I very much like all of these Stoic quotes. One of my favourites is the one of Epicurus: “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not. Remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.”

@@jimhenry3992 it means look at your life right now objectively as if judging yourself at your own death. Realize your errors and all the evil you’ve done. It’s gone you can’t change it. it means you’ve lived a life without philosophy or guiding principles and acted how you pleased without thought of how it harms others and yourself. However you can now live a life of meaning and purpose filled with good. Realize that, then live the rest of your life properly as a real human being with careful thought while doing the right thing. At least that’s what it meant to me it may affect others in a different manner.

As stoicism is a philosophy separate from religion, it stands to reason it's a good companion. It could be a good companion to any religious belief because it doesn't interfere with belief, only influences personal mindset. That being said, I'd be happy to meet a Christian who could even hold to the two commandments mandated by Christ, much less juggle a second philosophy. Most folks I know who call themselves "Christian" couldn't love their neighbor if their life depended on it.

Hey Guys - greetings from Oz Down Under - great video - wishing everyone health & happiness in these troubled times wherever you may be - as the Stoics tell us sometimes it's important to remember that mankind has always lived in troubled times (in one way or another) - we will have a happier life if we live with an attitude of gratitude - as Viktor Frankl points out along with all the Stoics : "all we ever really have control of is our attitude in any given set of circumstances" - stay safe - take care - cheers !

Most of the enunciations of Epictetus, M.Aurelius, Seneca, etc. are derivatives of similar Maxims from Ptah Hotep, a Vizier ( First Secretary) of a circa 2060 BCE Pharaoh named Djed-Ra-Isesi ( 4th Dynasty). Especially the "Meal" situation. "The Maxims of PtahHotep" by Christian Jacq, ( translated from Original Papyrus Manuscript in Paris, into French, then into English). I read it at least once a week, and with these Stoic Maxims, am comparing the two Lines of Thought, almost 2,000 years apart, and Two different Cultures.

Some of the best true stoic man King Solomon - Paul the apostle - and the number one of course Jesus Christ. I really like Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus. But I know that life is based on spirituality but we are too distracted to realized. We don't like our life's to be confronted, and we don't like it when our life is exposed. I studied philosophy and I realized that is good but real philosophy is seeking the truth just like Socrates did. We live in a society where we think we know everything but we know nothing. READ PROVERBS AND ECCLESIASTES OF KING SOLOMON, AND YOU WILL LEARN A LOT. IF YOU ARE SEEKING TRUTH Life is short.
