The XJ220 is what I think of when I think of a "supercar". It's virtually useless outside of travelling at extremely high speeds that are basically impossible to reach on public roads. The SR71 analogy is perfect. It's difficult and intimidating to drive as a "normal" car, but man is it ever striking to look at and wildly quick.

My son and I are just finishing a road trip inspired by Paul & Todd. Pikes Peak, the Million Dollar Highway and Gateway Canyon in Colorado. As we are sitting in the hotel watching this, laughing and reliving memories from this trip and our trip last year, we are so grateful for the freedom to get out and drive. As they said, get out and drive. You never know what you might find, from a 30' tall dinosaur with glasses holding a Coke in Virginia, to power pole palm trees in South Dakota, there's the possibility of something funny or beautiful around every corner. We're already planning our next trip.

That's fantastic. Partner and I did a four day break up the North of Scotland in our Z4 Roadster. Amazing times. Loads of great roads, loads of random parking up at amazing views and random cafes. Less of a culture here for fibre glass dinosaurs and car henges but plenty of actual neolithic stone circles and standing stones to visit and the roads were amazing. You have to be willing to over take people because even in the spring there will campervans going quite slowly especially through the bends. We did end up behind a landrover diesel that we struggled to keep up with. That guy was on fire. I guess he was local and knew the roads but it was some amazing driving. Road tripping in the Scottish Highlands is amazing because the scenery can change so quickly. We're at the border of two tectonic plates so you can go from crazy mountains to flat moorlands within about ten miles. Also crazy elevation shifts in just a few miles. The weather is also incredibly changeable due to the rapid elevation changes. Don't underestimate beauty of hard rain on a Scottish mountain. It has it's own wild beauty. Luv and Peace.

Just took my 1981 911SC on "One Lap of America" 7000 mile road trip, wife and I celebrating our 35th wedding Anniversary by driving 200 miles for each year we have been together. Out of this world adventure and would do it again.... will do it again, soon. Converted to R134 last year and we averaged 23 mpg running the AC at an alleged 80 mph average, epic. The 500 miles per day avg. is a good plan and we did a few 600 mile plus days in the west to make up for shorter miles in the east. Your trip is all about America and I must thank my father and mother for being just crazy enough to take my brother, sister and I on our first "One Lap of America" back if 1960, pre interstates. Pittsburgh PA to California and back, southern route on US 40 and US 66 and northern route back through Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota. Two lane roads, small and large town America, no chain restaurants, except the mandatory stops at A&W for the root beer. Can't wait to head out on the next adventure, 911's ready, get out there and be nice to someone. Say hello, please and thank you and talk to people, we're all in this adventure together. Glad to see you putting you and your cars through the paces, the stories will last a life time. Mine have. Be well.

This video is a road trip masterpiece. I think everybody remembers their first real road trip with friends. Mine was from northern NY down to southern FL on a Yamaha R1 with a group of 5 other friends. Highway blasts, carving backroads and mountain passes like tail of the dragon, hiding from rain under overpasses, $5 plates at hole-in-the-wall diners. There’s just a feeling that comes with these trips that can’t be experienced on a single day drive or ride. The feeling of waking up and mentally preparing for another long days ride and taking in the scenery. Great video guys. Thanks for the nostalgia. I’ve actually been fortunate enough to drive a mildly modded 300zx tt AND am LS swapped 928 restomod. The 928 with the added power, upgraded trans and suspension and exhaust sound made it a such a fun car. 450hp out of the 300z was simply a blast with the sound of a nismo exhaust and added boost. I’d have a very hard time deciding which to keep in my garage. That XJ220 was a childhood dream car. From the time I first saw it in Gran Turismo, it was love at first sight. Even with it being wildly impractical, it’s been a bucket list car to drive just once. Btw, 93 octane is easier to find than 91 here on the east coast. Especially here in Florida as well as Georgia. 91 is almost non existent. We can even find 100 octane here, for over $10/gal 😂.
@usmcplu2 жыл бұрын
Todd, yes you should keep the 300ZX forever! It's a Z car (first of all) WITH LAMBORGHINI DIABLO HEADLIGHTS! When does that ever happen in life?! AND twin turbos, AND timeless styling, AND AC! If I can't be road-tripping on one of my 90s cars, then your channel is the next best thing. Keep it up. Lastly Paul, good work on the engine rebuild. I'm only half way through the video, but I trust all will be fine for the remainder.

Your "95" in the UK is equivalent to our 91. We use the RON+MON/2 measurement standard in the US. Your 98 is equivalent to about 93.5 in the US. Having 91 (US) as the max is a West Coast issue (for some reason); "premium" is typically 93 everywhere on the East Coast and much of the Midwest.

BTW, if you think you feel exposed and isolated in your cars while driving through nebraska, try it on a bicycle sometime. it'll take a week to get across. and you'll be spending five nights in a sleeping bag not far from the road trying to conceal yourself behind a couple 'a round bales. and shooing away curious coyotes (rhymes with 'buy boats') and cattle at night. :)

Damn you guys (not really)--every time you do a road trip video, it's so inspiring that I end up scheduling my own road trip despite the expense. Seriously, thanks for the always-great content and for reminding us how even in 2022, driving old-school ICE cars can be magical.

the way you say 'old-school ICE cars' makes it sound as if they are a thing of the past and we are all driving Tesla's The electric cars are still only a tiny percentage of the vehicles on the road and unless someone comes up with a new way of generating electricity that is the way it will stay.
