Great story guys .I have been married to a Philipina for 30 years you will never find a more hardworking culture we have 2 grown children and even though it's been 30 years and we are getting ready to retire soon to the Philippines we still hold hands when we are out like it's the beginning of our relationship.

I met my wife on the Internet, flew to Cagayan de Oro two months later, and applied for our wedding license during that wonderful visit. I flew back to Cagayan de Oro about six weeks later and we got married. It took nine months for her visa to be awarded (a very tough time period for us). I was able to visit her once in the interim. We married in May 2005. Fifteen years later, we have a beautiful, smart daughter and a happy family life together. It's been a life blessing.

From listening to your life experiences previously and the depths to which you sunk before giving the Philippines a shot I must say how happy I am for you that you have found Jen and conversely how she has found you. Most of the negative comments you will receive about age difference and "red flags" I would dismiss as you are no fool and have the insight to know that if something feels right then it most likely is. I have been the victim of two Filipina scammers and from what I can see and hear from you and Jen there is no hint of anything other than a experienced man who is switched on and a conservative respectful girl who is happy to be with you long term. Good luck to you both.

As long as both understand what they're in the game for, I agree with you. But I don't want him to come back in five years saying, "She took me for a ride." ;-) Some people have said if a 60 year old marries a 20 year old, and take her to the US, the UK or any Western nation, it won't be long before she "grows up" in the new culture, and it's bye, bye. I have seen the same with many other ethnic groups. I know guys from the Vietnam era brought over girls they met in a bar. There's something about that bar life, I guess whether it's Thailand, Vietnam, or Korea, and that is maybe you can take the girl out of the bar, but can't take the bar out of the girl. But it seems these little provincial Filipinas are cut from a different cloth. They seem to be more religious and kind-hearted in general. But there are stories about online Filipina scammers. Maybe there is a boyfriend helping them with the scamming business.

Hi, just listened to a few of your interviews, very good questions and conversations, you are good at it. I'm presently not in the Philippines but living in the US with my Filipina wife for 8 years now. I have a sweet place here if I didn't I would probably be in Palawan, I last was in the Ph in February 2020. From the very beginning like most here I made it absolutely clear to my wife that I did not want a child and she understood that. I thought I was too old and it wouldn't be fair to the kid to have an old dad especially in the US, also it has been said with older guys the percentages of having a not normal child is much higher. I love my Filipina wife and she seems happy with me and the situation we have, she never complains. As time goes on my love for her s deepened. I was 58 and she 36 when we met. I do have one regret and that is I did not give her a baby. Most if not ALL Filipinas want to be a mother and have a child. If a western man truly love a Filipina he will give her what she really desires and that is a child, it is paramount. When I'm gone my wife will be well taken care of if the economies don't totally crash she has a home here and comfortable and enough to buy one in the Philippines if she wants but I didn't give her a child and I know she is disappointed about that fact even though she doesn't say so and it hurts me to know it....I do my best to please her and we take care of each other but if I had it over again even though I don't want another child I would not deprive her of being a mother. Filipinas may say it's ok if we don't have a child (mine did) but in truth it's not...I know they want to be a mother I wish I would have been more considerate 9 years ago. Wishing you all the best with your relationship, I love the Philippines....Unceasing Blessings!

I love the Philippines and look forward to our return (hopefully this winter if travel becomes better) but we have a sweet peaceful garden home here. My point here was if you truly love your Filipina make her a mother. I've thought about adoption if I do move to Ph but it wouldn't be the same. As I said she doesn't complain or even comment on not having a child, most Filipinas wouldn't but it would be that much more sweeter if she did...for me she is all I desire.

I'm Filipino and grew up in the Philippines at the bigger urban area of the country i.e. Baguio City. Watching your interview with Jen, I sense the conservativeness of women from the provinces compared to a woman who lives in the City like Manila. The conservativeness of Filipina women could be due to the Maria Clara Spanish influence to our culture kind of thing.

