka, The kyoshi island arc was important to his character development, but also, it was "empowering" to see a character who is like your brother, cousin, whoevers been saying "no girls allowed" to get proven wrong and apologizing, it was so good to see as a kid?! Also, they seem to take Zuko's evil deeds away too? He was the one who burned the Kyoshi island, but it seems like they're giving that evilness to the general now, I dunno, these characters are great since they are problematic, facing their wrongdoings and then growing and redemptioning from them. They feel real.

The Avatar stuff is upsetting. Removing negative elements from characters makes them lack their realism, and Avatar is peak because EVERY character shows incredible growth beyond their negative traits and becomes a wiser and more mature individual throughout the story. Taking that away is taking away the incredibly valuable lessons so many kids learned through Sokka’s interactions with his sister, Suki, and Toph.
@castform7
@castform7 10 ай бұрын
I would get it if Sokka's sexism wasn't called out before and they didn't want that in the modern show but it's literally part of his character arc. Sokka wanted to be a capable leader and warrior and part of learning what that truly meant was learning to respect the woman around him. It's like the people in charge saw the word "sexist" and we're just like "we can't have that in our modern show" without looking at why it was there and what they did with it. I swear the only reason One Piece made it out fine was because Oda made sure of it.

It’s the same reason why replacing his VA sucks. Get proper VAs now that times have changed. But keep the old ones. Also, if they were to remove Sokka’s sexism, they should remove Katara’s whole plot where she has to prove herself as a capable woman. Sure, it would be nice if women didn’t have to do that. But in this world, it makes sense. And women needed and currently need to prove themselves if they want to start being treated as equal to men. Showing girls what the future will be like, and that they’re fully capable of handling it is just as important as telling boys not to be sexist. Remove stories like that and you tell boys who might be sexist to never consider they might be, or reevaluate their own behavior. Sokka is a good role model.

What worries me the most is that Sokka's character arc is pretty basic and by no means I say it as an insult, it is a well executed simple narrative concept that is by now very well known and loved in Sokka's story as a whole. Its important to point out that it happens at Chapter 4 of the series, v e r y early yet it proves a cornerstone for a character arc for one of the members of the main cast for the entire series. Now, that a person part of a writing team that is handling an already very successful IP in a project with insane profit potential sees that and thinks "yeah you know what? fuck that" and absolutely no one in that team bats an eye to stop it is absolutely concerning. Who are you hiring Netflix? Why are you not micromanaging what could be smash hits? You are already giving them insane budgets, why not care for them? The Witcher, Cowboy Bebop, Avatar and other adaptations are suffering from Narrative teams that clearly don't know what they are doing and clash with what could just be a 1:1 retelling of the original narrative and still be c r a z y succesfull! But no, whoever oversees the storywriter teams in Netflix is just like "Cool, I was specifically told to waste money in shows that will last barely a couple seasons". It's not rocket science or even creating a new story, is sticking to the main plotpoints and character arcs that have already proved succesful in the past, please wake the f up Netflix management and reconsider the people running your biggest potential money cows.

Your mad for completely different reasons and are just using this to get your hate out, Sokka being slightly sexist was such a small part of his character it didn’t even last for that long just like u said since it ended really when he met suki and the Kyoshi warriors not to mention him starting to see how capable his sister was becoming, he simply had the hunter gather tribe brain, the women of his tribe literally took care of children prepared meals and healed while the men fought and collected fish, y’all really just complain about everything no one has literally ever made a video of the importance of it until they announced this about the new series and the OG series dropped in 2005 😂 it’s been 19 years, all because it’s such a small part of his character, now he’ll prolly be more cocky to compensate.

@@vonex3397If it was such a small part of his character, why are they taking it out. Wouldn't this follow the same argument of "not coming up in discussion until over almost 2 decades later". Why is it fine when the creatives at Netflix say it was too much that's okay but when people say it's a part of his early character and overall arc it's not. If it's so insignificant, why not leave it in especially considering it's a catalyst for Aang's release and the entire point of the episode that introduces Sokka to his love interest. Plus, what if this bleeds into the part at the Northern water tribe which was a big step for Katara's character.

This is the way him and his main love interest meet and the way Sokka starts to actually take his own "warrior path" more seriously. I wouldn't be exagerating when I say that chapter 4 is the actual point where Sokka's character arc and growth for the entire seriess truly begins and, if they change its root conflict, how would that go unnoticed? Characters are elevated for overcoming characters flaws, Sokka's sexism is a character flaw and the whole point of it being there narratively is so that his journey feels more satisfying when he overcomes it and becomes a better version of himself in the end.

