What an incredible plot. As a musician myself, this scenario offers a lot of day dreaming potential. If I were Jack though, I would go along with the lie until I die and never reveal the truth to anyone. I'd probably start thinking that the Beatles didn't really exist and that these lyrics and songs that only I know are some sort of a divine signal that I should start songwriting.

This just reminds me of "I Really Am a Superstar", a chinese novel about a guy who travels to an alternate universe where loads of different fictional media does not exist, from songs to books, games to tv shows. He recreates loads of them, yet even then he struggles greatly to reach the top. Very nice read.

@@primus3217 why bother? there are plenty of asian novels that already cover this kind of stuff, I can think of at least 2 chinese novels like this where the MC knows popular songs others don't know in that dimension, oh more if I think about those novels where they go to ancient times and impress others with a song, there are plenty of ancient novels with new knowledge like popularizing fried food or stuff like that. Or in urban novels I've seen stuff like going back a few decades back and inventing nintendo or something or at least investing Mario. There's also many where the characters invest into something. I read one where the MC invested into a tiktok-like app that others thought would fail lmao. Asian novels have a lot of self-inserting wish fulfilling plots.

The plot reminds me of two similar stories. One was an episode of an 80s TV series called "Otherworld" where a family finds themselves in a parallel world where no one has heard of the Beatles and they became alien fugitives. In that one episode, the kids who have enrolled in a local school, decide to form a band that sang The Beatles' hit songs which made them famous until the authorities who have been hunting them saw them featured on TV, so they had to be on the run again. The other was "Peggy Sue Got Married" where Kathleen Turner time traveled back to her high school days and gave her future husband Nicholas Cage the lyrics to the Beatles hit "She Loves You(Yeah, yeah, yeah) for his acappella group to sing and he insists on changing "yeah, yeah, yeah" to "Ooh, ooh, ooh" to suit his group's singing style more.

Jack Malik was a struggling singer-songwriter from the City of Lowestoft, who played shows to small audiences. His manager and childhood friend, Ellie Appleton encouraged him not to give up on his dream. During a twelve-second global blackout, Jack is hit by a bus. After recovering, he sings The Beatles' "Yesterday" for his friends, and learns that they have never heard of The Beatles. After searching the internet for The Beatles, Jack discovers the band's recordings are missing from digital trails. Jack realizes that he now lives in a world where the group never formed. He began performing Beatles songs, considering them as his own. Ellie asks Jack to record a demo with Gavin, a local music producer. After a successful appearance on local television stations, Jack was invited by pop star Ed Sheeran to play as the opening act for his concert in Moscow. Ellie, a math teacher who has a parent-teacher conference scheduled, refuses to join Jack in accompanying him to Moscow. Jack then invites Rocky, to become a manager and travel with him. After the gig, Sheeran challenges Jack to a songwriting duel. After Jack played "The Long and Winding Road", Sheeran gracefully accepted his defeat. In Los Angeles, Sheeran's tyrannical manager, Debra Hammer, invites Jack to her label, and engineers Jack's rise to global fame. At Jack's farewell party before moving to L.A., Ellie confesses that she has always loved him. Jack begins recording the album at EastWest Studios but cannot remember the lyrics to the song "Eleanor Rigby". Hoping to trigger memories of the song, Jack travels to The Beatles' hometown of Liverpool, visiting landmarks such as Strawberry Field, Penny Lane and Eleanor Rigby's grave. Ellie joined him in Liverpool, and they went on to date. But Ellie says she doesn't want to get involved in a one-night stand relationship. The next morning, Jack and Rocky chase Ellie to the train station, where Ellie congratulates Jack, but tells him he cannot be a part of her celebrity life. Jack returns to Los Angeles heartbroken and distraught. He returned to live his daily life as a newcomer musician in America. Meanwhile Ellie starts dating Gavin. The record label had been preparing to release Jack's debut album, but rejected the idea of the title - taken from a Beatles album - and renamed it One Man Only, prompting Jack to unleash his innermost talent. Jack persuaded the manager to release the album with a rooftop concert in Gorleston-on-Sea. Two people who, like Jack, apparently still remembered The Beatles, approached him at the backstage. They told him they knew he didn't write the songs, because it belonged to The Beatles. But they thank Jack, because they fear the music of The Beatles is lost forever. They gave him the address of John Lennon, who, having never formed the Beatles in this reality, survived into old age, away from the hustle and bustle of the public eye. John, who has been living happily with his wife, advises Jack to chase after his loved ones and always tell the truth. Jack immediately remembered his love for Ellie. Jack enlists Sheeran's help, so he can perform at Wembley Stadium. At the concert, Jack admits to the audience that he plagiarized music and songs from The Beatles and loves Ellie. He apologized to his fans for lying to them. And Jack said that he really loved Ellie. Jack asked Rocky to upload the songs for free to the internet, so that everyone could enjoy The Beatles' music. During the concert, Ellie was backstage and heard Jack's sincere declaration of love. Meanwhile, Debra soon became furious because Jack uploaded the songs that would be used as material for the album onto the internet. Because she will lose revenue from album sales. Debra immediately went after Jack to punish him. But Jack had run out of the stadium with Ellie with him. Rocky tries to thwart Debra's pursuit of Jack. Ellie in her antique car takes Jack back to his hometown, Lowestoft. They promised not to separate again and decided to get married. Several years later, Jack and Ellie were blessed with capable and funny children. Jack decided to stop being a star, and chose to become a teacher at the music school he founded. Meanwhile, Ellie remains a math teacher and housewife to her two children. Jack and Ellie lived happily ever after. The end.
