Is it possible for a foreigner to buy land in the Philippines?
@AngryKittens3 жыл бұрын
@@Scubajunky As an individual no. Land ownership in the Philippines is constitutionally protected and only allowed for citizens per the 1935 Constitution, a reaction perhaps to our colonial past. You can only own them if you form a corporation with Filipino citizens, and even then, only if your equity does not exceed 40%. You can own condominums/townhouses/shares in private land which are part of a real estate development project (a "gated subdivision", as they are known in the Philippines), again with the provision that the corporation you bought them from must be 60% owned by citizens. You can lease land, however, for up to 50 years, without equity restrictions. You can also own houses or buildings completely, but the land it is built on must either be leased and/or owned by a Filipino citizen.
@vitrarom44683 жыл бұрын
@@Scubajunky Setup a PH company, use the company to buy land. May Europeans (Swedish, Noregians) did it in the island of Mindoro - Puerto Galera in the early 1990s. You can still do it now. Your company (corporation) must employ local people, of course but no minimum no. of employees. Used to be at least 5 people to setup a corporation. I think last year, it changed to 2 people. check it out - sec.gov.ph

Tim is a real nice guy, And he clearly is well adapted to local sensitivies, which is not an easy thing to deal with PH having diverse communities. He even smiles when trying to discuss/explain a tricky or difficult situation/topic (eg Duterte image, immigration waiting times situation) which is typical of a Pinoy character. Nice interview, really enjoyed it.

The Philippines and Thailand just signed a contract with Astrazeneca, a UK pharma company to supply COVID-19 vaccine. Hopefully it works and finally convinces Duterte to loosen things up a bit. From a business standpoint, another factor to look at is the exchange rate coz the peso is one of the few currencies that has been appreciating against the US dollar. When OFWs remit massive amounts of hard currency to their loved ones in time for Christmas it's bound to gain even more. I just love hearing the perspective from adventurous guys like Tim. What is amazing is that he was able to live his dream of travelling and having an unconventional lifestyle while raising a family which is a tough balancing act. Makes you want to reflect on your own direction in life and just hit the reset button. I've heard that there's hundreds of Swiss expats living in Ilo-Ilo. Would love to hear their stories as well. Great interview and you just earned a new subscriber.

Great information from a business perspective. 38:00. I find it very disappointing that Philippines is not doing much to attract foreign tourists and investors, and once again be left behind by our neighbors once this pandemic ends. We've been outsmarted in the past, and that's why we are lagging behind. economically All the Philippines has to do is match whatever their policies and incentives to foreigners, and I strongly believe, more investors will flock to the Philippines, given our obvious distinct advantage. We need investments to eradicate poverty, these poor people have been suffering because of these archaic policies.
@linotolentino66414 жыл бұрын
I used to work in an American auto parts manufacturing company in Cebu in the late 80s, which then sent some Chinese in the early 90s to train in our plant. You very well know what happened next. These too, happened in other industries such as furniture (we lost it to Vietnam), seaweed/carrageenan (to Indonesia), semi conductors (to Taiwan and Malaysia), to name just a few. Ford launched its model T in the Philippines way back in 1913, had its first assembly and stamping plant in 1968. Unfortunately, we lost it to Thailand in 2012. Apparently, Philippines was just a jump off point for American companies into Asia. Why we're left behind is beyond me, maybe a good topic for future dicussion.

He should apply dual citizenship, Canadian and Philippines. His business and properties are more safer. And also his family futures. There’s nothing wrong if you have dual citizenship. Rich people and businessmen, most of them have dual citizenship. The world has changing now, because of this technology rules laws all around the world. If you want move to another country and do business or expand your business. You could, as long you do legal business. Most of the countries needs business to sustain their economy. They need skilled creative people to make their economy run and sustainable. Simple as that. Like what happens to the pilipinos abroad. they have skills & educations Going to Europe America and middle East. Lots of old people in Europe and not family oriented. Singles old people like in japan. Few young are working in skilled manual cheap Labour. New generation don’t know how to raise a family. They have fear about it. If you have family here you can get benefits from the govt. You don’t need to worry to work hard.😁 Some are rather to live alone. That’s why most this continents hired abroad because of shortages( Labour). And also cheap wages. It’s business!

So even if his kids is born in the Philippines they are not automatically eligible for citizenship. But is a person is Filipino Descent they are illegible for citizenship even though they had other Nationality as a Dual Citizen. If they don't have Filipino Blood, they need to drop the other nationality.
