That's human nature. We are easily addicted to everything that comes our way, whether it's sex, drugs, alcohol, food, money, power, heck even water. That's why balance is key in life and moderation in everything is always the best way to live life. But when things get boring, when you're stuck in a rut or routine, spice things up a little with whatever to give yourself those positive bursts of energy, emotions, and what not.

I think making time to allow yourself to break down, crumble, cry, and feel your pain for a while is a very stoic practice. My husband and I are house hunting currently and that is always very difficult and stressful, but we just got outbid on a place yesterday that was PERFECT for our lifelong dreams. I'm SO bummed about this. I'm going to allow myself to sad-sack about it today and just feel bad for a while. That will give me the strength and energy to pop back up and get back out there and hunt, bid, and make our dreams come true. This works a lot better than going "Ah-ah, a stoic would simply stand up straight and strong and not show emotion about it!" Not to others, maybe...But I can't see Marcus Aurelius not allowing himself to cry in private when his precious children and his people were dying and he was going bankrupt from a plague. Took me a long time to learn that lesson. There is strength in tears and letting yourself feel, the art is knowing when to do what and making time for it, and then letting yourself indulge fully without restraint.

My wife and I realized that when you see a house or property that you think is “ the one” there’s always another one that is “ the one” We thought that a 20 acre of land was “ the one” but later on we bought 40 acres and we said to ourselves “ thank God we didn’t buy the 20acres. Trust me, there are a lot of properties out there. Good Searching. I don’t believe in luck.
@widowkeeper47394 жыл бұрын
@@usmcpatriot7546 Thank you for that. I'm feeling restored and ready to get back out there. Just the aggravation of looking and outbidding other property hunters is daunting and unpleasant, but we're gonna work till our life-long dreams come true.

Agreed 100%. Stoicism is about controlling and dealing with your emotions in a healthy way. Being sad or angry once in a while is healthy. But being sad or angry 24/7 about something is mentally damaging. Being able to see light in the dark, and dark in the light is what stoicism is about. Thank you for sharing

Thank you for these stoic quote videos, I have what doctors call developmental disabilities which cause a lot of stress and anxiety to the point where my thoughts can freeze up on me. Throughout my life i've struggled with this, but i've also grown from it to the point where most people I know have said i'm like a completely different person from how I was when I was younger. Every day I get up for work, I eat breakfast and listen to these quotes.......any time I feel unsure or nervous about the day, I listen to these and it calms my mind and steels my resolve. I am gradually noticing an improvement in how I approach each day, instead of fear there is acceptance and excitement. When I was younger I hated what I would go through with my misfortunes and emotional ups and downs from my disabilities, but now I am grateful for the lessons and chances for growth that life has given me. When I was in my early 20's I thought i'd never move out of my parents house, have a stable and SUCCESSFUL job, be independent or feel like I was "good enough", feelings of uselessness and worthlessness were an every day occurrence. Now I am 40, i've had my own apartment for about 10 years, I have a full time job (just got a promotion in-fact), i'm much more comfortable with accepting what life sends my way and more motivated to learn from it. These quotes speak straight to my soul and give me strength and courage every day, thank you for that and for all that you do. Just for reference, my disabilities (at least that's what the doctors call them) are Obsessive Compulsive disorder, body dismorphic disorder, anxiety stress disorder, tourettes syndrome and attention deficit disorder....i've gone from feeling absolutely useless to having a secretarial state job with great benefits and a bright future ahead. Where once I hated the things I had to go through, now I see them as challenges that will strengthen me. Do not fear the unknown, embrace it and face what will come head on and grow stronger. If I can do it, anyone can. Meet each coming storm with a smile, let the winds and rain whip against you, cleansing you of weakness and fear.
