Must be in countries very far away, because I have never even seen partially opened eyes on a sleeping person ever. Up to 20% seems incredibly high. I am from Central Europe and have seen people sleeping on flights and trains all over the world, never with their eyes open.

It’s just a lot more common than people realize, but don’t take my word for it, maybe look up some medical data. Most people who sleep with their eyes partially open don’t even realize it.

She is not alone. My sister has this thing too. Her eyes are always half open when sleeping, exactly like Ambika in this video. No one in my my family batted an eye over this though, unlike the way everyone else in the show seemed amazed. We thought it was not very uncommon. Btw... I am from India. I wonder if this condition is somehow common among Indians.

My niece sleep with her eyes half open sometimes too, but I think it's because she was always trying to fight sleep. We know when she's tired because she rocks back and forth aggressively with her eyes already in the back of her head so i guess it just stays there, but when she is alone watching tv or by herself she sleeps normally.

My brother sleeps with his eyes open, has since he was a kid. When he was young, he said his friend's mom actually stopped the car as they were driving to their house (he also always falls asleep if he is in the backseat of a car on a trip), and opened the back door, and he popped awake. And he says she said "Oh thank God, you're alive!" It is a little disconcerting seeing him sit/ lie there with his eyes mostly rolled up to whites, snoring.

I just read about her condition, it's called "nocturnal lagophthalmos". People usually sleep with their eyes open due to an issue relating to the facial muscles, nerves, or skin around the eyelids. About 20% of people do it, including babies.. that's a lot more than I thought 😅
