The LCD Switch never had a paticularly good display anyway. It's not very colour accurate and colour temperature can vary wildly between units. Clearly a cost cutting measure (even the LCD Steam Deck is guilty of this). LCDs can look really nice as long as they're properly calibrated. Even Sony's extremely expensive flagship mastering monitors use LCD displays that have been tuned to perfection for their intended use cases.

on the topic of "the difficulties of casting to a TV" the thing you are forgetting steve is that the difficulty there is you are using two different devices, likely from two different companies, and likely attempting to thread together two versions of the same app. if Nintendo is running from the Switch 2 to the Doc its using eliminating virtually all of those pressure points.

For the "mouse" feature, i think people arent getting Nintendo-y enough with it. Rather than use it accurately as a pointer, how about just combining the motion of moving it around like that with something like HD rumble. That could lead to in game experiences like making a wax rubbing in Prof Layton or scrubbing dishes in Warioware.

The original Switch already can use mouse and keyboard but hardly any games utilise this feature. For instance the Quake games can be played this way. Metroid Prime 4 could use this set up on Switch 1.

30:00 The Cast button (if that) could work by simply syncing with the Dock to stream to the TV. Instead of making the console cast to other devices that may or may not work, just make it a dedicated function of the Dock itself, problem solved.

I think the stuff about casting is the same as the thing about storage on the dock - even if there is a 25% of savvy users that would know that any games on a drive attached to the dock could not be playable as soon as they undock the Switch, it's so cumbersome, so much more complexity and so easy to make problems to unsavvy people that they won't do it.

Steve was surprisingly off-base on some relatively simple stuff here imo. AirPlay has always worked pretty consistently for me and the like nine or ten people who have used it in my proximity over the years, which is anecdotal of course but also presumably if it were anywhere near the problem he describes Apple would be all over rectifying that rather than dumping money into a feature that doesn’t work. Everybody’s setup is of course a little different, too, but I’d imagine it’s significantly more common than not that people have a coffee table in front of their couch that they could use the mouse functionality on. Just kind of strange.

I’m still not sure about the idea of Metroid Prime 4 being a launch title, at least the main launch title with nothing else accompanying it. The series has historically failed to penetrate the mainstream, & it’s especially struggled in Japan. So while I don’t doubt that MP4 will be the best selling entry in the franchise, I just don’t think Metroid has the clout to carry an entire system launch by itself. It’d need something more mainstream like 3D Mario or Mario Kart 9/10 backing it up.

There's a major potential positive about casting to the dock (as opposed to the TV itself). Currently we understand that the dock is likely to have additional cooling ehich means metal. In the OG switches case, the case is almost entirely platic so almost nothing to attentuate signal. Is Sw2 wireless connects to the dock then that means the dock must have a wireless card and antenna. So when the console is docked, it could awitch to using the docks wireless, which could be a lot better as there would be space for at least 2x2 MIMO setup.

I'm still curious how they will utilize most of the features and hardware that leaked. Personally I believe the mouse idea for the joycon is BS for a multitude of reasons, from ergonomics reasons to usability to nobody having a suitable surface for a mouse on the go or on their couch. I assume they may try to expand on the Labo idea with the additional sensors and maybe make it easier to produce custom hardware that can be scanned with these sensors rather than requiring electronic components. Also we have no idea about the software side of things. They probably had their online playtest for a reason and I assume the Switch will have some sort of online network feature. Regarding the "We know 100% it is called switch 2 line" That comes from one guy who claims he saw the logo and reconstructed it from memory. That is not what I would call hard proof, even if it isn't unlikely.

There was that patent about a scroll wheel on the joycon itself and I was not sure how a horizontal wheel would work but then, if you do have to turn the joycon to its side, then the wheel just becomes normally oriented. Not sure how that would work on the pro controller though. I suppose just because the wheel is in a different orientation doesn't mean it can't just scroll vertically.

One thing I would like is one NSO hub app with all the console apps nested inside it. Especially if Nintendo bothers to add more systems. DS, Master System and TG-16 would be nice. I'm actually pessimistic about GC coming as I feel Nintendo has shown the viability of remakes for that generation.

Dude I wasn't using the eshop for some time and I got soooo bad. It loads absolutely horrific, I couldn't do it anymore. My last purchase on switch was now Shovel Knight dig for 12,50 €. I'm playing this and some multiplayer games like Splatoon 3 and MK8 until the switch 2 comes out. It was a fantastic 7,5 year ride with the switch and with echoes of wisdom as the last big game for me on the switch. Since April 2017 I was hyped for many new games like never before in a console life. Until end of 2024. This really feels like end of 2016 before the switch was revealed. I'm so ready.

Man, hearing the pain of using iPhones to cast. I had no idea, casting on Android to a Chromecast or Google TV is solid as a rock and cheap as anything. It's done over WiFi and it would be super cheap for Nintendo to add to the dock. Never heard that suggestion for the C button, but it would be awesome. Now that's everything I want from the Switch 2.

Regarding overclocking, you can get a pretty much solid 60fps on Breath of the wild, Tears of Kingdom and Echoes of Wisdom if you overclock the cpu, gpu and ram, so for those kinds of games there isn't really "a lot missing" on the Switch 1.

12GB RAM and limited vRAM is going to be a big limiting factor in 5 years that makes people long for a Switch 3. I see the end cycle of the Switch repeating due to these limitations, and I think by then 32GB of RAM will be what 16GB of RAM is now, and 16GB of vRAM will be a necessity.

The Switch 1 has been out nearly 8 years before its' successor is revealed, and the Switch 2 and Switch 3 gap will likely be longer. 5 years from now when a PlayStation 6 and Xbox 5 are out and Nvidia, AMD and Intel have made huge gains in the CPU realm with new CPU FOB development and GPU's using GDDR7 will be very matured by then (with 3GB and 4GB vRAM chips being financially feasible)... everything is going to ramp up a few plateaus by then.

I think the c button is going to be like the c buttons on the 64 controller... its a grab bag of a button, its an "Assign me" button, i think holding C lets you change the use function of all the other buttons.
