Summary of the video with a focus on actionable advice & gathered insights Macbook Usage 1. Use your MacBook on a hard, flat surface to prevent overheating and damage to the device. 2. Do not sleep with your MacBook to prevent crushing it. Temperature 1. Avoid exposing your MacBook to direct sunlight or high temperatures to prevent overheating and damage to the device. 2. Keep your MacBook in proper conditions, with a recommended temperature range of 10 to 35 degrees Celsius, to maintain its performance and prevent battery damage. Macbook Maintenance 1. Use your MacBook on a surface that does not collect dust to prevent overheating. 2. Regularly clean the dust from your MacBook to prevent overheating. Performance 1. Overheating can cause damage to the components of the device, such as the CPU, and decrease in performance. 2. The CPU will lower its maximum frequency when the MacBook is placed on a soft surface and overheats in order to maintain an adequate temperature range. This process is called throttling.

And i have my dads PowerBook G3, which he bought new in 2000, here on my desk, fully working, ok, i had to replace consumeable parts like the screen, keyboard, dvd drive and battery, but the laptop still works fine, after 22 years! If you take care of your devices, they last indeed much longer! I love old and new tech, my 2012 retina still works perfectly fine with it's original battery, it has a whopping 750 cycles, yet i still have 93 percent of it's designed capacity, getting me through a day of work when i turn the screen brightness down a bit, insane right? The oldest machine i have is my dad's old Toshiba Satellite 4300 pro from 1998! Yes, a late 90's machine still working flawlessly, it even runs for 15 minutes on the original battery! It's true that we shouldn't charge any Apple device with cheap chargers. It only affects the machine. Had a battery bulge for my iPhone 7 long back and the reason was this. And from then on I started using either Apple's or Apple certified chargers. Great video. Very helpful! Thank you!
@quickdry3
@quickdry3 2 жыл бұрын
the phone doesn't just blindly allow whatever your charger spits out into your phone, it goes through a BMS that regulates the charge rate so it is suitable fior the battery, boosts or limits charge rate based on cell temperature, voltage, etc. Sometimes you just get a really bad cell and it'll prematurely swell or die. Poorly made chargers might die sooner, or have unsafe failure modes eg failing in a way that dumped AC or excessive voltages onto the circuit that goes to the iPhone, but in general, so long as they supply roughly 5V the rest is up to the BMS.

I can testify that I’ve used super cheap Amazon chargers on my iPhone and iPad for 4 and 6 years respectively with no issue, the battery life on both are going strong and they perform well. I bought spare chargers so there’s always one on my desk, one by my bed and one in the living room to save carrying cables everywhere. If 98% of people will be satisfied with an apple charger, 80-90% will still be absolutely fine with budget versions but there’s definitely a higher chance of issue.

on my laptop, I always try to learn how the temperatures react to different tasks. For example, I know that web browsing on my m1 max 16 doesn't make the system very hot, so I know that the fans don't turn on and for that reason I'm comfortable using it on my bed for basic tasks. However, if I know I'm going to be doing something intensive, like rendering or gaming, and know that the fans will be running, I never do it in bed, and will always put it on a flat desk surface or at the very least on my lap being mindful not to block the vents.

@@redi08 Still be careful, that’s for shipping, not for using full time. Think about it. The more you open and close the laptop, the more the hinges adjust, and the more you use the keyboard the more the keys adjust based upon the pressure and wearing out of the keys. It’s not supposed to have that piece of paper except for when it is brand new and factory sealed, before any wear and tear or flexing has occurred. Once you start to use it you are trying to insert factory packaging into a machine that is slowly adjusting its shape and its fit, and it’s not designed for you to do that at all. So it might work out, until one day you go to open it and the glass shatters and falls out. It’s not worth the risk with the cost they sell it for.

However, as a general rule you should always have 10-15Gb free on your hard drive to give the OS some "breathing room". The USB hub thing isn't true either, and neither are the cables. Unless you're going for the extremely cheap Aliexpress or Wish knock-off you should be okay, your phone and your computer are equipped to deal with small voltage variations and even peaks of electric power. I'm using a T (an adapter) that I bought at one of those hardware stores. What do you recommend I do? I've already checked on Apple's website to see if they sell the type C plug separately, so I could just plug it in. Just a little thinking about the battery (and the way i did great since i got the 2021 16"): What about using AlDente if the battery is literally "too big" for you? Im using mainly 50-70% charge limit. Often im charging up to 80% and then use the Mac on AC/mobile mixed with a lower limit set (and let it drain to for example 30-40% over multiple days) Only about 2 times a month or when i really need/want a full charge im doing so for proper balancing of the cells here and then. Im already at 140 charging cycles with 100% battery health left (according to Mac OS, coconot battery say 99,5%). Seems like this works out especially with the incredible huge 16" models battery. What annoys me the most... with HDR used outside especially in warm enviroment... the bottom part of the screen gets HOT AF. i literally need to spin up the fans manuelly to cool the display unit when working outdoors while enjoying the bright screen. I completely understand why Apple didnt allow HDR brightness for desktop usage until MiniLED gets more efficient/less heating and it makes the app "Vivid" for unlocking HDR everywhere a bit useless for me since i still often stick to normal max brightness bcause of the heating panels issue. As fancy the XDR studio displays back looks, it has good reasons to exist for proper cooling

