The one critique I have of this video is the bit at the end about the ball. Mikel didn't blame the ball for the 1st leg defeat. He was asked about the ball by a journalist because other managers had complained about it - he said that it was different & that it's an element of the game you have to adapt to, but he never said that the ball lost us the match. People seem to think he blamed the ball because broadcasters like Sky cut out the question from the clips they posted on social media.

There’s two pretty obvious reasons why people seem to have this borderline obsessive disdain for Arsenal 1) Until Arteta became manager, Arsenal were an extremely easy punching back for the latter half of Wenger’s reign and Emery. They would either lose in an embarrassing fashion to an inferior opponent or get shit stomped by one of the other Big 6 sides(consistently in the case of Man City). For like 15 years Arsenal’s only source of salvation was winning a couple FA Cups. But now they’ve been in the PL title picture for 3 straight and pundits(who don’t have a clear bias) willingly talk about them as being at least in the discussion as to who is winning the Champions League. It’s a reason why rivals are so desperate for Arsenal to come up short so they can scream out “bottlers” or why winning a trophy is suddenly the only measure of a successful season, specifically for Arsenal. 2) And this is probably the most obvious reason, AFTV. More so than it is with Arsenal twitter, AFTV I think is where the broad generalization of what people think of when they think of Arsenal supporters comes from.

I’m a Leeds fan so don’t really have a dog in the fight, most of my Arsenal supporting friends are actually fine , it’s just the online presence and the AFTV lot who have a platform that put them in such a bad light. In terms of the overcelebrating debate and stay humble etc, literally have no problem whatsoever - actually enjoy it quite a bit seeing a genuine rivalry where 2 clubs genuinely hate each other. It’s refreshing to see! Too many fans are obsessed with kicking up a fuss over nothing. Remember Micah Richards a few years ago saying when it’s Arsenal everyone wants to lump in for some reason and it still rings true. It’s genuinely weird why they’re so hated by everyone. When actually, they should be an example of a club with tradition who are being spearheaded by young homegrown players like Saka, Lewis-Skelly & Nwaneri.

There are supporters and there are fans. They are not the same though. A supporter will support at all times, but most importantly, they will support through the hard times. But a fan will come and go as they please, they will jump on the bandwagon in good times but they will be the first to run online to call for the coach, players and CEO to be sacked. Supporters earn their title of supporters, but fans just circulate hot air, usually through social media. The fans don't seem to realise that in real life you can't just keep hitting the reset button every time it doesn't go their way. People remember sh*thousery more than most other football facts and stats. Think of the antics that Vardy gets up to, like what he has done against Tottenham this season. It's brilliant and makes the game more fun. It is driven out of the tribal nature of football. That being said, most of it in the latest Arsenal/City game is in response to Haaland's antics in their previous fixture. He in particular acted like a child, especially at the end of the game, so they responded in kind.

Hatred towards Arsenal is a fairly complex subject that goes back generations and with all due respect, you just haven't addressed it with any depth or historical research. It might be due to your age that you think this is new phenomenon but Arsenal has been hated for decades. Since before any current player allegations, or Arteta, or AFTV. You're simply seeing the current iteration of a continuing attitude that goes back decades. There are literally videos of George Graham addressing it in the early 90's. If you don't know: Arsenal used to be the "foreign" club, full of foreign players with a foreign manager way before it was a socially accepted norm. And they won that way which wasn't popular. Arsenal used to be the "black" club, before that, when it wasn't normal or celebrated (eg the first top flight club to field 9 black players in a starting 11). And they won that way and it wasn't entirely well received. Even before that, Arsenal fielded Irish players when it wasn't done. And before that, Arsenal were regarded as the "posh" southern club in the northern, working class sport cheating with royal privileges (when the club was called "the royal Arsenal" and based in Woolwich). The media and rival fan's hatred of Arsenal has always existed. It's been perpetuated for so long and so persistently that today, people don't even understand or remember why they hate Arsenal: they just do. Hence why this video exists. And if you doubt it has anything to do with race, you're wrong. In the 70's, 80's, and even early 90's football was recruiting ground for racist political groups like National Front and Arsenal is one of the few major clubs in England where they failed to establish themselves. This was well known and again, ties into the club's national identity which still persists today: it might not be so obvious today, but as a result, Arsenal has always had a prominent black presence its fanbase, again at a time when racism was quite normal. It isn't a coincidence that Arsenal's online fan media has a higher proportion of black members than most other clubs in England. And this does tie into the perception that Arsenal fans are particularly "annoying". I'm not saying it's the cause, but it is related. And if you doubt that race plays a role in media narrative in football, simply ask yourself how papers and TV talk about confident or bold footballers (like vardy, foden, or graelish) and compare that to how they speak about their black counterparts (like Sterling, Rashford, Pogba etc) . Arsenal have always been an "outsiders" club positioned as "them" in the "us vs them" mindset nationally. I don't mean any disrespect, but it's way more complex than what your video suggests.

