Whoa, whoa, whoa Colin. Larry Bird was a very good defender, especially before all of the injuries set in. He was an excellent post defender, and underrated wing defender. He was as much a PF as he was a SF. While he was not a great athlete, he had great feet, feel and fundamentals. I think many assume that because he was an unathletic, white player, he couldn't play defense. Well, Bird could and was actually named to the all defensive team 3 times. Both he and McHale were excellent defenders.
