Great review! I grew up in Kazakhstan. I remember Nissan Patrols and Toyota Land Cruisers used by the United Nations all over Central Asia especially in conflict zone like Afghanistan, Tadzhikistan as most reliable vehicles available. At some point oil and mining companies tried to bring Suburbans following the U.S. embassy suit. That did NOT work very well given the vast spaces and absence of proper road surfaces at the locations they were operated. In most cases Suburbans designed for smooth roads would not last a year. Patrols and Cruisers won the battle hands down. They were every kid’s dream vehicle at the time.

The newer Patrol based Armada had an unusable 3rd row for me. Not that I would be riding back there but if you get the center captain seats with a rear facing car seat in place there’s a good chance an adult will have to ride in the 3rd row. The 3rd row was way too low for me at just under 6’ tall. From photos it appears that the 1st gen Armada has 3rd row seating that sits up higher. Is that the case? Either way I would probably go with the center bench seat so the car seat can go in the middle.

I rented a 2023 Armada in Canada for one full month and put around 3,000 KM on it driving all kinds of roads for different uses. Indeed a tough platform that is built to last. Not short power but thirsty on fuel. 2 things I didn't like are the seating position and performance on rough roads at speed. You will experience some serious jumping on suspension joints or rough patches on the high mostly due to the body on frame structure. I am used to premium vehicles when it comes to seats and I wasn't able to get the seat configuration to feel at home mainly the back and knee support. Lots of off-road miles and I've never been stuck except once in some deep snow near an 8' drop off a road edge. The only reason I got towed out was so I didn't roll over that edge. @@mrmoonlight3643 Hi, some information from Central Europe may come in handy. I am sorry for my English...This is the 6th series Nissan Patrol (model Y62) 2010 - present. Patrol is for the North American market under the name Armada. Luxury Armada = Infinity QX 80 (formerly QX56). The previous models Y60 (1987-97) and Y61 (1997 - they were still produced in some markets, they ended up in Central Europe in 2010) were very popular in our country. The most popular in our country was the 2.8TD engine. However, the Y62 is not produced with a diesel engine. Y62 is not imported into Central Europe at all. No one would buy it. The V8 5.6 engine has been in production since 1990. Today, it is an outdated, inefficient engine that will eat you full throttle. The second face lift Armada in 2021 - the engine offers an output of 405 PS 0-100 for 6.6 sec max. 210km / h and the average consumption does not go below 20 liters / 100km. Not even 30 liters is difficult to achieve. For comparison, the same size Mercedes GLS 400 D 2021 is a diesel six-cylinder with a capacity of 2.9 with 324 ps 0-100 for 6.3 and max. 234 km / h, consumption is up to 10 liters / 100km over 12 liters is a problem to get on average. If the V8 5.6 petrol engine is less powerful than the R6 2.9 diesel, then it's very funny. Mercedes GLS with a petrol engine has an output of 430 KW 0-100 in 4.2 sec. Being in your place I would buy a car with an American Hemi engine, because in case of failure there are cheap repair kits. If Nissan breaks down, everything is expensive and I think it's hard to find for you. First sit down and write down what the car must have, if the car will tow a trailer and how heavy, the consumption you expect, equipment, small / large SUV, power and how much it should cost, and only then do you look. And remember: The paint doesn't ride, it sells

The Nissan CPO is an extension of the powertrain warranty only. I love warranties but powertrains so rarely go bad on Japanese vehicles within 7 years that it's effectively pure profit. However, they can upgrade you to a "wrap" warranty that converts the powertrain only warranty to a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Typically, dealers try to sell these for way above cost so the value of them depends on what you can buy it for. They are not required to do a direct injection cleaning as part of the CPO, but obviously it could be negotiated into any deal. Here is a link to some opinions and ideas about Nissan direct injection - www.titantalk.com/threads/injector-intake-cleaning.428125/

Awesome comments Wretched! I have been so lucky to buy and sell maybe 500 pre-owned Infiniti QX56 and QX80's as well as a great many Armadas. (Being a used car director for such a long time at such a big store is why - I had amazing salespeople who made me look better than I really was). When the new QX came out it was bashed for having bad timing chains and any number of quality control issues. This goes all the way back to 2004 when QX56 and Armada's were brand new and had terribly warping brakes (which was true) and DVD players literally falling from the ceiling of people's vehicles (also true). Americans brake late and they hadn't accounted for it was Nissan/Infiniti's company line. DVD's weren't initially planned and were a last minute add was their excuse for the Chicken Little DVD player problem. So the platform had a bad rep. However, turns out the 2004-2010 (especially 2008-2010) QX56's and 2004-2016 (especially 2008 and newer) Armada's were awesome SUV's that hit 300,000 miles every time with proper service. However, the reputation lives on (and those weak early timing chains didn't help) and folks are scared of this platform with miles, which drives the price down...a lot. A private party 90,000 mile SV can be had for $18000 all day because the dealer only takes that truck in trade for 14000-15000. A 2001 4Runner with 90k brings that kind of money on Bringatrailer. A case could be made that the 4Runner is a better truck is why, but I digress. Armada's are hardly perfect, smallish 3rd row seats. smallish trunk and 16 combined mpg's to name a few...but 18 grand? It's like that commercial where choosing Charles Barkley is the no brainer of the century.

