from Rochester, NY, I have cousins who lived in Pittsburg and raved about the city, had a collegue whose children studied there and came back raving about the friendliness of the people and the upbeat retail concentrated downtown. Hope the city continues it's progreass.

2 yrs ago we unexpectedly had the opportunity to purchase a home on 9 acres with 500’ frontage of Lake Erie in NE, PA. The price was excellent from where we retired from. We have found a retirement acreage community. Our neighbors are delightful, salt of the earth folks. We feel very blessed to have landed here. 2 hrs from Pittsburgh.

I moved here in 2002 when I was 18, and I'm definitely never leaving. This city has everything I'll ever need. Its absurdly inexpensive to live in even the nicest neighborhoods, the people are great, there is food from all over the world, tons of entertainment, cool little niche shops, and over 1000 acres of park split between Frick and Schenley...both within the city. Not to mention all the trees in the neighborhoods, which apparently isn't a thing in most cities. Pittsburgh has some of the worlds best hospitals and is also home to Carnegie Mellon University university. We have one of the highest bars per capita, which is cool, but also the most bridges of any city on earth, which means..... hills. Lots and lots of hill. Being in a city that quite literally has the steepest residential road in the whole country plus winter time is definitely not fun. It can get brutally cold here during the winter...and any amount of snow makes like 75% of the roads treacherous, to say the least. Also, our downtown area is essentially useless for anything other than people who work down there and the occasional show at the theaters. So, unless you really love shopping at McDonald's and CVS, there's really no point to even go there. Like every city, Pittsburgh has its problems, but since I've been here, this city has always taken care of me. I have my own house and shop now near the universities, and I absolutely love it here. Like I said, I'm never leaving this little city.

Which neighborhood? I highly recommend more of the eastern side of the city, like Bloomfield, Friendship, Shadyside, even Garfield is getting nicer year over year. But, if you want to live outside the city limits, I definitely prefer north of the city, like Bellevue, Avalon, Emsworth, North Hills, McCandless, Ross Township. South of the city has really nice affordable areas too, but the traffic is 10 times worse. All along rt 51 and 88 during rush hour is a nightmare. That's why if you do choose to live in the city, and you're close to your work, I HIGHLY recommend getting an Ebike. I haven't insured my truck in almost 2 years since buying the ebike because I just don't need to drive my truck anymore. Not to mention it paid for itself in like 6 months...just from not having to pay for parking. Eitherway, you'll like it here. I've been here since 2002 and I'm not going anywhere

Pittsburgh also has YOU! You are a lovely representative of the Three Rivers city! However, we also have some of the best healthcare such as Dr. Starzl at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) performed the world's first heart-liver-kidney transplant in 1989 and more. Great sports: The Steelers, the Pirates, the Penguins. Going to the country is minutes away with great parks, Like Moraine State Park and Lake Arthur. We don't get hurricanes, or have earthquakes. I am 73 and have never seen, nor do I know anyone who has personally seen a tornado. Our fall foliage is second to none!

The collapse of the Steel Industry caused many people to leave Western Pa. It’s cheap af to live there but unless you work a blue collar job like the road crew or the gas wells or Truck Driving employment may be far and few. PA has always been very blue collar but I’ll take it over a liberal dump like Maryland which I’m desperately trying to leave asap. If it wasn’t for me and my ex breaking up i would of already moved to Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Pa. Is a very small City being only 58 square miles the townships surrounding Pittsburgh never annexed to the city so you have to look at the County of Allegheny being 745 square miles Pittsburghs population is small but don't let that fool you its population is 300 thousand but Allegheny county is 1.3 Million its tons of traffic and its getting worse every year we have 1 or two lane traffic its an old city with Mountains so no way to increase lanes like Texas for example I am hoping on leaving this city soon everything is over priced electric is 300 water and sewage is 300 gas is 300 yes rent is 1,600 but utilities will nickel and dime you tax on gas ⛽️ at the pump is high tax on tobacco is the highest in the country car insurance is high because your car will be broken into 8 times a year my insurance is 300 a month for 2 cars 1k deductible with no accidents smh bars close at 1:30 thanks to the Pa. Liquor control board no late night life wirh Pennsylvania being a dry state think prohibition the state controls all Liquor if you can live with what I said Pittsburgh will be great for you

You mention about 'beautiful beaches' and 'paradise' when referring to Florida and California. However, it's important to remember that these same beaches can turn into home-destroying enemies, during hurricanes and tsunamis! Ever see homes falling into the sea in Malibu? How about the recent destruction of entire neighborhoods in Florida? I don't consider it paradise when it might destroy your home or even your life!

"EVERYONE is Moving to Pittsburgh," which is why or population is still at an all time low...
@livinginpittsburghpennsylvania4 күн бұрын
It’s changing!
@gyromurphy3 күн бұрын
It's definitely not at an all-time low. The highest was 330,000 in 2000, and yeah, it had dropped all the way down to 300,000 by 2019. Now it's up by 4,000. We're not a big city. People come and go all the time. Also, you have to factor in that most people dont actually live in the city. They live in the outlying townships, which 9/10 of hold the highest income per capita in the entire state. The 5th most populous state in the US and 9/10 of that state's richest townships are in Allegheny County, which if you asked those people where they lived, they'll most always say "I live in Pittsburgh" Why is that significant? Because businesses look at those numbers when seeing where to open up shop. 2 major companies based here even gained Fortune 500 status recently. The biggest draw, however, is how inexpensive it is to live here. You don't have to like Pittsburgh, it's not perfect... far from it, but since I've been here, all I've seen is growth. So many neighborhoods are revitalized and are doing very well. In 2009 it was voted America's most livable city...and I believe we'll be called that again.

How so? I moved here 22 years ago and it's absolutely perfect. I'm never leaving. It's incredibly inexpensive compared to other major cities, low crime, we have everything here that you could possibly ask for entertainment wise, even 2A rights are intact here which have long since been unconstitutionally stripped from citizens in most other cities. I suppose if your life hasn't been good while being in the city it's easy to blame it on your surroundings... but, generally, it's not about wh we re you are, it's what you're doing.

@paullucci aside from the usual "shhhhh we don't want more people here" kinda comments I keep seeing... we definitely want more people here. More people means more tax dollars and that means growth. We want business and especially industry back in this city. We won't get that by fizzling out
