I’ve had a technician come out and change the panels on my stainless steel fridge because it got scratched once. And I was using stainless steel product to clean it. They told me a secret. Those suck and don’t work. They said the best thing to use for stainless steel is wood cleaner. Like pledge wood cleaner. Or wood furniture polish the one that sprays out like foam not the oil kind. And do it with a micro towel. I use that on all my appliances at home and it coats it and comes out spotless. But you have to go with the grain of the stainless steel. Try that on a section. All my stainless steel in my kitchen is spotless and that’s what I use.

This is a great video, well done. The challenge with the products you are using is they are Stainless steel "cleaners" NOT "rust removers" specifically for stainless steel. Innoshine B570 by Clean My Steel is specifically made for Stainless Steel Rust Removal. The product gets under the rust lifts it out and that gives an opportunity for the Stainless Steel to "heal" itself as you mentioned about the Chromium in the video. All the other products just wipe away the top layer of the rust. Even water can do that. You've got to get under the rust a remove it permanently!

That 300 grade means, that the steel is containing nickel, chromium and molybdenum, which should give some acid resistance. These steels are not famous of hardness or scratch restance. You can use Scotts Brite to scratch those. It is also troughout same material, so the corrosion resistance will not change if you scratch it.

Nice video! I like how you restored the finish after messing it up. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on why not to coat the cybertruck with a ceramic coating to help make it easier to clean. And they are suggesting to ppf instead. 300 series stainless is fairly resistant to corrosion, but not corrosion proof. It's probably wise to remove any surface corrosion before it contaminates the steel under the passivated layer. While 300 series stainless can be pretty durable, as in resistant to fracturing, it's not particularly hard, which means it could scratch easily. ANY abrasive in Barkeeper's Friend can produce fine scratches, not to mention contaminated sponges/washcloths, etc. Also, despite the durability, this type of steel work hardens, and can be stubborn to fix dents because of this characteristic. I have mixed feelings about raw stainless exterior. It's novel, and has some nice properties, but I tend to think it's probably more finicky than paint. And the few cybertrucks I've seen around town seem to have a weird splotchy appearance. Maybe they were just dirty, but it wasn't what I'd call good looking.
@keyboardrambo6 ай бұрын
And here I thought stainless steel was chosen because it is rust and hassle free. But it is just as vulnerable as the traditional finishes, just looking way worse and costing much more.

Pro tip - if the stainless steel is damaged by Barkeep's friend, it's junk level stainless steel and either Elon knows this or his suppliers are lying to him. I can get a perfect finish with the stuff on almost everything, but this getting damaged by even a microfiber cloth? Trash tier materials for sure. EDIT - 301 stainless steel is known for its strength, ease of tooling, low cost (this is key!), and slightly better than average acid resistance. But it's nearly as soft as pure iron and scratches incredibly easily. Most cookware is made out of the stuff for this reason as nobody cares if the inside of your pan is scratched.
@EverydayChris6 ай бұрын
I knew it.. there's no way bkf should be scratching REAL stainless steel THAT easy
@plektosgaming6 ай бұрын
@@EverydayChris The reason they use it for cooking is because you can safely cook things like pasta sauce in it, and in this application, it's acid rain resistant as well as, say, resistant to bird droppings. Except - it's soft. So you can't hardly use anything other than a microfiber towel and polish or wax on it. Ie - zero grit and some sort of silicone based cleaner from what I can tell. ie - Novus #1 or wood polish. lol. Seriously.. Elon elon elon... what a muppet. lol.

People start freaking out when they see iron deposits on a cybertruck but don’t talk about it on other vehicles 🤦♂️. It’s just easier to notice on reflective/bright surfaces vs. paint. It’s a problem on all vehicles especially since other vehicles around are producing iron air particles every time they brake.
