My mother used to make the hotpot with mutton - much cheaper than lamb and more suited for prudent northern pockets. Lamb was relatively expensive and too extravagant for serving in a stew. A very enjoyable video of Manchester; well filmed and narrated.

Glad you found a decent Lancashire Hotpot , not really surprising you found one in Manchester as a lot of outlying towns were originally Lancashire towns pre 1974 before boundaries were reshuffled and these towns reluctantly joined Greater Manchester , to this day I consider myself a Lancastrian and find it offensive anyone should consider myself a Mancunian as I never go near the place. Great vlog as always 👍

My Mum made a killer Lancashire hotpot & you just cannot have it without pickled red cabbage. That looked absolutely delicious 😋 love that someone from Corrie opened up that place & called it Annie’s after the original landlady at the Rovers. Glad you were able to get on the next train no bother. Another great vlog ☺️

That hotpot looked so delicious🥘😋 and that library was magnificent.🙂📚 As for the trains, yes I agree, they should study the countries that get it right. It happened to me recently and I had to wait another hour for the next one. Sat in the station pub, some stations don't have pubs though so I was lucky there I suppose. At least you had an empty train on your journey out.🙂

I just knew your search for a true Lancashire Hot pot would end up having a Coronation Street connection. Could the restaurant be named after the original (when the show started) Landlady of the Rovers - Annie Walker? Fizz (The restaurant's owner - Jennie McAlpine) never met her but tales of her are often retold in various episodes. I am on the west coast of Canada and I've never been to the UK. However, each Sunday I watch the omnibus of the week's episodes (usually a month behind) on our National TV station and I am transported to Weatherfield. Through your channel I have a similar experience with many locations in Great Britain. Thanx

For a great Manchester Tart, you need to go to Bury Market, voted the best outdoor market in the UK. So when next in Manchester, jump on a tram from Victoria to Bury! You won't be disappointed. Great video, by the way!

Yes it looked very tasty and the thick gravy and meat looked amazing a bit expensive though but worth it.Yes i do think the train reliability and service has been lacking for as long as i can remember. Hi from Warm Los Angeles! 🙋♀️ Unlike your city, we're in another heatwave here. That hot pot looked like just what you need after being ill. Thank goodness, the train situation worked out in the end. A successful adventure. A cracking hot pot and a bit of culture at the library. Pity our crumbling train infrastructure spoilt your trip back to Leeds. The Swiss train service is on a totally different level, clean and efficient. Unfortunately, since privatisation our rolling stock and tracks haven't been given the financial support they need to operate properly.

This is an artisan version of the working man's hotpot of yesteryear. Hotpot was a regular dish served for school dinner and it was a watery version with no thickening in the gravy. The dish was made to get the taste of lamb/mutton into a whole variety of cheap vegetables and gravy. There was never much meat, usually just a couple of small lamb cutlets which in a working man's family the children never got to eat. Just like beef roasts and Yorkshire pudding, and the suet spotted dick served with gravy. I have to admit, it did look good. Was the pickled red cabbage warmed though or served cold? Thanks for taking us along on your food journeys, even if the trains are rubbish. The train ticket price was very reasonable.

I can only comment from my point of view as a commuter in to London every day of the week, my particular service has been been top notch for the last 5 years or so (hope that comment doesn't jinx it for me now!). It does seem, however, that services outside of the greater London area suffer a stupidly high number of delays and cancellations. If less than 90% of the scheduled services aren't running on time then the operator is doing something wrong and should probably be replaced.

The restaurant looked very swish, and a great place to eat, right near the Theatre. Your meal looked delicious too. Glad you're feeling better. 👍🥰 I completely agree it's unacceptable about the Train Service, but it's the same as everything in this godforsaken country, we're at the mercy of corrupt politicians who have sold us and our essential services down the river to the highest bidder. Instead of being seen as a vital Transport Network the public need to run a country efficiently, they waste billions abroad. A disgrace. But who do we vote for? They're all the same! 😢
@Jimmy-j1xАй бұрын
I'll tell you why we don't have efficient railways in the UK...we'd/Governments would rather spend our money on £7m-a-day illegals bills, and foreign aid to the tune of £15bn...then claim we have a 'huge economic black hole'! That meal looked nice...restaurant owned by Jennie McAlpine (Coronotion Street's "Fiz"). Sorry to hear you were unwell and I'm glad you're feeling better ;o)

It's decades of under investment in railway infrastructure that causes "rubbish railways". HS2 was a glimmer of hope for investment, but is now cancelled. Also, looking like transpennine upgrade will now be scaled back.

If you think the trains are bad now you should see how bad they were when they were nationalised. Comparing an over populated little country like England with 57 million people to Switzerland with 8 million is a bit daft.
