15:19 hot take: maybe men shouldn't be treated like shit in gaming spaces either. I know some men shit talk eachother and everyone has different senses of humor, but one difference is that men are shamed even harder for sharing that they're hurt or sensitive (and people like Tate and Myron from F&F actually exacerbate this kind of sexism *against men* who don't conform to society's ridiculous expectations for men, not just against women), even though women tend to get harassed more regularly, the shame around expressing hurt in this way is more severe for men, so they don't (which is also likely the reason men commit suicide more often than women, who are more encouraged to share their feelings and be vulnerable in this way). I personally like dark humor and some jokes others would find "offensive" and would have probably would have responded with "bro you're a psychopath", because I don't have the trauma of SA or domestic violence that many women do, and I recognize that some people are genuinely hurt by stuff like shit-talking (let alone saying someone's going to get r*ped, which isn't so much shit talk as a threat), and recognizing that is just a basic part of becoming mature. Sure, some people may seem like triggered crybabies from my pov, but they have the right to be upset about that kind of thing, and unfortunately many people say these kinds of things with complete sincerity, so being triggered is actually quite understandable, especially if you have a traumatic history, regardless of your gender, and while I'm not big on censorship in general, I do think the idea that the internet and especially spaces such as gaming are overly cynical, toxic and callous and that people can be held accountable for saying highly offensive things for the purpose of upsetting people and intimidation such as slurs or threats related to their race, gender, sexuality etc isn't really that much of a hot take, and while some things may fly with your group of friends, things that make other people not feel safe can effectively restrict their freedom to participate in an activity or in a certain space, so it's something to not brush off as them being a crybaby in cases such as this.

The way you're saying Yasuke is correct, the guy ranting in the video is wrong. xD ngl I did cringe when you said Nobunaga's name wrong..but glad you fixed it. Also heres a little known fact about Retainers in Japan. "Retainers were loyal and trusted individuals who served a lord, such as a daimyo or the shogun, in various capacities, especially in military matters. They formed an essential part of the samurai class and played a crucial role in the social and political structure of feudal Japan." So the fact that Yasuke was Nobunaga's retainer means he was someone with power. I believe Gaijin Gomba talked more in depth about Yasuke if you wanna take a look.

His rant is as logical as EZPZ, E;R, and Lily Orchard bitching and moaning about Steven Universe being propaganda for Nazism, pedophilia, and racism in the media, respectively, when they're just projecting their own abusive, Alt-Rightist thoughts onto the show in video form. Or how making women look old or writing them as Mary Sues and cocks is considered "feminism" when it makes them come off as sexist stereotypes. Or how promoting getting fat and loving it is considered "body positivity" when it's gonna get people bullied and give them eating disorders. Or how coming up with cures for deafness, blindness, and paralysis is considered "ablist" when physical disabilities more often than not hinder certain bodily functions that many extracurricular activities require people to have.

The toxic shit towards women, minorities, and people in general is bad energy. It's not the kind of environment we should be fostering. That bad energy essentially makes the world a worse place as it causes people to generally be worse toward each other, continuing this toxic cycle assholeishness and distrust. The thing w/ Yasuke is that this'll be the first time where one of the playable characters is actually a real historical figure. Every other playable character is fictional and a vehicle for us, the player, to experience that world, and the real world characters (i.e. Da Vinci, George Washington, etc.) were side characters you'd interact with to get info on what's going on. At the same time, they have been a native of that region (i.e. Connor in ACIII, Ezio in ACII, Bayek in AC Origins, etc.). The exception being Edward in AC Black Flag, but tbf a vast number of pirates during that time were western europeans looking for riches outside of their homeland. So prior to Yasuke being announced, that's been the norm. Yasuke could even be in that same league of Da Vinci if they wanted to, but they've ultimately decided for him to be an MC. My thoughts: Now on paper I don't personally mind them going w/ Yasuke as a playable character BECAUSE so little is known about the dude outside of his 2-3 year service to Nobunaga (idc whether he was just a retainer or a samurai or whatever, I ultimately think that's a semantics argument, at least in the grand scheme of things, which I'll get to in a sec), especially after Nobunaga got ganked. And I don't necessarily mind them breaking the norm and playing a historical character given the mystery around the character My only real worry is if they're going to use Yasuke as a token, rather than write an actual compelling character. Or, worse, a selling point for people to bitch about, distracting from the real issue which is the god awful pricing structures, and the need for online for install (not to play, just install, but still). Reminder that Ubisoft was one of the first corporations to say they want people to "be happy with not owning the games they play" (paraphrasing).

