These smart home features are definitely cool, but people should think twice before adding too many, especially for things like entry access. The more data you send to company servers, the higher the risk of that information being hacked or compromised. At the end of the day, you’re putting a lot of trust in the company’s security team to protect your information and stay ahead of any vulnerabilities.

I just recently purchased the Video keypad and I was having problems with the door not opening or closing. I contacted Chamberlain and they advised that LED bulbs cause interference and caused the remote not to work. Chamberlain recommended Sylvania LED bulbs, model # 74765, 60 Watt bulbs. It solved my problem and so far no issues with remote.

Ditto - I get years out of the 9v and am usually surprised that it needs to be changed. 2 - 3 months is too frequent and especially having to charge the battery. Let’s do something about the battery life. Additionally the old keypads have a cover which really helps with UV damage to the keys. I’m wondering how these keys and camera will hold up in sunlight.

Agreed, MyQ abandoned the smart home community. They are seeking subscription revenue. Not that is a bad thing, but some of us want to disconnect from the cloud, buy once, and move on. Same reason why my Blink camera system has been replaced by Unifi. In the coming year I'll be researching replacements for MyQ. Until then, I'll use HA and my cameras to tell me the state of my garage door. (While hoping UI comes out with a garage door solution :) )

I have the old one, and it works well. It does support one time, or limited use pins. And in the app, it shows history. Besides the battery life issue, my main concern with this new one is there is no protective cover. I live in a sunny, hot location, and it eats up anything not covered.

Been using this for about 8 months now. Battery life, about two weeks. Unit is not near as good as MyQ cameras and misses a LOT of videos. Old skool is sometimes better. I have a newer door opener with MyQ, and the same standard outdoor keypad. The price of this video one is very reasonable. But a battery that might only last two months? Whether it’s this or electric cars, battery tech needs to get vastly better across the board.

It was -5 here in Minnesota the other day. Our doorknob lock from the interior of the house to the garage was stuck locked. Our wireless garage door keypad wouldn't open the garage either. We were locked out of our garage where all the tools are. We borrowed a screwdriver from the neighbor to take off the door knob but one screw was stripped. In frustration we started beating the doorknob with screwdriver handle and knocked the doorknob lock into the unlocked position. I'm looking into getting a wired garage door opener keypad.

I purchased the keypad about 2 months ago and I love it. The only complaint I have is the poor WiFi signal it receives from my home router. Good that it still works as a basic keypad with no internet, but I am so tired of "cloud connected" devices. I want to own my data, integrate the device into my home control systems, and not be reliant on some third party company being able to brick it over the air (looking at you, Sonos). One question is does it only record video when a PIN is used, or when someone approaches the keypad? I could look on their website to find out, but I'm not THAT interested.

The expiring pin code would be handy for if we ever had say a contractor or babysitter or something like that. But while we almost exclusively use our garage for access we almost never use the outdoor keypad. The keypad is solely for visitors that dont have an opener in their vehicle. So maybe useful for some people but a standard opener is just fine for us. I will say our old opener i only had to hit the enter button to close the door but our new one does require the pin plus the enter key to close it. So thats kind of annoying the 3 or 4 times a year that i actually use the outdoor keypad.

Maybe if it was powered (or even charged) by the wires currently wired to my keypad... Until then I will just stick with my Ring cameras. Also, It needs to allow the owner to go back and see the video without subscription for at least 7-30 days. I should be able to see who entered my garage even if I miss the live notification.

Btw, the battery in my pin pad is generally good for two years. 😀

I have that same keypad. It takes 3-5 tries to open the garage door. 😂

Recharging is a deal breaker. I'll stick with my old one (my 6yo Liftmaster has remote open/close capability built in).

Just checked the Chamberlain web site. Price is $49.95 now. Also the website claims it will only control one opener. Not practical for someone with 2 doors….

Love the channel and have benefited from watching your videos many times over, however I have to thumb down any video with a Chamberlain product in it. They are anti-consumer, and unsupportive (and indeed antagonistic) of developers in the open home and automation community. This is likely not something you knew about before posting this as it's not always in the mainstream news, but I would encourage you to look into the recent history of actions taken by Chamberlain against people who have been using their products and their APIs.

That's fine and all but many many of us have Chamberlain garage door openers so we like to hear upgrades and options available for what we currently own

They need to make one without the camera and have a better battery.