I applaud you for introducing her despite the feedback you might have expected to receive. Jen is a lovely young woman and I think you and she both chose wisely. I have a little experience with filipinas and I do think if you respect and treat her like the lady she is.... she will love and take of you forever. It's definitely a two way street in this relationship. You provide what she wants and needs and she returns that with love and affection. That is a WIN WIN. I say good job and good luck. Big age difference may want to slow down a little 4 months already engaged to fast, no doubt she likes foreigners they provide the best opportunity to rise above the extreme poverty many Pilipino families struggle with. Nothing wrong with wanting a better life who doesn’t, perfectly reasonable for her to try and achieve, as long there is trust and absolute total honesty between both of you then you’re on the right path. I’m American and met my Filipina wife in similar fashion this was done before internet all by correspondence, would take about 3 weeks to receive reply, this is where trust and honesty come in, life is a gamble but can only win if you play. I brought her to the U.S and been happily married for 23 years now, good luck just take it slow.

peter tosh Well, actually Filipinas can keep up an act for a long time. In fact, a very long time. Actually for years, even though you see them everyday while you are courting them. My wife kept up a “Miss Sweetie Pie, butter would not melt in my mouth act”, perfectly for almost four years, while I lived in the Philippines. Immediately after we married that changed quickly and radically. I could not recognize her as the person I had know. Tons of meanness, rudeness, insults, put downs, ingratitude, and bipolar anger popped up.

Ian Hopper: Trust me, not even close. In the West, frankness is valued to a certain extent, and we are quite frank when speaking with others. We are accustomed to expressing our true opinions, and feelings with those we know at least fairy well. It is completely different in the Philippines. There, frankness is not valued at all, and in all conversation outside of the immediate family, even with best friends, frankness is very seldom express. Instead, people say what sounds good, as opposed to the true. In other words, people very seldom speak the truth, outside of the immediate family. Instead, they lie. You can trust nothing that is said to you. Filipinos do not expect the truth, because they themselves do not use it. Americans do expect the truth. If you know a Filipina for five years, you will still be hearing what sounds good from her as opposed to the truth. Once you are married, you become immediate family, and you will start to hear what they really think, and feel, and you won’t like it one bit. Where as before, she told you what a swell guy you are, how generous, how thoughtful, how kind, good looking, etc., now you will find that none of this was true at all. You will find that you are ugly, selfish, have a bad attitude, dress in a sloppy manner, walk wrong, sit wrong, you’re stupid, etc., and those are just the good things they have to say about you.

I've been to the Philippines many times over the last 8 years. Its a great place for a vacation. I will admit I have met many women there in the past. But in reality I always preferred to be on my own long term. Your a 65 year old male with a poor financial track record. You have hooked up with a woman 40 years younger than yourself and are calling her your fiance. She has had no past experience of the opposite sex. As exciting as it may seem the reality is with lack of birth control used in the Philippines children can be a consequence. My point is does a 65 year old man need more financial burdens.

I think that there is something that needs to be said here for the sake of all concerned. A Filipino guy cannot ask a girl out on a date until she is officially his girlfriend, and he cannot officially have the girl as his girlfriend until he courts her Filipino style, and “proposes” (and that is exactly what they call it) to her, with these exact words, and she accepts, “I love you! Will you be my girlfriend?”. Remember, I said, these exact words. Now, a part of the courtship requires that the girl is not supposed to say, “Yes”, the first time she is asked. As a matter of fact, the longer she holds out, the greater prestige she gains. Only a cheap girl would say,”Yes”, the first time she is asked. Secondly, the guy should say these words the third time he sees her. Why? Because all love in the Philippines is love at first sight, so a guy who would wait for longer than the third time he sees the girl, must be insincere in his love. I might also mention that a girl is expected to have only one boyfriend in her life. (Yes. You can’t make this stuff up). Now, let’s look at some other facts that touch upon this: First off, there are the three times more females in the Philippines (the RP), as there are males. Why? Because there is a very high infant mortality rate in the RP (as high as 50% in some areas), and most infant deaths are male. (I could tell you but time forbids). Think for a moment what this means in terms of a woman finding a boyfriend. . . Now, let’s add to that the fact that at least 20% of males are gay. . . Now, what are the chances of any girls but the most beautiful (and remember that “beautiful” in the RP means tall, or light skinned) finding a boyfriend. Oh, I should probably mention that any girl who reaches the age of 25 years old without being married is considered to be past the age of marriage - too old - over the hill. Why? Because it’s a buyers market. With four girls for every straight guy, why would any guy in his right mind pick a girl 25 or older (unless her family was wealthy), when he could have his choice of practically any younger girl he desired? What do the girls who can’t find a boyfriend do? They quite happily, and proudly, without a shade of embarrassment, become second wives. What are “second wives”? These are what we call mistresses in the West, except in the Many other beautiful girls quite happily become the girlfriends of dikes. They say that dikes know how to please them physically better than real guys. Incidentally being dikes, and lesbians are full accepted, and quite popular in the RP. there is no shame, and nothing immoral about it Now, for those who still find it hard to believe that this video guy’s girlfriend could never have been on a date, before, let me add this: Have you noticed the color of this guy’s girlfriend. If not, look again. She is quite dark. Color is everything in the RP. Dark people are considered to be ugly there, no matter how attractive they might seem to a westerner. Frankly, it would be embarrassing for any Filipino guy to be seen with a girl of that darkness, and secondly, the color of one’s as yet unborn children is of paramount importance when selecting a girlfriend. I can remember being asked very often while I lived in the RP, why we foreigners (including myself) “always” chose such ugly girls when we were so handsome, and could have any girl we wanted. They could not believe me when I told them that most of we foreigners did not consider darkness to be ugly. How could they?

