From the time you were born, you were manipulating fingers and toes! When you got older and became a toddler, you likely learned that bending a finger in a certain direction would get a certain reaction. The older you got, the better you got at manipulating fingers, arms and legs to cause pain and compliance. Catch wrestling is a natural martial that focuses on simply "catching" a limb and forcing it to move in a position unnatural to it. You can say that catch catch wrestling is the first martial art we develop a concept of. Because catch is a natural martial art, is is easier to master than BJJ since BJJ, unlike Catch is based not only on the goal of a technique, but even more so on the technique.

This video is a similar idea to what I've been telling myself for a while. A lot of everyday interactions is grappling. When we hug/shake hands, even being intimate or when you want someone to move a certain way, you're grappling.

I agree . "Say Uncle " was our tap out in the 60's and 70's . Humans have been beating the hell out of each other since the dawn of man . All martial arts is simply physics and biology and neither of those have changed either , so there are no "new" martial arts, just re-discovering them. I adore Catch Wrestling , it's just non stop pain compliance . I'm rarely the best grappler on the mat , but I have the biggest bag of dirty tricks!

LOL! I say what some people want to say, but they are worried about how it may sound. Some teachers can retain loyalty by just being who they are. When you were training with me, you saw what people were doing, but you also saw the "Cure" for it in class so you never felt that people knew anything that you could not handle. With most teachers though, they retain their student body based on deceit like you can't get good in bjj unless you train for 10 years. They never tell their students that if man (or woman) can teach, 6 months/3 days a week should be long enough to 10x your self defense acumen.

Do you think Terence Crawford benefits from his wrestling background in boxing? Watching him fight it always seems like he shifts his weight in subtle ways better than other fighters, making him difficult to bully with weight. I think that may come from wrestling. He’s known for being strong and I’m guessing it’s more so his technique than it is raw strength. I’d love to hear what you think

I sure hope no one tries to argue against any your commentary in this video. As far as I'm concerned it's common sense, and irrefutable. That's how we learned to wrestle as kids. The Older Fellas showed us boys how to Bare Knuckle Box, with all the dirty elbows, pokes, purring kicks etc., and to Catch Wrestle (we jus didn't call em Catch Wrestling, or Bare Knuckle Boxing). They threw in some basic Judo throws along with foot sweeps, and that was just "Street Fighting" to us. Come to think of it, that was great foundation for Advanced Martial Arts or Military Combat Training. Mind you, some of these "Older Fellas" had been in or had Older Brothers and Fathers who had been in either the Military or the Pen (a lot of times both). Probably why they knew so much about hurting people. But it sounds like these kids today have no experience with any of that, just a sign of the times I guess. Maybe that's good in some ways, although overall not really in my humble opinion. In any case, they still should listen to those who do know. So if they persist in trying to argue with you.....they're probably just young arrogant idiots.😅😂 Great video.

Would love to have done this when I was younger. No chance of that and I am born in the country where this was started, shame really. I do BJJ and enjoy it a lot though. Met two people who did catch wrestling and did a short seminar when I was doing HEMA, one woman, one man. TBH, they were brutal, great people, had some amazing moves. There's a great BBC short documentary with bouncers in the 70s showing how they dealt with people back then.

My brother is a dentist. He said the human jaw and teeth have changed over time - thousands of years. Supposedly before the invention of weapons such as the spear or knife, humans used to kill their prey with either smashing them with a stone or wrestling and biting the prey like other animals. No wonder we have small necks and traps compared to other species.

Question how much wrestling or grappling would you say a person needs time wise . When I was I middle school my gym teacher was also the wrestling coach . So each year around wrestling season if we wanted to he would teach us wrestling. But I did not go out and compete. Then for about a 2 years I trained with someone who did bjj and wrestling plus he had someone who did folk style wrestling come in and help out . I also did Japanese’s jujitsu for a few years and we did do a lot of judo stuff. But the thing is I have bad hips because I was in a car accident along time ago. So I have a little grappling but I am limited because of my hips

I know this is a little off to the side, but I think it's ridiculous how people refer to the UFC as the end-all, be-all of martial arts.. when champions have said themselves that it's far removed from pure violence. I teach self defense, and a lot of what I teach is based on using the element of surprise.. and people will say "that won't work in the UFC." Like what
