I live here in hull and have since been born 37 years, the pattie tastes different in nearly all fish and chip shops, i think the best pattie is from Big T's in Sutton fields next to b&m, as for Princes Quay it used to be very busy and popular until st stephens got built then princes quay and old town slowly started declining then covid hit and with the cost of living now alot of shops shut as they just can not afford to keep running with the rise of rent and also alot more people doing online shopping.

Hull is definitely a city I'd like to visit after watching this video. That pattie looked really tasty and I would probably opt for the gravy as it would go well with the mashed potato and sage and onion stuffing. Unfortunately, many city centres in the UK are quiet these days and shopping malls no longer appeal so I'm not surprised that many of the units had closed down. It seems to be the same story up and down the country. Yes, please take a ferry trip from Hull although I would highly recommend a cabin on the way back.

This was a fun video, it popped up in my recommends. I'm glad you enjoyed your day here in Hull. That shopping centre is in the middle of one of the old commercial docks, Princes Dock (hence the name Princes Quay). It was opened around 1990. Since then the hip and trendy shops have moved to the newer St. Stephens, which is next door to the interchange. The marina and Queens Gardens occupy the site of two other former commercial docks. You won't be able to get to mainland Europe and back in a day. The ferries run overnight, so you'd have to make a weekend of it for one or two days in Belgium or the Netherlands. In my younger days, before I was old enough to drink, I heard that people often used the overnight ferries as a venue for a night out (well, two), going over one night, coming back the next, and presumably sleeping off the effects when more sober travellers were enjoying the delights of Rotterdam or Zeebrugge. If you do come back and want to spend a bit longer here, there's the Old Town where you can visit the Minster and the (free) Museum Quarter. And another local foodstuff is the so-called American Chip Spice that some of the local fast food places put on the fries. That was invented here for a local (long gone) fast food chain called Yankeeburger, and I don't think it's yet made it outside the city.

Go back further than that, before Humber Bridge was built another ferry called Lincoln Castle used to leave the pier from the ‘osh wash’. Aptly named as that’s where they washed the horses in the Victorian era. In fact in the early 20th century Harry Houdini the escapologist did a barrel escape in the pier waters. My late grandparents went. It was around 1921.

He past Bob Carver’s before Goldenfry. The patties are lovely from there. I'm just not saying they are not lovely from there too. He past the blue plaque in the train station too. For The Spiders from Mars who used to leave from there to play for Ziggy Stardust aka David Bowie.

Glad you enjoyed it :), Cave Street Chippy is the best for the "Hull Pattie" in my opinion :) It is just a Pattie though, we don't go into a chip shop and say can I have a Hull Pattie and Chips please haha

Funny to see this as a Hull boi. A few points I'll make if you're interested (you might not be, but people in Hull love to talk about 'ull xD) That shopping centre, Princess Quay, it was once a very prominent location in the centre as you guessed. But 10-15 years ago or so, a newer shopping centre, St Stephens. opened right next to the station that you came out of, I was surprised to see you hadn't gone that way actually but I guess Google led you away from it on your pattie hunt lol, and I figure you didn't have time after your walk to the Marina on your way back. St Stephens though relatively quickly shifted most of the foot traffic towards that part of town and in turn away from both Princess Quay and Whitefriargate (the street you were looking down near the busker), that used to be the busiest part of the centre. But now, with St Stephens being in such a key location right next to the bus and train station, very few people actually venture further into town, as you yourself noticed. It's sad, there's a lot of worry for the future of the City Centre as a whole because most days are as you saw. It'll get a bit busier than that, but usually it only gets actually busy on warm summer Saturdays or if there's events on. If you compare pictures/videos of Hull taken from about 2005/6 to now, you'll see exactly what I mean about how the general foot traffic has shifted. I don't believe the intention of city planners at the time was to achieve this and I would love to know if they would do it again if they had that time back, because it certainly has damaged the health of the centre as a whole. As for the rest of it; you chose well although most fish shops are fine in Hull (it's the takeaways you need to be careful with), I was susprised you didn't mention The Deep museum when looking right at it, thought that was a guarantee that you would xD (unless you did and I missed it). But sadly you have already seen the city centre mainly, it's not that big. Of course there's things to go inside of like museums, the football stadium when there's a game on, the local hospital when a druggie smacks you for looking at him funny, but for the most part, that's about it. Certainly on the smaller side of major cities but in a weird sort of way, I wouldn't really change it.

That'll be lovely as a bar snack with a cold beer and something pickled...a gherkin or egg for example.

Humber Dock, the marina, then Prince's Dock, the shopping centre, and Queen' Dock, where the gardens are, were all developed from the old city moat between the Humber and the River Hull, a look at the map makes the geography all clear.

You can't do a day trip to the Netherlands from the ferry in Hull as they only sail in the evening! You can do a 'mini cruise', sail in the evening, spend the next day in Amsterdam or Rotterdam and sail back overnight, arriving back in Hull on the morning of the 3rd day. It's a great little trip, highly recommend a day out in Amsterdam. Nice hearty Dutch food - a lot of meat and dairy products!

Probably the best chippy in Ull (Hull) town centre that place. Either that one or Bob Carver's around the corner. A decent night out in Hull town centre as well. No hassle, pubs close together, friendly people and a rich history. Sure you get you're idiots and street drinkers in the town centre, but what city doesn't. Hull sometimes gets a bad press (usually by a southern journalist, who's never been there, desperate to fill a a column). People are always pleasantly surprised

Well that was interesting - who would have thought, battered mash? It's something I'd try in Hull, but would never have again. I've never been to Hull, and it gets a really bad rap, but as other people say, there's a lot of history, and interesting buildings there. Thanks for the review.

The memorial you saw is actually for all the people who died in the Hull Blitz. The plaques are the different families/households who died.

It’s just a “pattie” no Hull before, I had gone my entire life until like 18 and had never tried one, after I did, I realised I was 100% missing out. It is fantastic. Also you should come here again and try chip spice on everything! It’s probably the best food thing to come out of hull!!
