@@boliveto To be fair, Grian is also a troll. I would argue even bigger troll than Etho. Grian not only trolls on camera, but also off camera (his own), just to make content for someone else. But most importantly, he only does it around friends. If you invited Grian to your video for a collab, I guess he'll keep himself fairly low in terms of trolling. As a content creator, you don't want to insult someone you don't know, you don't want to somehow cause harm. And since you don't know what kind of humour the other side has, it's best to keep jokes at the bare minimum, play it safe. After you know them better, you can start with some bigger jokes and trolls, knowing they'll be okay with that. Also, even if you know the kind of humour the person might have, it still isn't adviced to assume they'll be okay with you trolling, as they most likely don't know you, they're actually giving you some of their time to make content, if they agree to do a collab together (they might have watched some of your previous videos briefly to kind of make an image of your personality and if it actually fits in their perspective, but not enough for you to troll them), and they could be quite upset if you suddenly started trolling them. If you want to incorporate trolls in your collabs, do it only after you've known each other for a while (and by that I mean on a personal level, not just through watching each other's content), so after like 10s of collabs when you get to know each other and kind of become friends. The reason why such trolling that occurs on Hermitcraft, Empires or Life SMP, is that they're friends and tolerate such behaviour, they actually know each other. Do it on an online general open SMP against a random person and I can guarrantee you that you'll be banned in a minute. It's generally not adviced to troll players on an SMP.

Long time Etho fan here. Etho mentioned either in one of his modded episodes or while working on the Nexus that he has experience in Visual Basic (by today's standard an old programming language), he has also been a problem solver for years. He's a private guy so there could be more to him, but he has well earned his reputation as a big brain.

Visual Basic is still in use. May not be ideal for many desktop environments, but factory wise they’re just getting around to incorporating an embedded version into PLC / HMIs. By no means is it irrelevant, but application specific. Though we do make fun of VB programmers for not converting to C or C#. But playfully 😭

It’s hard to say since Etho is pretty private, but if I had to guess I would say he has background in coding/web design similar to Tango, cuz that helps with designing and planning long-term. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a minecraft legend too

He actually does have some, but none of it is professional, and not nearly as much as Tango that we know of. There was this game called Worms (Armageddon if I am not mistaken) that was around in the early 2000s, and he did some coding and modding in that. That's actually where "Ethos Lab" originated. Other than that, all we know is that he worked in horticulture for his family's greenhouse and did yourube on the side for a few years. He left that when his parents retired.

I remember a Tango stream where he mentioned that he had a long conversation with Etho about the design of Decked Out before he started work on the sequel. Etho may or may not have any formal design background, but he’s certainly gained a reputation for providing quality feedback on mini game design

etho has talked about his IRL past, pre youtube was self taught coder, who basically coded bots or found exploits in the game design in things like runescape or whatever. I think he is just a very smart, min/max gamer who is also nice and approachable and enjoys the challenge of coming up with ideas and/or helping. So if you're coming up with an idea, he'll probably come up with 20 ways to exploit it but also help fix those holes. I'm sure there are better technical coders, but Etho sees the big pitcture and just seems like a good guy all around which is why I think alot of people come to him.

From what I've seen in Etho's videos, he's always been big on game design and balace. I think it just genuinely interest him. The amount of time he put into designing the Battle Bane map, and all of those maps he built with Bdouble0 on the various SMPs they've done. Maps aside, the he puts so much effort into balancing the mechanics of his minigames too, a more recent one would've been riptide on hermitcraft. As people have mentioned he does have some background in programming whether it's profession or just hobbist. I'm fairly certain he has a show case on his channel of a 3d rendering engine he made, where he faked 3D using a 2d engine or something like that

I think there's just something intriguing about Etho basically almost being a walking wikipedia and seems to have a lot of knowledge on Minecraft mechanics and etc. From watching his videos, if Etho doesn't know something or doesn't understand, he almost immediately goes and tries to understand it. And if he were to give guesses as to how something works, he gives reasonable assumptions that follows logic, so usually what he says is objective, and true. It's not usually biased, or emotion-based, which puts him on neutral ground if he gave advice to other hermits. He doesn't jump into acting out choices until he weighs out all the possibilities he can. I did realize that "Grian leans to Etho's opinion", but at the same time, I feel like Grian is a little competitive or intimidated by him. Etho has many subscribers, but it's not like exponentially growing like Grian. But Etho's fans write comments in paragraphs about how great he is, and I sometimes wonder if Grian compares himself with Etho. They're both great at trolling, quite witty, and have a knack for thinking of possibilities. When Etho rejoined Hermitcraft, I realized Grian was actively trying to hang out with him a bit more. But Etho is kind of neutral and was just doing his own thing, and Grian just sort of distanced himself from him overtime. But many times I notice that Grian tries to team up with Etho or something in the life series, but eventually they still don't end up in the same team. I don't know if it's just Etho not preferring Grian or something tbh. I started with Grian, but switched to Etho because tbh I just trust Etho a bit more. He's not forcing content out or anything, he's just being himself.

About us Etho fans to write paragraphs about how amazing he is that's not on purpose, there's something about this guy that just hearing his voice makes me feel good and I say most of his fans feel that way.