I'm an Arsenal fan. I genuinely haven't seen the fanbase on social media (with guys like AFTV and LeeGunner being HUGE exceptions) do anything annoying that fans of any other team in any league haven't done. Football fans are just like that. The difference is that rivals want us to still be the laughingstocks we were in Wenger's later years. They want us to be soft, they want us to be bottlers, they want us to shirk in big games. It infuriates them that the team (maybe not so much the owners) have standards again. Thats why it pains me when we haven't gotten any trophies over the line. It doesn't prove rivals right, but it does give them something to laugh at.

Okay I might be controversial in this take but I think with regards to ParDIDDY, Arsenal are doing it right. The law suggests its innocent until proven guilty and while he has been questioned several times, it doesnt make sense to seemingly punish the guy. Mendy got accused and was later proven innocent I think but that was irrelvant at that point considering he missed the prime of his career because of those accusations. On the thoughts of Arsenal being hated? IRL, lovely blokes. Most of my mates are Arsenal fans but the terminally online, vociferous set of supporters do make it easy to wish ill on them. I love banter. I appreciate that arsenal are trolling haaland and city and think they have every right to. That being said, I think a lot of fans feel like they drag it when they win, and then they just complain like crazy when they lose, and I think this reputation of being sore losers and sore winners has kind of followed arsenal around especially recently. I know several arsenal fans who are very mature when they lose so obviously this doesn't represent the entire fanbase but I do think that things like blaming losing on the ball or complaining about controversial referee decisions does give this impression.

I honestly think that other fans don't really know why they hate Arsenal. We're just trying to enjoy the ride and some other fans seem genuinely baffled that we can have a laugh and be happy without winning the league. I don't get it. As for the "lack of trophies", you make much more money coming second and going out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League than you do winning the FA and League cups every year. They get more crap then most of the English teams. In the USA pundits and commentators have to stay neutral with teams, they can't just openly hate a team. What annoys me about Arsenal atm is that the level of bravado about the club that hasn't been earned. The team itself seems to be being built around being hard to beat, rather than winning games, both in the personel and tactics. There's been a lack of technical creative players and strikers, yet each transfer window it's the defense and/or goalkeepers that get updated. Each time any of this is brought up, the fans will get all defensive like "We don't need a striker" even when they struggle to break down lesser teams. Show some ambition!

As a neutral (I am Romanian so not even from the UK) I do think that there is something to the Arsenal fans complaints about refs. Sure, refs can be idiots all the times across leagues (but honestly more so in the Prem than other leagues, the amount of stupid clips you get in the Prem are unmatched even with it being the most popular league and all. We ve literally had that “oh call was wrong but play had already restarted” situation they used for not calling back the Liverpool vs Spurs ghost offside last season here in Romania on a tough foul to see by an attacker before a goal (Rapid vs UTA Arad, matchday 1, btw look up Romanian league standings, they are hilariously tight) and the ref just stopped play 30 seconds later, realised his earpiece wasn’t working, changed it, went to the VAR screen and disallowed the goal after all) but Arsenal players seem to bear the brunt of it from what I have seen, that double yellow for toe poking the ball away while other players boot it and don’t get yellows for example was ridiculous. Sure, you can give a yellow for timewasting in the rulebook (which is already subjective and if the goal is 90 mins of total play time we d need a lot more minutes being played than this which ties into the player exhaustion discussion etc) and there were press articles (was it even official?) that they d be giving yellows for it but then they just stopped being anywhere near as harsh leaving Arsenal fans rightfully upset. As for VAR, I am totally in favour of it, it stops refs from hiding behind “oh I just couldn’t see it in real time”, if they still make obvious mistakes (yes, some things are subjective, not talking about that) we know they are incompetent at the very least. The fact that we d want the same refs making even more mistakes without VAR is ludicrous to me even with the added time a check takes. Overall, I do feel for Arsenal fans (and even more so Tottenham fans, sorry Arsenal fans) as they are in a good era for their club, trying to challenge City/Liverpool but not quite getting over the line in many instances and getting endlessly mocked for it. And yeah, celebrations are a part of football, unless you are charging the crowd or taking the shirt off to display idk what message (or just fuck with the sponsorship contracts) there is no reason to police any of it
