Can you also do the bottom tray the same way as the rest of the clay pot? And then seal it so its water proof on the outside of the pot and the clay bottom with clear water proof spray? They surely will! Once you get the fabric sealed, it will be just fine. There are a few different types of mod podge that are waterproof, so it'll be just fine for real plants :D
