So this year at Dragon Con there was a panel called Ultimate Starfleet Fantasy Draft! Captain Shaw himself, Todd Stashwick, was on that panel. At the end of the panel the moderator asked each of the four panelists to choose a name for the series that their created crews would be in. Stashwick leaned into the mic and with a cheeky grin said "Well, Star Trek Legacy isn't taken". The "winner" of the panel was to be determined by audience applause. First panelist gets a few token claps, same with the second and third, the moderator gets to Stashwick and with a sigh (because she knew what was about to happen) asked who wanted to watch Star Trek Legacy every week. THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE! Standing ovation, people yelling and clapping. When things quieted down Stashwick just goes "Huh, I'll have to call Terry and tell him that".

TNG/VOY/DS9 built such a rich "universe" that I'd love to see continue, 30 years later, not 100s or 1000 years later. SNW is great but I want something continuing on with the TNG "universe". I'll give academy a shot but it doesn't sound like the kind of show I want.

Honestly, i'm not interested in watching an old some what overweight out of shape Janeway being some admiral, who has become too cosy after having been sitting behind a desk for decades. I rather want to remember her as she was when she commanded the Voyager. Please remember that Mulgrew does NOT resemble the animated character from Prodigy.

@syntrilliumc.e.p.9326 I don't even need cameos from old cast really. Just want a continuing of that universe. Could be a whole new crew, ship, whatever, though they already have one ready to go if they'd move forward with Legacy. I'm not the biggest fan of the G but it's grown on me a little.

R.I.P. Roberta Lincoln. Ms. Lincoln was a young person who worried about what would happen to her country, but, make no mistake, she loved her country, too. If the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, there were many worlds on which Roberta Lincoln had many more adventures with Gary Seven that the people of this universe never got to watch. I wonder how different a career Terri Garr would have had if Assignment Earth had been picked up as a series. It was definitely one of my Top 5 Star Trek episodes. However, even the single Star Trek appearance was enough for her to go on to become an Academy Award-nominated actress.

I do think there is a desire for ST: Legacy, it could be the legacy of the 24th century era, the open option of more Lower Decks live action, so we could see their more matured characters (that regress to old ways), there's also bringing back other characters from TNG, DS9 and Voy, even the children of the crews and what they have become, will Sisko return, did Harry actually get more pips, what did Seven say to make the -G go, did Ro manage to survive, did Livingstone the fish make it out of the -D ready room, there's just soooooo much to consider, so many loose ends to tie up (and I don't mean Admiral Dougherty's kind of 'loose ends'!!), so many more stories to be told, Legacy can be the all-encompassing series to look at it all, whilst intertwining the stories, maybe I'm just asking too much, but hey, they made my dream of the Enterprise-D coming back to life in the way I always imagined, so nothing is impossible... :)
@fredrika27

There is a desire for Legacy to actually tell the stories of Troi, Worf, LeForge, Kira, Jake, Quark, Ezri, Keiko, Miles, Rom, Leeta, Harry, Neelix, Belanna, Tom, Chakatay, T'Pol, Hoshi, Travis, etc. In other words, do right by the supporting cast. The reason Picard wasn't a great success was Patrick Stewart thought he could carry that show on his shoulders by himself while asking his colleagues to come in now and then for guests roles. When Nepenthe was the highest rated show in the first season, that should have told not only Patrick, but also Brent that the show wasn't only about them. Despite getting to see the cast in the last season, the fact that most of them, especially, Worf, Troi and LeForge had untold stories was especially hurtful. While a look at the rebuilt Enterprise was enough to satisfy some fans others left deeply sadden at how Matalas treated Worf, Troi and LeForge--as if it were 1980 all over again. That wasn't fair. Hence the call for Legacy. People want to see not only Riker and Troi's daughter who seemed to be favored over her dead brother, but also LeForge's wife and Worf's son. Likewise, when it comes to DS9, Ron Moore took the wonderful story of Jake and replaced him with Nog so that Jake's story finding his way as not a part of Star Fleet was made less. Keiko and the kids were sent off, making Keiko a single married mother. Meanwhile, Miles acted as if he didn't miss his wife at all and mostly hung out with Bashir. If we go to Voyager the same thing. Janeway, the Doctor and Tuvok get all the love in the new series and animation series while Harry (still an ensign in Lower Decks), Paris, and Balana are all but ignored. Well, I say enough of this BS. If they are going to bring the characters back, they should be given the same dignity as Picard and Seven. People want well balanced stories of their favorites and their favorites aren't just the stars of the show. What's interesting Colm Meany is now a well sought after actor whom I doubt Paramount can buy with paying scale. Meanwhile, Data played by Brent Spinner is receiving backlash because of the many times he died on the show. Over exposed greatly, fans are now asking themselves why the writers were so stupid to think that audiences wanted to see Brent play numerous characters, but not see say Crusher or Worf. Just a sad state of affairs that these writers kiss Patrick's poo while not being held to task of actually writing a compelling adventure for the entire crew in which all the crew is actually involved. That's not acceptable. Despite my friends telling me how under pressure Matalas was when he wrote Picard which I understand, his story wasn't really vetted by a neutral party to tell him not just to do cameos, but actually write something compelling. Hence why I support Legacy, but not with Terry at the helm. He doesn't have the maturity nor do I believe he will be a good fit for Jeri Ryan who picked for more pay, more profit and owning one's image along with Michelle Hurd who is all about inclusion and is a representative for SAG. Picard insulted the LGBTQA community, emphasized sons over daughters, was too white led in response to Discovery and SNL multi-racial casting with great stories and basically wrote women especially Beverly and Troi not in the best of lights nor with their own agency. Matalas can't do that with Legacy or else he will be dead in the water. Neither Michelle nor Jeri will put up with it. As for nepo baby Jack, that needs to change too! That Jack gets to walk to the front of the line as if the LeForge daughters, Lt. Mura and Ensign Esmar weren't there needs to stop. The trope of the white male young adult as genius above everyone is an insult to the characters' and the actors who play them hard work. Just no on so many levels and not on Jeri's and Michelle's watch.