Do you not know the shit men are taught and shown by- not just men, but older women too, growing up? They probably were sexist, but learned better. Seeing a character go through a change that's similar/relatable- as in a lot of places, people are taught things that are not great when they're growing up, probably means a lot to people. As a matter of fact, plenty of natives aren't officially affiliated with their tribe in the USA. The original people run their own channel now (check out GVG, they’re great) and left the unhealthy work situation cordially and quietly, they made sure to offer no hate to Andre and still considered him a friend. The situation blew up because when they talked about how their prior work situation was (not in any sort of inflammatory way) their fanbase and loved ones was not taking the nonsense they put up with and called GX out for it. GX is basically trying to make the Mr Beast of Nintendo gaming content and maximise the algorithm money, but they do not ethically source the amount of work necessary for their content. Everyone is leaving us but it makes sense, unless you’re one of the biggest the content creation game is brutal. I’m glad for any happy memories creators provided me with and happy for them to be able to start enjoying their lives without having to constantly be on churning out content.

Another example about modern retelling/ a keeping in controversial aspect is the Scott Pilgrim anime changed a lot of things (in an Eva rebuild fashion) is that they kept Scott Pilgrim dating a high schooler cause that’s apart of his overall development not manipulating people especially younger people and moves past that

I would like a VR/AR headset mostly for creative things. If the Vision Pro can run VR animation and art software and filming software, that’d be kinda cool! If I can use AR to film something like a cartoon in real life, that’d be awesome! But I don’t think I need a Vision Pro for that!

Yo Omni! Thanks for shouting out P3R and bringing it out there! P3FES brought me to the Persona franchise and it never disappointed. The story, gameplay, presentation, character development, day-by-day activities you can do, and the music are one of the best of the JRPG genre and i highly recommend it to gamers who are willing to invest the time to get the experience.

Since you asked Omni I'll tell you abt the why on the price point for the VR Headset. But first... Thank you for being you and being entertaining. Hope you're feeling better and recovery is going well. Anywhere. The price point is kind of simple to explain. Think abt like dev kits and first of their kind products some tech companies have. So Apple isn't really selling this product for mass consumption, rather this is a product for both developers, early adopters, and Apple stans that buy the first of products. Think back to the iPod or Apple Watch when it first came out was way inflated, moreso than their follow ups. This is more or less the situation. It's not a product meant to be revolutionary in any major way but it's there to make waves and create hype. The next headset is going to be cheaper for sure, but this is the first one for the Apple stans who will set this on a mantle at home and use it as a conversation piece.

The thing about the Vision Pro is that it’s also a computer with a virtual keyboard and you can scroll/activate/close windows and browsers like you would see in futuristic movies whilst also letting you view the outside world vividly (other VR headsets can too, but it’s more grainy and under low light, it’s just terrible). The face scan with realistic avatar isn’t the primary feature. While other headsets can also work as a computer, as always, Apple’s sells you on the convenience of it all and how it’ll be the future. Mind you, I won’t be getting one because, you know, money, but why it sells to other people is because to them, it doubles as a VR headset and “latest” computer. That, and probably bragging-rights.

For the Vision Pro there's a large difference between impressive technology and if it's actually something worthwhile to obtain. I'm sorry Omni but it is impressive technology, being able to recreate human faces to such a degree is extremely cool (if also a tad unnerving for its possible not so good uses) and impressive. Though, it definitely is not worth the price. In its current stage, it's a novelty at best. I could never see a world in which it's actually worth the pricetag as it is in that current state

You're not alone Omni, I too never impressed with any Apple product because of the their price. Because there's something cheaper than Apple and far far much more better than them. Like iphone for example, none of them have a back or go back button/touch interface and it is so hard to use ! Imagine paying more money to make my life harder ? I can't even understand that and will never be.

it's important to vent out your problems, but not vent your problems onto others.. it took me a while to get that, but it basically means. it's important to release the stress and pain inside you, but not to make someone else take on that stress and pain in your stead. truly it is best to let it all go and those around us can help with that.

The whle ATLA thing is, the creators of the series left the Live Action process for a reason. Once they left. I just knew, that unfortunatley, the live action just isnt gona be good most likely. Look at why the One Piece LA did so well. Oda was an integral part of the whole process, from casting, to the story. I feel if Oda wasnt as involved then it would have failed like the Death Note and Cowboy Bebop LA.