I only ever use it once in a while, and always left it attached to my iPad over the last 3 years, and now I see that it drains very quickly when in use. Don’t store the pencil attached to the iPad. Only attach it when it needs to be charged and set it off to the side when not in use, and even better, unpair it as well…

@@HistoryNut-1701 this largely depends on if the device has a battery bypass. While I can't speak to the engineering, I have to assume that MacBooks bypass the battery when plugged in. To say that using your laptop while plugged in is bad for the battery is Very concerning, considering that many people use their laptops as a desktop replacement. Are we to suggest to these people that they should keep unplugging and replugging their MacBook to juggle the battery life between 20 and 80%? All the while, dumping charge cycle after charge cycle onto their battery? That sounds quite a bit more detrimental than just leaving it plugged in.
@HistoryNut-1701
@HistoryNut-1701 Жыл бұрын
@@a1be31s8x9 I agree. MacBooks have a battery protocol built into them that recognizes when they are being used in that fashion and limits the charge to 80% unless you override it. In my case, I use a big iPad Pro with the proprietary keyboard and trackpad as my primary computer, and it does not have that protocol, so I am iffy on whether or not to keep it plugged in all the time, because I do not want to degrade the battery chemistry by keeping it at maximum charge all the time.

The smoking tip is spot on. Yes, I’m a smoker, but not tobacco ;) Definitely there was a “film” of residue much like cigarette tar over my fans and other components. Easy to clean using ISO and some down time, many Q tips… My uncle’s air conditioner was broken one day, and the technician knew exactly why - filter and condenser was caked in tar. I think a solution for this would be an air filter / purifier. Not too expensive, pretty quiet and really helps get rid of stinky air in a room. Although, as a smoker, filters would need to be replaced every 6 months at least, I imagine.

So what is the best way to clean the dust out of the fan if I am not a 'techy' kind of person? Is it easy to open the back up without destroying anything and do you spray the dust with a spray can or do you use a vacuum to clean it out? Can you vacuum the side ports if not opened up? Thank you in advance!

I have an acer gaming laptop and i definitely did almost every thing you say not to do in this video and it's still a beast without problem. CPU temp max 50 degree with definitely high CPU usage :D I guess gaming laptops are still a better option in 2023

damn man you just made me scared of doing anything with the laptop I bought... no carrying no using on the bed or in the lap (even though it's a lap-top but still not for the lap) don't drink anything don't have anything dirty around it, don't have food around it don't have drinks around it... So basically leave it at your desk which is being cleaned every week an don't have anything around it. Oh and if you thought you can use it in a caffee shop better not 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 All in all good video man.

I've owned my 13" MacBook Pro M1since 2021, and my battery health is at 93% and I'm sad about it lol, I feel like that's too much depletion for only two years of owning it. No smoke around my computer, and I keep it on a little lap desk that has a hard service. However the charger is plugged into a little power strip underneath my bed, so I wonder if that effects my computer's battery???

It doesn't matter what kind of surface the Macbook is on. The fans take in air that is then pushed through the internals. It will pull dust from the air and through your MB. This is how every computer works. Most modern desktops (especially gaming rigs) are set up like cabinets that can be opened and air dusted. Macbooks don't have this, and thus will experience throttling within their lifetimes more often. These are not designed to be end user serviceable. If you have an issue, take it to a store. That comes with the territory of owning an Apple Laptop.

Macbook Air cools down by using its metal body, if you place it on a soft surface you might trap the heat. So it will also throttle when placed on a soft surface

True, do not use other/3rd party charging adaptor or cables to charge your IPAD, Macbook or Iphones. Only use original Apple Charging adaptor and cable. Ive use 3rd party charging adaptor (U-Green), charging is very fast, slightly produce heat on my phone if only i use it when i charge with it. But my battery health drops to 89% just in 10months (without over-night charging or overcharge it). at the other hand, my brother are using the original Apple charging adaptor and cables, his iphone batteries health is still maintain at 96% in 10months (we bought the iphone 13pro same day). For my advise, don't use any 3rd party charging adaptor and cables if you really really want your battery to live longer. Of course there are many other way to kill your battery, but this is one of it, using 3rd party charger.

Apple makes such fragile pieces of glass nowadays. My iPad 3 from 2015 still works even after being dropped in a bucket of mop water and having a cracked screen. Sure, it has dented corners and the digitizer doesn’t work, but at least it’s still alive.
