This has got to be my favorite week besides the weeks where you guys build decks around movies or shows, Tom's horror movie deck from way back was my absolute favorite. But this mill week makes a really cool mini game and makes the deck building unique.

My Osgir deck has a mill line! Duplicate Panharmonicon and Altar of the Brood, it's pretty fun. He puts a bunch of permanents on the battlefield naturally too.

I ran a Naya mill deck built around mindcrank, altar of the brood and altar of dementia (xenagos pumped creatures with big power) and it was disgustingly effective. So you don't *have* to play Ux to mill :D

Nice game - I was worried Seth didn't see his own combo twice, but he had it both times. A little surprised Tomer didn't tech into Underrealm Lich, as it gives protection from milling, along with Sidisi synergies. Phil, gotta go deeper on that Necro at the start, though you were super unlucky with lands. Probably want to draw up to like 12-14 the first few times. The awkward playstyle of not immediately getting the cards you set aside is the only thing keeping Necro off the ban list (see Yawgmoth's Bargain).

yeah having your opponents not being allowed to kill you with damage makes drawing a load off of necro very free

Also Tomer didn't get the monarch because the alchemist turns the zombie's damage into mill and someone only gets the monarch if they deal combat damage.

I like the Zellix and Haunted One for a mill strat that powers up as it goes along. It’s pretty similar to rogues but less combat oriented.

I think there’s some interesting return from exile tech that could work here. Kaya emblem, Karn, Mirror of Fate keeps restocking your library to 7 from exile.

14:37 "Every deck's gotta be blue... I don't even know if you can build a mill deck that doesn't have blue." I play a Meren of Clan Nel Toth deck and one of the ways I can win is by using creatures that have power and toughness equal to number of creature cards in my graveyard and then saccing them to altar of dementia to mill opponents for 30+ cards. I'm sure there are other cards in black that have "sac creature, mill opponent for its power" effects. Blue is obviously the color for milling though. Could be a fun challenge to build a non-blue mill deck. Now my noggin's joggin.

If you ever revisit the Artist week theme, I highly recommend Thomas M. Baxa. He did Sliver Hivelord in a secret lair, and he has a lot of really cool artwork from Tempest to today. You could probably even get away with doing a Zombie tribal or a mono-black 5 color deck or something goofy like that. Definitely one of my favorite artists.

As far as non-blue mill decks, Syr Konrad makes a pretty good mill deck. It usually does too much damage to mill anyone out for a win though. My meta went through a heavy lifegain period though and I was able to use him to deck a few people.

14:40 I did build a mono red mill deck, it isn't really powerful but it kind of works, I built it just to annoy one of my friends who hates mill, doesn't play mono color and is least favourite color is red! He happens to have a Sen Triplet, let's just say that I menaged to dodge Sen Triplet's ability 😈 That said for this week I feel an interesting meta decision would have been to build something like Karador to embrace the mill and profit of it, to then win through milling with helm of obbidience or some other mill artifacts like thrumming stone and mesmeric orb, using various effect to shuffle back stuff from your graveyard and with something that replaces draws like underrealm lich to prevent you from losing

I think a hypothetical anti-Grixis deck would have been the real tech choice in this meta. Just fill the deck with -Rest in Peace effects -Gaea's Blessing effects -Self Hexproof -Artifact and Enchantment removal -Wishes and Riftsweeper effects -Artifact and small creature tutors -Blue and Black hate Let other players flail around killing everyone else, then kill with Painter+Helm/Grindstone, SoBaM triggers, Newlamog, etc. Commander could be Shalai, Gaddock Teeg, Selvala 1, Sigarda 1, Katilda 1. Maybe Jasmine Boreal for the flex. Rocco Cabaretti if you feel the need for a Command Zone tutor. Plus you have the opportunity to kill with Secret Rendezvous!

One thing that really annoyed me this week was the fact that Crim, Tomer, and Seth's cameras were covering up the cards in library stat. Except when it was mentioned there was now way to see how much "life" each player had left. The life totals weren't nearly as relevant this week as the deck totals. That said I still like this game. A suggestion for a future game theme: You can only win if your commander is on the battlefield when you do the game winning action (so the opponent cannot remove your commander in response), and your commander has mana value of 7 or more.

I'd love to see a version of this without Eldrazi-reshuffle effects and Leyline of the Void. It feels like there were a lot of really cool ideas that didn't really get to come out due to the graveyard being so aggressively suppressed from the start of the game. Otherwise, seeing a really mill-focused game was very fun! Very much enjoyed the theme for this ep.
