whats happening is that kate and stephen are two scientists that worked at the abservatory that you see in this gameplay video. they encounter through the observitory a strange "pattern" that apears to be a sort of lifeform. the "pattern" was observed "infecting" other lifeforms, sometimes killing them in the process. kate concludes that the life form was merely trying to communicate with them while being unaware of the harm it was inflicting. at the same time stephen is convinced that the pattern is a deadly threaght that could be capable of destroying the human race. as the pattern spreads into the people of the village, stephen urges the government to quarantine the area. there respective viewpoints culminate into the actions they take during the end of the game where stephen attempted to destroy it while kate chose to embrace it.

I feel like one of the few people who actually enjoyed this game. More than that actually, thoroughly loved it. The atmosphere, the voice acting, the story, the setting, the music. All gripping and masterfully done. People complain about the ending, most of the comments on this video are insulting it and this game. But honestly, I don't think it could have ended differently. Any attempt to fully explain the light would have come across as contrived and exposition heavy, and honestly a bit of a cop out. The idea that this entity transcends human consciousness (shown by Kate seeing the people of the town in the light, and simon seeing her in the Bunker), implies that we can never understand it. Its mysterious, and so was the ending. And I loved it. Each little story told throughout the game felt genuine and heartbreaking. On a side note, maybe it helps that I am British and few games are set in Britain, so it was a joy to soak up the wonderful, quaint feeling that only rural Britain can capture. Bravo Chinese Room.

+khanani87 I loved it for similar reasons. It had it's problems sure, but just exploring that world and gradually piecing together that beautifully written story was a great experience- frankly I'm impressed Sony took the chance on something like this, something a bit different and not just another run of the mill shooter. And like you I'm sure it resonated more with me than it might with a non British player. Even more so because I grew up in the 80's so a lot of this felt very familiar and therefore more chilling.

@Gavinanimator8 жыл бұрын
Personally I don't like it when gameplay is mixed with an open world. Usually gameplay is made to be linear, while open worlds are made to be nonlinear. In my opinion, a linear playthrough kinda takes away the point of an open world. Why would you wanna have to backtrack over and over to make progress when the progress could be all around you? And that's what this game tells us, and I agree with that.

Played through twice and about to start another ... one of the most profoundly cathartic moments in PC "gaming" that I've experienced. This is like the 2001: a Space Odyssey of gaming. Slow and not overly exciting, but deeply moving and evocative for those who are open to it. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Gears of War and Final Fantasy, but this game is a true work of art. To be fair, it's not much of a 'game', and yet of course that word is just a place holder, just like comics (which originate from their history as newspaper funny pictures even though their point is rarely exclusively light-hearted humor anymore). The imagery is rich and varied, the music is beautiful, and the story contains some very deep and fundamental truths. One of the best 'games' I've every played.

I know I'm super late to the party but after doing some research. The interactive game-play here is that there are codes to crack and hidden meanings to understand. Going around you can see tons of people talking about what this game is actually about, as well as the meanings and themes between the lines. There are even some ciphered messages and codes in the game for people to work together on solving.

The greatest, most interesting and fast-paced action game available currently. Make sure to buy it full price. Not at all boring. It all builds up to the grand finale, the final act. You won't feel at all like you've just wasted five hours that you could have been watching paint dry. The gripping action scenes featuring flying orbs and mundane conversations keep you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The twist ending is top notch, definitely not already in the title and makes even Stephen King jealous.

Rapture goes by several definitions but one seems to hold true to this game: “a mystical experience in which the spirit is exalted to a knowledge of divine things.” The creature I have come to believe is that divine thing or better known as God. The story shows the differing perspective of this divine interventional event. One of fear of the unknown which is rational and one that is accepting of fate which is in itself rational in its own right. I believe God in the story was trying to communicate with the people but having them to turn to light was always the plan, God simply wanted to explain. When God was rejected by Stephen and so many others it came to realize that these people were exactly like the fox Stephen talked about, they were poor dying animals who had no idea what was occurring. God knew that the only way to communicate to them was to take their souls and finally bring them to peace, or heaven. This is referenced in one of the songs that states “tabernacle on the sun” which is referring to what some humans believe would be heaven. The reasoning for God absorbing humanity into its light is unknown, and I think that’s the point. We have this divine entity that is grand and powerful and infinite, especially infinite that to understand its reasoning, it’s plans, it’s process would be impossible. So no matter how much it tried to communicate with its creation it was for lack of a better word “stupid” to understand, again just like the fox. The story seems to show that all the people were brought to a paradise. They found peace, they did not so much turn into light as be absorbed by the light of God. And God at least to most (including myself) is an ultimate good. Everyone found peace through God. This is my interpretation, of the events of this fantastic video game.

