Bergkamp is my favourite Premier League player of all time and I'm a Man United fan! It was an honour to have this ludicrously talented player in the Premier League, regardless of who he played for. I always remember what Ian Wright said about him... "I never saw him have a bad touch, even in training". Players this good only come around once every 30 years. I read somewhere that while Bergkamp was at Arsenal, he was responsible for assisting or scoring 40% of their goals. You want to talk about a guy born to play football? He was the epitome. The guy was a damn genius. Look up his goal for Netherlands against Argentina in the World Cup 1998.

I remember my uncle getting a paid Dutch channel to be able to watch Arsenal when he moved there. I've watched almost all of the Arsenal matches whem Bergkamp was there. Out of this world football, with the invincible season as icing on the cake. Too bad he never won a Champions League and f*ck we deserved to win that '98 WC. Scored one of the best goals ever there. It is so interesting that after his remarkable debut, he was struggling a lot in his first two years at Ajax. The media and public were critical, judging him as a elegant, but also fairly limited player , relying too much on one move (he did cut inside often, probably because he did not like being on the right wing ;)) Then he started scoring very regularly while coming on as a substitute, almost a goal per game. His scoring style then rather efficiënt at that time, relying on his incredible first touch, and precise aim. It was only in his third year at Ajax that it became that he was a truly unique player with magical ball control. And the rest is history as they say ;) But it is also a cautionary tale that it can be difficult to judge the talent of a young player, and that we need to give them time and space to develop.

Bergkamp has been described by Jan Mulder as having "the finest technique" of any Dutch international and as a "dream for a striker" by former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry. He may have been Dutch, but Bergkamp’s biggest impact was arguably made on English football. Arriving to the Premier League as one of its first wave of foreign imports back in the unreconstructed early 1990s, Bergkamp immediately demonstrated a suaveness and detached innovation that was alien to the culture he’d come into. Without a shadow of a doubt the best player Arsenal ever witnessed to play in the famous red and white

Jan Mulder also said: with Bergkamp you win matches, with vBasten you win wars. It is sad that vBasten is so forgotten. He was so elegant. He was compared with Nurujev, the top ballet dancer. With vBAsten you had the combination of elegancy and killer mentality.

Everyone who followed the premier league back then over here was a man utd fan cause they were winning leagues, champions leagues etc. I still hadn't decided on the team I liked yet. And then I saw Arsenal and Dennis Bergkamp. It's been more then 15 years since and I'm still an Arsenal fan no matter which Sheikh or oligarch throws how much money into whichever team. And it all started with watching this footballer float around and score those types of goals which no matter how much you tried to emulate with your friends at the park, you could not do it. Cuz man’s first touch was insane… I wouldn’t dribble the ball if I had the nose for the ball like that. Everyone references the Pires pass, but it was such a fast sequence, but so much was going on. To flick the fast pass into a spin out to recover, takes a bunch of luck but logic to know where the ball will end up. If the defender had the foresight to just turn, he would’ve made a recovery. Best player ive ever seen. The hat trick against Leicester (i think) was something else - 3 goal of the season contenders in one game. What a boy!!

Bergkamp and Zidane. My 2 favs of all time. I have NEVER seen players with such a good technique. Can't miss controlling the ball

Funny, in the first image of Cruyff in this little documentary, he wears a trainings jersey of Feyenoord, the arch enemy of Ajax. Cruyff played his last year for Feyenoord, because Ajax didn't want to extend his contract. Cruyff took revenge by making Feyenoord champion in his last year.

What a player. Still my favourite player of all time. You can enoy his goala, his assists. I could happily sit for an hour and watch that first touch. The most elegant footballer of my lifetime.
