During his match, the bell rang and duggan went stone serious and said "hold on! Who rang that bell?!" ..everyone laughed but duggan kept an angry tone and face and said "no im serious who rang that bell?!"...the time keeper slowly raised his hand, you could hear a pindrop...and duggan busts into a huge smile and yelled "oh ok, i just wanted to know, that was a heck of a job ringing that bell, you did great!" And gave him a big thumbs up. Lol i was about 4 feet from duggan during all this and even i couldnt tell it was a rib....dude just had a childlike friendliness to him, but an educated, smart, and professional demeanor at the same time. Do you think Brooklyn brawler and a thousand other guys like going out and getting their asses squashed every night? “How hard he worked to climb the ladder” - everyone works hard in wrestling, it doesn’t entitle you to win, get the belt, hold the belt, or not do the job for a veteran if that’s what the PROMOTER WANTS. Man.. child-minds… imagine fans saying: Tom cruise can’t lose that fight scene - he’s worked so hard and deserves to win. …and the “long-term outcome” is completely irrelevant to what happened that night. Imagine being that irrational - If Austin changes his name and character YEARS later and becomes the biggest star, THEN what he did was ok, and hacksaw is therefore jealous in recounting the story. I love when these guys who refuse to hang up their boots and move on with their lives criticize other wrestlers by saying "where is he now?" I dont know, maybe he got a job and isn't still trying to wrestle into his 60s?

You have to understand I saw Hacksaw as the great American hero. Stone Cold feud back when hacksaw was in his prime after winning the rumble would have been a great feud! Stone Cold is greatness in WWF attitude era. He brought the real deal back in the day.

Hate to say it, but Austin was right to be mad. Up and comer vs old vet after being promised the world. Hogan didn't make that hogan money by being giving. In wrestling you have to be selfish to stay on top. Just look at the current product. The final boss picked up the win over cody and after nearly 4 years as champ roman was a in the background

@@chrischar9428 Yeah I call bullshit on that too. Hacksaw might've been a state wrestling champion in high school, but that was in high school. He hadn't wrestled a real match since then and he certainly didn't know any hooks. Best he could've done was throw some punches and hope that Steve didn't have the chin to shrug it off.

Duggan seems to have forgotten what business he was in - the worked fight business. In WCW, at his age and shape, Duggan should have been volunteering to put young, upcoming talent over, especially an incredible talent like Steve Austin. Duggan has a beef with Austin that Austin never had with Jim. Austin's complaint was the booking, not Duggan himself...

@@tomtom30594139 normally isn't old in wrestling, but Duggan wasn't in great shape and his ring work had gotten lazy. Duggan was a shadow of his Mid-South days and a step slower than his WWF run. Austin's problem was the booking of just losing to Duggan for no reason - no heat, no fued, no intention of moving Austin up the card after dropping the title. It was terrible booking. Duggan should have been putting young, talented guys like Austin over to help build the next generation of stars. Older guys put Duggan over when he starting to break through, but Duggan didn't want to do the same for others on the back end of his career. Selfish move by the thumbs up guy...

The internet cannot accept the fact that Steve Austin had his head up his ass half the time. He was injury prone back then and wasnt the guy/character he became. Nobody saw dollar signs with Austin until later 1996, regardless of what they say. Even after the 316 promo, he was booed heavily for a long time.

No one thought that Austin would be the top guy of the industry, but a lot of us thought that he should have been working his way into the world title/PPV picture. He usually had some kind of title around his waist and was working his tail off for WCW. No one could predict mega-star, all time great status for Austin, but he was certainly heading towards being a main event guy. Until Hogan and cronies came on board and Bischoff poured all of his efforts into featuring a bunch of 40 year olds...
@hezamachine8 ай бұрын
No one knew that this match was going to happen. Ricky Steamboat was originally scheduled to defend the US title against Steve Austin, but he was suffering from a back injury and could not compete. As a result, Austin won the US title by forfeit. Austin would defend his title against a mystery opponent that was revealed to be Hacksaw Jim Duggan. This was Duggan's debut match in WCW. By him losing to Duggan it stopped all the momentum Steve had and was let go in less than a year. The entire situation devalued the US title by having three US Champions in one night.
