For travellers on the road to Mangalore, the bustling town of Kalladka, 30 kilometres outside the port city, is invariably the last stop for its KT or the Kalladka Tea and Rim Jhim Coffee tradition that goes back many decades. Something I was looking forward to too during my drive to Mangalore last week, I arrived to shockingly discover that the original 70-year old Laxmi Niwas had been demolished to accommodate the highway expansion. Whilst the eatery will hopefully reemerge in a few months, I was thankful to be guided by the locals to Laxmi Ganesh, where the family behind Laxmi Niwas continues to preserve this precious tea and coffee tradition.

When I saw the restaurant from outside, I was not impressed. When our driver strongly recommended, I went inside and found that the rest was very clean and crowd decent. Then had lunch. Lunch was simple but tasty. Did not have any bad effect next day. Next time we stopped for breakfast. It was fabulously tasty. Sambar was delicious. The service was unexpectedly topclass. Tip was recd with gratitude. Owner himself enquired our order. Simply unheard of. Cost was very very reasonable. I wish them well and look forward to visit again. Ha, for the first time I tasted spl coffee with coffee concentrate floating above milk.

I was wondering how Mr kripal can stretch a tea and coffee over 15 minutes 🤔. Salute . Truly an iconic place the original place Lakshmi nivas. We are poor in maintaining heritage buildings. It would have been nice if we could have preserved the older heritage building with its wood smoked building old chairs and like Mr kripal says stepping back in time

Old building had a essence of its own. It's our native. For a last time we had decided to take a tea break while coming back on ananth chaturdashi day. But due to much rush we could not take a last try in old building... Kripal sir next time when u come do visit Ullas fast food in Melkar.. It's also a very good place for foods...... Although this episode was dedicated to Tea but my eyes were stuck to the ideal ice cream board. I think, that's the case with non coffee & tea drinkers like me 😁 We are always looking for an alternative to the native beverages. That board also reminded me of their signature sundae "Gadbad".
