A basic rule of psychology: repeating mistakes teaches mistakes. Fortunately you repeat the correct forms more times than you speak the errors, so net net you're OK. Your presenter is absolutely first class.

I think we just need to practice a ton to make the feel natural like english. I was thinking about memorizing all of these rules and realized I just need to get used to them. For example in english we can word things in many ways. Like the sentence He worked for IBM last year. It can be worded like "Last year he worked for IBM." or "He was working at IBM last year." I don't think in grammar rules to write that; it just comes out. Practice and constant repetition is the only way to get this way with another language.

@@TheDavidlloydjones Of course there is no thing such as a "valid mistake". Thank you for highlighting it. Also, thank you for capturing the spirit of my comment, great addition from your side!

@@TheoCJnr My more serious criticism was my disagreement with your puppyish "consistently top class content." This school have consistently fine production values (no echos, appropriate lettering, etc.) and fine presenters with clear enunciation and sound English. "These are mistakes you should avoid," however, is a well studied error in pedagogy. Net net, it spreads, doesn't correct, errors.

watch cartoons with chinese subtitles, when you can handle that, watch series or tv shows, then news and maybe documentries. It's by far the best way because you get varied language input, dialects, speed and get a lot of comprehensive input

if u r living in China, listen to Chinese music through QQmusic or Netease music app. almost every song has lyrics translated to Chinese. also, listen to some Chinese music, watch Chinese movies, watch videos on Douyin... etc nevertheless, make Chinese friends and try to practice with them!! best of luck ^_^
@yuzheng78324 жыл бұрын
Valentin K Njobvu Unlike English, almost every word in a sentence matters in Chinese. So you have to get familiar with our common words and speaking patterns. Watching Chinese TV shows may not be enough bc the words and speaking habits in TV shows are sometimes weird if applied to daily interpersonal communication. I recommend you use Blibli, the Chinese version of KZbin, where you can find Chinese natural speaking pattern. For me to enhance listening skills when learning English, I watch tons of American TV shows and watch videos on KZbin.

At 9:23, could I say 謝謝你的幫忙 ? Is that appropriate? I feel like I have heard it said like this before, and I have said it like this as well. How does it differ from 謝謝你給我幫忙 ? And is the difference significant?
@mountaintag4 жыл бұрын
I think that 谢谢你的帮忙 is not good, because 帮忙 is a verb. I think that 谢谢你的帮助 is better because 帮助 is a noun.
@Sumner184 жыл бұрын
@@mountaintag Okay, that works. I think I have heard it both ways, but 幫助 makes more sense there. Thanks!
@Kotsuyosama4 жыл бұрын
Sumner Losenn You can also say “多谢帮忙” cuz in spoken Chinese, we usually elide “你” if there are just speaker and listener in the conversation. BTW, it's better not to use “给我... ” as that give the sense of commanding😂,in formal occasions you can say “感谢/多谢/谢谢你(大家)的帮助”
@choppyhappy48354 жыл бұрын
Sumner Losenn 谢谢你的帮忙 is appropriate .帮忙 can also be a noun ,refers to what others do for you.

@@hexagoner5746 Thank you for your response, but I was actually asking how to write the English expression 'someone somewhere doing something' in Chinese rather than enquiring about the word order. 也就是说: 'someone somewhere doing something' 这个词语汉语怎么说?
At 7:52 you translate 了解 as "to know", why not use 认识 instead?
@EverydayChinese4 жыл бұрын
When we are familiar with someone, we probably know him/her for a period of time, or maybe a long time, in this case, we should use "了解". “认识” means I met someone before. However, in this sentence, "I just heard of him", which implies that I didn't meet him before, so “I don't know him. 我不了解他“.

The last two examples are not good. Even in English, you have to add 'piece', 'cup', 'pair' for some nouns. I don't think learners would make them wrong. You should use examples without measure words at all.
