Please keep making these videos. I really enjoy the way you explain & have a sense of humor about things. I just got a "trial" job with a dentist. I have not had schooling so these basic explanations are perfect for me. Yeah, I don't know why he's hiring someone without training either but I am going to do my best and you're really a lot of help. He's not paying a lot of course but it's like DA training & making a little money while I'm learning.

That’s awesome! You’ll do great. Just ask a lot of questions and be eager to learn. A lot of dentists prefer an assistant straight out of school because they can train them there way. 😄

@@CheyenneBuckalew I am older so I think he's trained a lot of young girls and then they move on. If I get this down I won't leave. I have medical experience so that is helping. Thanks for the encouragement.

Sometimes dentists will hire and train someone who is new to the trade so they can teach them exactly what they like, and since the trainee has so much loyalty, they won’t leave the practice!

@@tofusouppable You are correct on that. I am 53 so it's very hard to find an employer that will hire & train you with no experience. I would definitely stay with a dentist that would give me the opportunity. I am not young & thinking of climbing any ladders. :)

Yes Ive been assisting for a year now but I’m in pediatrics and we use this thing called isolite which sits in their mouth and helps suck up the water so we don’t have to use the Hve (except for when we get the etch or just doing something w/out using it ) but time to time we still use and when we do iv sedation we cant use isolite so I use the Hve a lot and sometimes I feel like I get in their way especially when my dr is on my side and sometimes she’ll move me closer but then I don’t wanna bump her lol

Your suction will be on the same side as the hand handpiece. Retract the cheek with the suction so you are not in the way (if they are doing linguals you should be golden no need to retract). If there is a buccal restoration, place the suction out of the way of the hand piece.Use your judgment. I hope this helps guys!!

I feel like the two main things that go through my mind when suctioning is moisture control and making sure water is not splashing everywhere. Another thing if the dentist is removing amalgam filling or polishing I’ll try to place the suction right beneath to collect as much material as possible to minimize any mess that may stay in a patient’s mouth or prevent them from swallowing any of the material

Hey. I am new to dental assisting, week 2. Do you have any tricks for positioning your wrist while suctioning? Or know of any good videos you can link? I am finding this extremely difficult. Especially since we didn't spend much time on suctioning in school.

Thanks for the videos! I wonder if preoperative instructions are important too? I know that our teacher told us that if "we're " able to foresee anything beforehand that's what a Dentist likes. Should assistants look into a union? I'd like to see a video on instruments though can see how limited that is outside an office. Thanks again! :)

I really like your videos, don’t get me wrong. But a lot of the things you say aren’t correct. And not just like opinion based things but like that “hole” on the HVE is a bevel. I feel like that’s the first thing I learned in school.

@Lisa_L
@Lisa_L 3 жыл бұрын
No one likes a know it all?? Its not about 'using normal words', the information is wrong. The hole on the HVE tip is to prevent the tongue or the cheek from getting stuck into the suction. It is like a relief valve so you can pull the suction off of the tissue without creating a suction bruise.

The hole is not actually a bevel. The bevel refers to the angled end. The hole is a vent for airflow. 🤓