Disclaimer first: I am a vtuber watcher and hololive fan in general. That being said, I think that there probably should be a discussion about racism in the vtuber community, but really a couple of the things he brought up seriously rubbed me the wrong way-even ignoring the extenuating stuff about his personal character and his rather aggressive behavior. As others have pointed out, the usage of clips of vtubers using words that sound similar to the n-word, but are totally normal to use in their own language, for one, is either extremely ignorant or just plain malicious. The treatment of the community as a whole as a monolith, as well, is something I dislike. A specific point I'd like to push back on is the lack of dark-skinned vtubers being in hololive as an example of racism. I do think the door should be open for people of color to be able to join hololive provided they qualify, but I'd imagine that over on the hololive ID/JP branches, there's not likely going to be many people of color. So yes, none of their models are black, because they themselves are (most likely) not black. As for the English branch, we've had 3 gens so far. 16 members total, with Sana being the only member with a model with skin color than white, who graduated. I can't speak for all of them, as I try not to dig too much into their private lives, but AFAIK, most of the ones with prominent alternate identities are not black. Would it not be stranger for them to include a black model for the sake of diversity when the talent themselves are not a person of color? If they did hire someone of color and forced onto them a light-skinned model, then I would agree that there's clear cut racism at play, but I haven't heard any such case yet. The other thing that I wanted to bring up was the point about vtubers of color being less popular than vtubers with light-colored skin. I would genuinely be interested in seeing if someone could bring up some concrete examples or statistics of this being the case. But assuming such is the case, as has been claimed, then I want to ask what a solution could be to such a trend. If a vtuber is truly less popular because they are dark-skinned, then what could be done to remedy this? I don't think changing people's preferences is reasonable. Unfortunately people have personal likes and dislikes, and it's not really possible to mind control the masses into enjoying something. Am I saying that dark-skinned vtubers are inherently worse or inferior? No. It's the same way that people will be more inclined or less inclined to watch someone if they're pretty or ugly. If they're a boy or a girl. Different people will like different things. Some people will like dark-skinned vtubers more, and some will not. Is this a problem of racism? Also, if I have misunderstood the points being made, if somebody could explain to me that would be appreciated. I am not against changing my mind on the topic, and would like to engage in a discussion about the topic, rather than a shouting match, or shit-slinging.

Honestly, knowing Assassin’s Creed I wouldn’t get your hopes up. They’re probably going to heavily alter the storyline to fit the game or just tell a completely made up story with some allusions to real history, the fact there’s an optional playable female character already alludes to that fact since I doubt that they’ll give her a completely different storyline. Also, in recent AC games, the male option has typically never been canonical unless they decide to change that up for this game. Perhaps by making them dual protagonists, I don’t know. Playing as Yasuke is cool, but also why did he have to be an Assassin’s Creed MC? Honestly, it does seem pretty forced to me and not just because Japan is incredibly homogeneous or anything but also because Assassins Creed has never had a historical figure as an MC before, atleast not in a full game. Sure, historical figures have been present as side characters, playable characters of some missions, and MC’s in DLC but never for a full fledged game. It’s strange to me why Ubisoft felt the need to make him a protagonist of his own game, breaking convention, when most already fans know that they won’t tell a story fully accurate to the history of Yasuke. They could’ve made him a significant side character and then given him DLC where he’s the protagonist or, better yet, given him his own game instead of tying him down to the typical AC BS.

In regards to the Black Assassins Creed argument.... I lean moreso of it being a DEI/brownie points thing only because this is the first time a Main Character has been a historical figure when playing any AC game when every single one has been fictional characters interacting with the era and region. Also the last samurai was about western industrialization coming to Japan, respecting the culture, and appreciating it. That's like saying we shouldn't enjoy Kevin Costner's 'Dances with Wolves' in regards to Native Americans. Native Americans had nothing but good things to say about the movie. Admittedly there was initial contention on "The Last Samurai", but I think Kent Watanabe is the probly opinion I trust the most.: ***Wiki Article*** In a 2022 interview with The Guardian, Ken Watanabe stated that he didn't think of The Last Samurai as a white savior narrative and that it was a turning point for Asian representation in Hollywood. Watanabe also stated, “Before The Last Samurai, there was this stereotype of Asian people with glasses, bucked teeth and a camera,” [...] It was stupid, but after The Last Samurai came out, Hollywood tried to be more authentic when it came to Asian stories. *** Back to Asssissins Creed*** Plus I don't know how a slave becomes a trained Samurai in 15 months with no documented prior fighting experience?

