Absolutely not a fail. BTW, if you ever want to set yourself the most ridiculous food challenge in England just for fun, try a stargazey pie in Cornwall. It’s only served one day a year (23 Dec) in the pub in Mousehole, Cornwall, and it’s a sardine/pilchard pie with the fishes’ heads sticking out gazing at you!

Hi from Los Angeles! 🙋♀️ Not a fail! Your phone worked on the first try, you had a tasty meal. Though not technically a true hot pot, still had the labelling as such, so it counts a treasure hunt win! To complete the odyssey, maybe you should have taken the Manchester Tart to Manchester, and eaten it there 😁. Another wonderful upload! Thank you!

Another great video from this channel. It definitely wasn't a FAIL for me. I enjoyed every minute of it. Preston seemed like a great place to visit even without a Lancashire Hot Pot. The pot pie you purchased instead looked tasty. Not bad for under £3. Thanks!

I don't think that was so much a hot pot as a pot pie. Amazing that you just came across the elusive Manchester Tart by accident. Once again your dedication and perseverance are second to none.

Growing up me Mam made the best Lancashire hot pot. It’s something I make for my Dad on the regular now she’s passed. It definitely feels like it’s more a home cooked thing these days. People are more interested in other cuisines these days.. burgers, Indian, Chinese etc… Lancashire hot pot is a relatively old fashioned dish these days. Shame because it’s such a hearty & delicious dish. Sorry you had such a palavar… traditional hot pot only has the crust on top or has sliced potatoes, so in that regard, the ‘pie’ you got was traditional. Glad you finally got your Manchester tart ❤️ appreciate all your efforts in these vlogs☺️
@keithsowerby81794 ай бұрын
It’s not even a no-traditional hot pot; it’s a double crust potato pie. A hot pot can’t be purchased in a pie shop, but usually in a high end pub or restaurant such as Northcore in Langho. The basic hot pot consist of an open pot slow cooked in the oven with thick cut potatoes, lamb or mutton chops (usually best end of neck-pre browned) In the South of Lancashire lambs kidneys were often added, and historically, when they were cheap, oysters. Some maintain the barely acceptable heresy of adding carrots. A similar dish in the Lakes is called Tatie Pit. LHP bears no resemblance to Scouse, cawl, Irish stew or anything that has touched pastry. Most hot pot is cooked in the home

Another very interesting and enjoyable video. I'm a Leeds lad and adore Lancashire hotpot. Luckily it's really easy to make at home, is cheap and so tasty. Freezes well also. Shame that it's not properly available in Preston. No potato & thyme topping! Keep up the good work. I am very fussy about fish and chips but think I have found my favourite place, The Dolphin at Drighlington. Worth a trip.

Never forget that "poor folks" (most British fast food) has no fixed recipe, but Lancashire Hotpot is basically mutton and potatoes (sliced on top) and whatcver else is in the larder or whatever your mother made...

I know I sound like a parrot, but you need to go to Bury market. Lancashire hot pots, rag puddings, Manchester tarts, black puddings (sold piping hot on a stall). And Cissy Greens pies, wait till you taste one of those. Love your vids, thanks for the channel.

Lancashire hotpot has its origins nearly 200 years ago as a dish of poor textile workers who would put this on the hob before work, eating it when they came home. It is best slow cooked, and since the recipe is so simple, technique matters here, similar to beer braised short ribs.

Should have gone to Chorley mate. Remember though, Lancashire hot pot comes in different ways! Some do a pie crust and some people like the layered potatoes. But to me, a hot pot should always have lamb. That's expensive now so beef tends to get used as a replacement.

A definite win for your viewers, A great video, two birds with one stone, so to speak, a Manchester tart and a beef hotpot. Hotpot, made with neck-of-lamb was a frequent supper when I was a kid (in Nottinghamshire), it was swimming in lamb fat, mostly bones, disgusting. I hated it, but it was packed with flavour. I don't like lamb to this day.

I say you broke even with this one. No authentic hotpot, though a decent at best substitute with pie crust on top and you managed to redeem the miss from Manchester by scoring the Manchester tart here! It looked really good! You always manage to try to make the most out of each mission. Maybe by travelling on coach instead of train with the money saved, you can take an Uber straight from the station to the recommended spot you search on google and call them ahead to see if they have the item you're seeking. Cheers, mate!