OK! I think I have wrapped my head around a chunk of this game. (Somewhat) I love the fox analogy, but I am not sure I fully understand the "It doesn't know it's hurting us" statement. Did it think "it" was helping? If that's the case, why does it cause headaches and nose bleeds? In addition to that, was that little glowing ball at the end (The one Stephen was talking to) suppose to be Kate? If so, that sort of completely underminds the first words spoken in the game. "I am Kate Collins and I am the only one left". Maybe she meant the only one left in a "soul-like" form as the other souls have left to the "Beyond". So does this mean you were playing as Kate in her ghost form? Damn. So many questions. Like I said, I have somewhat wrapped my head around this game's story. Maybe someone should make a reddit post about this allowing everyone to come together to figure all this "stuff" out. Well, all the ones who give a shit about this game that is.

JOSEPH COTO Hmmm. That's an interesting point you bring up there, In a way Kate and Stephen represent "two sides of one coin". Like you say, either to embrace or destroy. I wonder if that somehow plays into the nosebleeds and stuff because I don't believe I remember Kate having Nose bleeds. On the other hand, maybe the nose bleeds are just a symptom of "it" trying to communicate with us. However, I still don't get the last line of the game. "This pattern is mine" If this "pattern/lifeform" was trying to communicate with everyone how can it be just hers?
@Werewulver9 жыл бұрын
+h20DDs Listen to what she says when she's at Tower 5. We, as humans, leave patternes as well - not patterns of light, but pattern of constructions, fields, and human creation as a whole. Her Pattern was to embrace the light, to be that bridge, that human construction between that Alien lifeform and Earth, I guess.
@Werewulver9 жыл бұрын
+h20DDs To add to my previous comment, Kate says "Everyone has found another one; this pattern is mine". While most humans went with... well, other humans, she was left alone; Lizzie and Stephen were meant to be a couple, and, in her eyes, in the afterlife, they'll be reunited. So she decided to have this Alien lifeform that she studied, that she protected by living - as in, if she died, the Alien would've either died or left -, to be her Alter Ego, her Significant Other - whatever you want to call it.

Though confusing as hell some points in the game, I really did make you think a lot haha! I felt like a philosopher trying to get through this game.

I loved this game! I hate reading the comments and reading "it's like watching paint dry" as it's not when playing you feel immersed in the story,yes it can be boring just walking around but I found it so easy to get lost in the story! Brill game

People who actually understands this game is mature because this is the type of game where the story is more than the action. In fact, there's not much actions in this game just the fact that the effects are good. There's a message behind this game which i understand and it's that we, humans are slowly killing ourself with what we are doing now.

so its the plot of chrono trigger except minus all the exciting stuff and minus crono. Lavos comes and eats all space and time and everyone is turned to one and everything is left as nothing. Wormwood wins.

Time for my shit theory to join the lists: Everyone got infected with a virus and died from internal bleeding except for the player character and a few others (Kate, etc.), the whole ghost thing was made up to help support the Player character as he couldn't deal with the fact that everyone had brutally died in the way they did - DONE! HE'S CRAZY (but with good reason considering everyone had been horrifically killed, that's why you don't see bodies, because he is mentally blocking them as if he saw them it would send he completely mad) - This game is still shit...

You're just too dull to understand it. It tells me that you wouldn't be capable of understanding any work of literature deeper than a comic strip. Even the advanced form of these, graphic novels, would be beyond you.

robinwitch666 for me, I only saw 20 mins worth of gameplay, and it looks boring. I am a top notch reader whom excels at understanding stories, and this made no sense.
@tdcroissantwoods58416 жыл бұрын
@@robinwitch666 ok I think you need to relax, you can't insult someones intelligence just because yoh know that their right, why else would you be getting mad about one random dude on the internets opinion? Anyway, they aren't wrong. While the story and overall plot is interesting, it's the execution that causes its downfall, without any interaction and a slow movement speed, the game makes no effort to maintain interest and entertainment

So, this game is trying to say that no human understands eachother or are close to eachother, and we only hurt eachother? 2edgy4me.

Hating on a game just because it didn't live up to what you expected it to be is stupid I knew what I was getting when i bought the game and completely enjoyed it to me the game is a masterpiece in its own way and the music solely warrant a full purchase in my opinion

This game had the potential to be such an amazing game , but it's so shit :/ all you do is follow a ball. The songs are scary and nice , if only it was like a survival game like last of us.