@@everycarSeattle Not disagreeing with anything you just typed but your original headline was for 2017+ model years, which is why I brought up the direct injection issues that are known to occur on the 2017+ model Armadas (and the Y62 platform-sharing 2011+ QX56/QX80). I love this platform but the DI engines don't bode well for relatively maintenance-free ownership as they age. And the only other point I was making was that these Y62 models of Armada (17+) and QX56/80 can not be had for under $20k in today's (inflated) market. In the current market, as a consumer and not a dealer, that's nearly an impossible find. Love your videos and not picking a fight, I'm just saying that I don't agree with the market assessment from a non-dealer consumer perspective right now and that folks should know the require Direct Inection cleaning is a major service to be performed every 90k at a minimum. Kind of like a timing belt except the DI de-caking can happen as early as 25k miles depending on driving habits.

@wretchedrider21573 жыл бұрын
@@everycarSeattle All good in the hood, just having a conversation! You can definitely find RWD examples for (just) under 20k like the one you linked to. The problem with DI motors is that there really is no fix for them. The link you provided explains that yes, DI clogs the intakes but it fails to say what their techs do in terms of maintenance to prevent this clogging from occuring. That's because, sadly, there's no single product you can buy to fix nor as preventative maintenance to avoid the buildup. You have to physically remove the manifold and either scrape using a pinhole camera as your guide, or utilize a walnut/media blaster to get rid of the buildup. Like most technological "advances" to the automobile, it's a great idea but somehow the long-term problems are rarely thought through. Rather, they're considered and then just put into production and passed on as a cost for the consumer to digest rather than build the most reliable vehicle possible for the best price like Japanese manufacturers did for most of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Today's (American) consumer, however, burns through vehicles at a nearly bi-annual rate, rather than hanging onto them for a decade or more. I know because I used to be that very wasteful consumer! Haha. I'll keep my chain drive, port injection Toyota where my biggest preventative maintenance cost is an Aisin transmission flush every 30k-50k miles (costs you about 129-199 at the Toyota dealer... Hello Joe, great video. Question: What is your opinion on a 2015 Nissan Armada Platinum with 44k miles priced at $21k ? I currently drive a 2012 Pathfinder S with 140k miles and an aftermarket 2" lift. I love the Pathfinder but the seats are not comfortable for long trips. Also, since it is a "S" trim, the seats are not adjustable.

The Armada and the Patrol are offered only with the V8 gasoline engine for the entire world. The Y61 was retired I believe in 2016 with the last model with a diesel option. All Armadas, QX80's and Patrol's are all gasoline moving forward and eventually will be phased out for everything electrical. Great vehicle though. Love the Armada!

Patrol y61 is still sold in middle east gasoline version. In Europe last y61 was sold somewhere in 2008/09. I think there is no big difference in fuel consuption in comparison with gasoline patrol and diesel land cruiser. Thats the reason why there is no diesel.

I've heard that the 2004-2015 first generation Armada are notorious for having catalytic converter issues which can lead to engine problems. Is this true and are there any pointers you may have for a potential new owner such as myself?
@CuttinInIdaho2 жыл бұрын
So you can get headers on eBay for 300 bucks. Have a muffler shop weld straight pipe the same length as the catalytic converter with a flange at the end to bolt it up. Then on your rear o2 sensors, install a sparkplug non fouled up to 3. This will prevent the check engine light from coming on. That is of course if you dont have emissions for it. Walter, I have always known the day would come where the S2000 went nuts and that day is officially upon us. If you can find a reasonably priced S2000, any color, any year, it is worth it's weight in gold and only going up. One of the most special cars of our generation and one of the 20 most important sports cars of all time. That AP2 should be closer to 26000 however. 34000 is for miles in the high 30's. Bring a Trailer has an original S2000 with only 37 miles...anything under 60 grand is a steal on that car. bringatrailer.com/listing/2000-honda-s2000-96/

I just bought a used 2017 Platinum, one owner, for $32k. It's looks immaculate but has more quirks and bugs than a little bit. It was purchased at an Audi dealership here in Louisiana and has had problems within the first week. I have an appointment at the Nissan dealership next Tuesday (Oct12th). I've also contacted Nissan consumer relations to see what can be done about the problems. Hopefully I won't have to pay too much. Here are a few of the problems I've had so far. #1 Sometimes it won't start. (brake pedal switch/sensor) #2 randomly engages the brakes by itself (cruise control sensor). VERY scary! #3 transmission shifts incorrectly sometimes (needs to be flashed) choses incorrect gear. #4 all the dash lights do not light up. Luckily, I purchased an extended warranty. Not exactly what I was expecting with a newer car purchase.

The Audi Q7 provides unparalleled comfort even when traveling in the field, and the adjustable chassis allows you to increase ground clearance if needed. The Quatro drive is a proven trouble-free drive and the 4.2 Tdi has no recurring known defects. On the road, the comfort of the Q7 will be even more noticeable. The Armada provides significantly more space than the Q7, but has an outdated interior and engine with high consumption and low power. Armada has frequent and recurring defects, the brakes and transmissions initial wiring problems have already been eliminated