The AC games were never really concerned with being historically accurate but more focused on general vibes (I'm pretty sure Leonardo da Vinci wasn't a member of a secret, centuries old organization of assassins). All of the games fudged details for cool set pieces, aesthetics and storytelling. There has also been dozens of stealth/action games recently about samurai and ninjas so making one of the main protagonist a foreigner instantly makes it stand out from other games like Ghost of Tsushima and Rise of Ronin. Edit: Also, to answer the take "why can't they just make a game set in Africa instead of inserting black people in situations that don't make sense" is pretty simple, corporations won't let creators tell those stories. There are so many times creators wanted to make characters that were none white and/or female but higher ups made them change it to a white male because it would be "more marketable." The most popular movies that take place in Africa and have a mostly black cast that isn't about slavery or gangsters are the Black Panther movies, and that's because they're Marvel movies. I can guarantee most creatives would love to make completely new franchises for their diverse characters but the guys that control the money believe these characters have to be a part of a pre-existing franchise to be profitable. So it's not always just pandering but also probably the only way these characters could exist in the first place.

Personally I would rather have a AC game set in Africa just because how under represented Africa is in general. Like if you a game set in Africa its like 9/10 times it's set in Egypt in triple a games, Africa has so many cool stories but people just don't won't to tell them so im feeling alittle mixed because i understand it's pandering because it's obvious that the Corp doesn't care and maybe some staff care but man it's cool to see Yasuke

There are a lot of women who have no problems with shittalking but this shit is over the line and it's so exhausting to deal with in every aspect of your life. Because the threats, the jokes, they never go away, because these types of people just don't get it. They don't care. Imo he was very childish about it all, none of those hololive girls are bad people and said the word out of malicious intent to hurt anyone it was an honest mistake they never said it again ever, he even put in clips of them speaking Japanese and him making a "joke" about them saying it, you have people who don't know these girls or watch them thinking they are racist when they aren't just look at the people defending him on this they are misinformed as well. The AC drama is so stupid. If it was just Yasuke as the Main Character then I could maybe see an argument of it just being pandering, but the other MC is literally Japanese! It's not like they will be making you pick between 1 or the other like in Odyssey and Valhalla, you will more than likely be switching between the 2 like in Syndicate. He went into vtubing and then called it bad. If you hate it so much, dont join! #2 he framed people (at least in the original vid). This dude making these girls look racist when they were playing GTA. Does he not know how common it is for people to say bad words they hear if its in a different language? Also, most Eastern countries dont even know the N word's meaning. #3 He doesnt get what he is looking at. What he thinks is vtubing is really culture. A black vtuber would do decent in the US but in JP audiences they would flop. Not because of vtubing bjt because JP isnt used to black people, and wouldnt find it as attractive. Meanwhile EN/US is more used to black people but guess what. Black content creators have the same issue, its not just vtubing.

Tokyo never existed until 1868 which is way beyond the era the game is set in 5. 38:30 Yasuke was a retainer, but he was a samurai. Retainers (trusted allies/protectors of the emperor/dynasty) were oftentimes Samurai themselves in Japanese society. There is a lot of documentation of Yasuke receiving the same payments as a samurai, receiving a blade, and receiving warrior status. The only reason why it is not explicitly definitive, is cause he objectively was special. He was one of Nobunaga's most trusted men, and allowed a higher amount of privileges compared to most men. He was extremely high ranking and technically outside of the traditional samurai organizational structure, but was a samurai nonetheless. Omni I feel it is a bit irresponsible to just repeat stuff you see on Twitter. Don't take offense to that though, since for most of us it isn't our job to repeat the information. But fr I feel like sometimes you "show the other side" more than you are actually showing the information.

My thoughts on the topic I will hold off my thoughts until Shizzy responds because there's also three sides to the story (his side, her side, and the truth). The Valorant clip is definitely harsh and that guy needs to be banned. With all that said, this is why you block, report, and mute people because Valorant is known for being toxic af. Tate and Myron are disgusting. Justify this behavior is nasty. Also, men never had to be told they were about to get graped. I don't know much about the Ak situation but so far it's not looking good for Akademiks. I'll wait until more info comes though. Everyone mad about Yasuke don't know he was a real person and is apart of Japanese history. Also, the game has a Japanese protagonist as well but because she's female, it doesn't count in these people's eyes 🤦🏾. Also, that dude in the video is acting like Japan themselves don't portray Yasuke as a Samurai. Freaking Samurai Warriors had him as a fighter in the game. Like this is a nothing burger. The George Logan situation is getting nasty. I remember when this episode went viral due to Bobby Lee doing too much and it was nasty. People are messed up so they obviously would take advantage of the portal. This is why some people need to be touched. I honestly don't care about the other topics.