Every Man Has a Story: I lived in Manila for six years. For the first couple of yesterday, I taught school at an international school. I then worked as a contract hire at the US Embassy compound at SeaFront, some several miles south of the Embassy proper, on Rojas Blvd. I traveled a whole lot around the county. I had approximately 35 girlfriends during this time, not because I was special, but specifically because I knew how to court Filipino style. However, I met several expats during this period who were unable to find a girlfriend in this land of plenty, however none of them were willing to listen to anything I had to say on the subject. They simply could not conceive of anyone doing anything different than we Americans do it, or of having different values. But, I’m here to tell you that Philippine (RP) culture and values are radically different than ours. For instance, right and wrong, good and bad are completely different. For instance, in the west these values are objective, while in the Philippines they are subjective. For instance, if I or my brother rapes your sister, this is perfectly OK. Neither I, nor my bother have committed no sin. On the other hand, if you rape my sister, this is a grievous crime, a moral sin, and no punishment is too harsh. Written laws are the same way, subjective. For instance, the RP penal Code states that there shall be no bail in the case of capital crimes, however in practice it depends entirely upon who you are, who you know, who you are related to, what you position is, and how much money one has. Now, you may say that this is someone’s the case in the US as well, however, in the US, this would be an undercover thing, something kept secret, some that the officials authorizing it would know that they were doing wrong. Not so, in the RP. There it is considered to only right that the law should be applied differently to different people, and there is no attempt to hide it. Different strokes for different folks is the law of the land. I should also mention in relation to right and wrong that Filipinos believe that nothing can happen without God’s approval, and they use this to justify their actions. For instance if I steal your your motor cycle, I have done nothing wrong, since God would not have allowed me to do it if it was wrong. The fact that he allowed me to do it is proof that it was not wrong. As to preference in skin color, this is very often referred to by Filipinos as a “Colonial Mentality”, meaning that Filipinos have adopted the values of their former colonial masters in regard to beautiful, and many other things. I made it a point during the years that I lived in the RP to constantly question, and investigate anything that I experienced, or observe everyday, in order to learn the “why”, and thus the culture. For instance, one day I noticed that motorcycle drivers always wore long sleeved jackets, although it was alway swelteringly hot. It didn’t make sense to me. I learned that motor cycle drivers did this to prevent their extended arms from becoming dark. Once again, dark skin is ugly. I might mention one other thing before I “park my pen”, as Filipinos say. I would never recommend that a foreigner marry a Filipino. The cultures, attitudes, and beliefs are just too dissimilar. For instance, in addition to that which I cited above concerning right and wrong, gratitude, and appreciation are unknown in the Filipino culture. I know what you may be thinking, “Wait a minute, gratitude, and appreciation are natural human traits. All humans are born feeling this, etc.”. Not true, rather, as I found out the hard way, these traits rte learned behaviors. Remember, in the RP, nothing happens unless it is God’s will, therefore your benefactor was God,not you. God deserves the credit, the appreciation, and the gratitude, therefore, you are undeserving of credit. You did nothing. You were only Goo’s unwilling instrument. No matter what you do, or how long you do it for, and no matter how much you sacrifice, you will never be worthy of the slightest genuine recognition, and of course when you ask for a favor, you will be turned down cold. I could go on and on with these cultural dissimilarities, and the hurt and pain they cause for paragraphs, but suffice it to say that it is difficult enough for any man and woman to understand and get along with each other, without adding these deep divisions to the mix. OK. If you should have questions, I am here to assist.