Omni my guy, that was like..absurdly tone deaf. You legit talked about how people will not want to work with you if you talk about how shitty they treated you, then jumped on them for not telling their boss no to over work. Like.. you can either be a kiss ass and deal with all their garbage, or you can live mentally healthy but physically destitute. there is no good middle ground unless you get lucky enough to have a position like yours. That's not to say it's easy to find that middle ground when you're your own boss, but it's far easier than trying to convince others to change their shitty practices in a landscape meant to bury you alive.

I feel the same way about the ATLA live action show as I do about the Percy Jackson show. I already enjoy the original and would rather watch (or in PJ’s case, read) the original. But with ATLA it makes far less sense because it was already a great tv show to begin with. Also, I genuinely believe that most child actors are terrible and just get a pass because they’re cute. And since all the main characters of Percy Jackson are kids and Aang is a kid, that doesn’t help their cases.

My problem with the tech layoffs is that the economic downturn for the tech sector was inevitable and obvious to anyone paying attention. People are staying inside so tech does well. The fact that they either did not see this coming or worse they did and they didn't care is what bothers me.

14:02 While I agree that Vtubers fundamentally look better, this is because they are HEAVILY stylised avatars, not real-time captures of someone's actual face. For a Vtuber you essentially have a true 3d model, a rig, the mocap suit and a very simplified version of facial capture onto a stylised avatar. This is impressive and looks great, I'm not saying it's not, but I don't think you realise how insane this tech is in terms of capturing EVERYTHING in real time with a realistic recreation of your face. It's like a VTuber model created on the fly. It's extremely impressive tech. That being said, the cost of this tech for the end-result use it can have is just not there yet. If this was in anywhere from the 500 to 1000 range, it would MAYBE make sense, but as is, it's just not reasonable for any casual consumer. It's an insane piece of tech with no market. If you could play VR *and* do all it does it would maybe start to make sense, but not as is.

I was so excited for ATLA Netflix - until I heard they changed Sokka's character development. Now I'm just sad and disappointed. I'll still give it a try, but it hurts to see them remove PROPER character flaws and development so to seem "better" and more inclusive. Yup, nothing says inclusivity by having protags be perfect from the start and only antags having to fail and change, smh 🤦🏽‍♀️

The apple vision pro is not really for everyday people. It's more for people whom love to be early adopters and developers. Apple has not truly specified what the vision pro is good at or what it's for, they just showed some of the capabilities and are allowing devs and the consumer figure out how to make it valuable.

For most people, the Vision Pro ain’t worth it because it’s Apple basically putting every sort of idea and technology into a very high end type of headset, but for those VR/XR/AR enthusiasts who love those kinds of headsets, it’s worth at least trying, as most of people who have a headset tend to be gamers, and Apple’s headset doesn’t focus too much on the gaming aspect of it. It’s only Apple’s first step, so in the coming years the price will drop down with every new iteration so they can compete eventually directly with Meta/Facebook/Oculus.

I think the Avatar thing is okay bc we still have a the Northern Water Tribe being sexist arc afaik. Also, vision pro is the price it is bc it's a VR headset, AR headset, and full PC in one not just a headset also it's gotta Apple up charging. It's overpriced, but not absurdly so

The apple vision pro really just looks like VR/FaceTime with extra steps (and with a $3.5k price tag to boot). I genuinely do not see a point in the product when you could just FaceTime someone with a phone (something that can literally fit in your pocket instead of a glorified visor you have to lug around your neck or in a bag).

I don’t think the vision pro is meant for everyone. I think it’s meant for early adopters to see if there’s a market and a way to develop it for the regular person, then the price will come down. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Okay so basically Omni it’s not that it’s “worth” 3500 dollars it’s just made out of extremely high quality and expensive metals sensors and glass which makes it expensive and based on how new it is and the expense I’d think of it as a really really expensive tech demo from Apple more than something actual people would be buying. So right now there is no reason to buy it but like maybe gen 3 of this device when it’s like 800 bucks and a lot lighter weight I think it could definitely be worth it.

The Apple Vision Pro is allegedly one of the best looking, most comfortable, most feature rich virtual reality / augmented reality headsets on the market. It's Apple's attempt at making a wearable PC that's comfortable enough to wear anywhere. I love VR and it looks like really cool tech, but it is NOT worth $3500. That being said, i hope it doesn't totally fail, because then we might start seeing things like this at an actually reasonable price point within the next 5-10 years.
