@ngrey10265 ай бұрын
@moe5020 If you think about it like that, then everything ever could be a "situational disability" for something else. That's an opportunity cost. Thinking of your kids as enabling you to tend to them, something you love to do because you love them, rather than "disabling" you from doing something else you like to do, is the point. By tending to them you can prove your priorities and love to them, that they are above playing games or whatever.

We come upon the real question here: Does Boogie have empathy and morals somewhere deep down in his folds? I'm not convinced he would be that affected by it.
@DaMaster0124 ай бұрын
Exactly. Boogie might actually have anti-social personality disorder, because he is straight up sociopathic in how much he does not care about anyone and anything but himself and satiating is hedonistic vices. I'll tell you exactly what would happen if Keem actually did put Boogie in a room with real cancer patients; the patients would share all their stories about how much they've been legitimately suffering, and Boogie would put on his god damn 1 HP voice and start trauma-dumping them with the fiction of his abusive childhood and faking penance by copping to being a terrible person just because he thinks that what they want to hear. But if Keem walked in and announced that all the money Boogie would have gotten for that episode would instead be going to help treat the patients, Boogie would fly into a spitting rage and start screaming at everyone in that room, even the people dying from the very disease he pretended to have in his evil attempt to grift money from people. Boogie is so monstrously devoid of empathy that he would try to manipulate cancer patients if given the chance; he's just that much of a pathological liar and a malignant narcissist. Trying to get Boogie to feel genuine remorse for his racket by trying to struggle session him with cancer patients would be as futile as trying to get Vaush to learn humility and change his mind by forcing him to hear the horror stories of people who defected/escaped from communist dystopias. And just like Vaush, Boogie hasn't suffered nearly enough for his evil ways. The only fitting thing to do is ostracize him until he is banished by all and left to live in the Hell of a life he made for himself alone, where his only two options are to repent, or be crushed by the weight of his wickedness.

Adversity is a bump on the road one can bitch about and refuse to cross, or one can just step over and call a bumpy ride. Each person keeps their own misery-level; circumstances are tuned out or blown out of proportion to meet this level. That's how you get poor people who can laugh off an injury and rich people having breakdowns over an insult that wasn't even directed at them. If one's mentality is lousy, no amount of external vindication will be enough. Obviously life-changing tragedies will tip the whole person of balance, that's natural; but for every-day life, lots of people really be looking for reasons to justify their bad mood.

And keem is fine with the abuse because of the fact he sees a little bit of himself in boogie, and keem hates that despite not understanding it. I don't know but that is what I think I see. One of Kojima's fans prior to the release of MGSV was suffering from terminal cancer his entire life and he played the MGS games specifically because playing as Snake allowed him to do things that he couldn't do in real life since he was bedridden. Being able to crawl, run, punch, fight and sneak around was important to him specifically because he never had the chance to do those things. Sadly he passed before the release of MGSV but Kojima visited his family personally to deliver a signed copy because the boy wrote a letter to his team encouraging them to do their best at developing the game.

Another case in point, back during my Overwatch days, I used to watch content from a KZbinr named Stylosa, who was ranked competitively in Masters and would make videos where he'd watch competitive games his viewers sent him and he'd commentate on their gameplay: good, bad, and offer constructive criticism on what they could do to improve. One time, he received gameplay footage from an Orisa main who was legally blind, having one tenth or less the focus of 20/20 vision... he was still ranked in Platinum, and was still asking for help on how to be a better player. Jim Sterling doesn't actually care about "aCcEsSaBiLiTy" or "tHe dIsAbLeD," he just sucks at video games and wants them to be easier so he can beat them. He reeks of the kind of kid who bragged about how he beat DOOM on nightmare difficulty, only for the other kids to find out that he beat it with god mode enabled, and they bullied him out of all their gaming circles for it, and he's felt contemptuously resentful of "tHe gAmErS TM" ever since.

I think just the basic thing that Sterling fails to consider is that balancing a game's difficulty is REALLY *HARD* just for one experience. If a developer chooses to make so many alternate modes and settings, it severely kneecaps the ability for any one mode to be balanced if they aren't on their shit. And when one setting COMPLETELY REMOVES FAIL STATES, how do they intend to make it as engaging as the "standard" mode?
@kennandunn75335 ай бұрын
I mean, most game developers try to make an engaging story, but you're right, they'd be pretty hard pressed to keep my attention without any fail states. That being said I can't speak for anyone else so there's probably someone out there that's perfectly fine with it, lucky them, for the rest of us though, the other difficulties are still there. This doesn't really feel like that big of a deal when you can still crank up the difficulty to your preference.
@Wyzai4 ай бұрын
Honestly, Sterling fails to consider game development as a thing, here. Games don't appear out of a printer where we can just tweak the blueprint to change the result. The process is very involved and time consuming. Every moment spent on developing one thing is another thing left undeveloped. I thought he understood this, with his politics being all about "eat the rich" and sharing resources.
@VarshiVexes5 ай бұрын
Accessibility vs Difficulty - books are a clear example - large fonts, fonts for dyslexic people, audiobooks, brail - all accessibility features. But Imagine someone saying that Shakespeare or Dostoyevsky are not accessible to disabled people, thus the 'difficult' or 'long' words should be changed.

2:33:10 Something I'm surprised wasn't brought up at this point was the fact that during the Armstrong fight, the gameplay and story are working together to put Raiden (and *you* too) on the backfoot. Raiden's sword gets broken and - putting aside the symbolism of that - now you're dealing way less damage at the midpoint of that fight, and you're missing options you've become very used to for survival, like parrying. You're now entirely reliant on your worst option in a fight - being totally unarmed - and your defenses are crippled. And this is specifically not just to make the game harder! The challenge is depicting Raiden _himself_ not being prepared for Armstrong to be what he is: he's expecting a war profiteer without principles, just greed, only to be caught off-guard both by Armstrong's prowess in a fight _and_ the presence of principles he at first can't fully grasp, then can't fully disagree with. As Raiden tries to figure out the man standing before him and what he actually believes, you're doing the same while also trying to figure out how to hold your own while at a massive disadvantage. The Armstrong fight is a fantastic blend of a game's different elements to produce a unique experience through all its components working in harmony. Imagine how much it would suffer if you got a pop-up that said "losing your sword make game hard :(. Do you want to keep it instead?"
@Nejiranu5 ай бұрын
Or, possibly more devastating to the stakes, you knew Raiden couldn't die anyway. What does losing your sword, your defensive abilities, and that extra damage matter when you can just pound your head into him, consequences be damned. Would that player even notice that they didn't have a sword? Would they even know how to parry or dodge?

3:27:57 - the missing point of the absurd DEI-bureaucracy Project is: Situational Disabilities are NOT disabilities. They do not prevent a person from {hearing, seeing, speaking, touching}. *SOME* people can ABSOLUTELY bartend and carry 2 conversations, including explaining a michelin star menu, make an 8-ingredient cocktail (with an egg white), and be absolutely in the weeds and *STILL* hear someone in the "well" call out something. Same with heavy accents- some people can 100% understand certain (or all) accents. Some people can carry a baby in their hat or bag, and touch your balls, or w.e. - THE SENSES AND MOTOR SKILLS ARE NOT DISABLED WHEN YOU ARE IN A "Situation" - this reeks of the same trash all these bloated bureacracies peddle; lack of accountability, and making BS to justify their existence (and "careers")

if being a new parent wasn't a sitautional disability then why is maturnity leave a thing what would you call someone who is unABLE to do something because of another situational need that takes priority? If you buy a book, are you entitled to just have all the knowledge in that book automatically be in your head? No, you still gotta read it, pay attention, understand it and remember it. Same for a video game. Baby mode where the game plays itself defeats the entire purpose of it being a video game, not to mention how it shits all over the effort of devs who worked on the mechanics, visuals, balancing, etc etc

The focal point is the advertising business. Gaming journalists are NOT gamers. They'll just tell publishers they won't report on games that their brainless activists can't complete. Publishers want to sell their product and don't care about the art that is creating a game. So, like basically everything today, the customers are the enemy because the advertisers are considered the more important customers than actual human customers. Welcome to Corportocracy, lads.
@crimsonpotemkin5 ай бұрын