We didn't see Ro die, so Ro didn't die.
@fredrika27
@fredrika27 2 ай бұрын
@@rhettbaldwin8320 Let's be honest with ourselves: when it came to writing the women in Picard, Matalas effed over many of them with the exception being Vadic and Seven. Beverly kept secrets from her friends--something which was terribly out of character for her. Troi was accused of suppressing Riker's feelings going against counselor code. Raffi needed Worf to help her out in her family relationships. Laris was dropped like a hot potato as if she weren't having an affair with Picard, becoming a symbol of how Matalas really thinks of women. Sidney and Alandra LeForge sisters were somewhat bickering while Sidney had to put up with Jack's slimmy advances. Vadic a great villian, Ro and Shelby were all killed. While Beverly and Seven got promotions, Raffi, Sidney, Alandra, Ensign Esmar and Troi didn't. Yes, Troi did save the away team, but why couldn't Matalas show her flying the D the same way Data did? In what is one of the biggest bloopers of the ending: Data commandeered the D to fly it himself, then Troi jumped to the helm to find the away team, beamed them up, then flew them out of the cube--a feat only Data could do! Yet, fans are supposed to be pleased with this ending? Matalas broke the several cardinal rules! Aou don't kill off beloved characters just to move a story forward, then tell fans they are alive because you realized you messed up. We had this BS when Rick Berman sacked Terry Ferrel. Second, you don't write all your female supporting characters as wh@res, saints and mammas because you wind up not really giving them anything substantial to do aside for being someone's wife or mother. That's not what Trek is about. We are also no longer living in 1987. Fans expect the supporting characters to have just as compelling stories as the lead characters. Terry didn't do this. He opted for a bunch a tropes while placating the die hard fans with a run in the Enterprise. Unfortunately, I can't be bought that easily.

I am less interested in the former, but the latter is exciting. I don't want "TNG II". Ideally, we would have guest appearances from previous Trek series, letting us see developments in the characters, but with a primarly focus looking forward with new characters, stories, and expansions on this delightful fictional universe. Such a series would tie back to what we loved while moving us forward to what we will love.

so, I also did some resarch the other day and to add to 07:41: the problem is, its not just up to Mr Kurtzman. When he signed on at CBS in 2018, he agreed to make several new series after discovery. As much as he would like to greenlight Legacy, the higher-ups wanna work on the projects that kurtzman signed on for originally before they do anything else, so as not to be making too many shows at once. Which is why it seems that, despite popular demand, legacy could not be greenlit due to other projects, already on the docket like the Starfleet Academy Series (a series that he’d already intended to make as part of his deal with CBS in 2018) and Section 31, are already being developed.

From what I heard Terry Matalas is finished with Star Trek. He made what he wanted and finished how he wanted. He won't be back but Mike McMahan would gladly took that opportunity. On other hand Okudas are on retirement so no more classic designs. There are more cons standing behind production side of that project than pros, like budget cut that hit Section 31 show and making it into the movie, loosing money on Halo TV series which made execs more careful with spending, scaling down scope of Starfleet Academy and reusing Discovery assets, cancelaltion of both Prodigy and Lower Decks, Paramount focusing on new original tv shows etc.

Established actors, especially ones who know they're irreplaceable, can be expensive. (Good for them, know your worth.) BUT... the studio already has so many assets - both physical and CGI - which would save them cash in that respect. And on the income side, they _know_ there's high fan demand. The executives aren't blind to that. I think it's absolutely certain that there are dollar signs in their eyes every time they see us posting about Legacy. It's inevitable that they'll bite sooner or later. I think the main blocker is that they don't want too many projects on the go at once. 5 simultaneous Treks - PIC, LD, PRO, SNW, and DIS - was probably too many. Not to mention how the S31 Long Trek was churning away in the background all that time. Soon, the only active shows will be SNW and Starfleet Academy. (We don't know yet if Tawny Newsome's resort planet comedy will get greenlit.) At that point, they'll have much more room to add a new 25th century show. I just hope that it _expands the universe._ I love the old cast, I'd love to see more of them, I have so many questions about the fates of the VOY and DS9 crews (and it's a great opportunity to give some gravitas to characters like Harry who didn't get enough love from their own shows)... but you can't sustain a franchise on nostalgia alone. We know they're absolutely capable of writing good new characters - I liked Raffi, I liked Rios, I bloody loved Shaw - and I want the writers to be a little less scared of letting new characters and old characters share the spotlight. Please, have them both. Pass the baton.

I was under the impression, possibly through Dave Blass, that the Enterprise-D Bridge was the only PIC set that was saved and put into storage. So, all the Stargazer/Titan/Enterprise-G sets may be gone. I’m really hoping I’m wrong about that though, as they were gorgeous sets!🤞As for Legacy, I know that Kurtzman has said repeatedly in the past that if a new Trek is made, it has to be something new/unique and not the same as what’s already being made. I think that, realistically, we won’t get Legacy until SNW finishes. The reason being that SNW, while in a different time period, is a live-action show, set on a starship, exploring space. Legacy, would probably ALSO be a live-action show, set on a starship, exploring space. So, even if the actual stories, characters and production style would be different, the actual basic premise/setting is the same. Remember how, when DS9 was around, it famously always had TNG or VOY running at the same time (both shows set on a Starfleet ship). One finished before the other began, which also then happened with ENT, so you didn’t have two similar shows around at the same time.

Does anyone remember Stargate: Universe? This whole situation surrounding Starfleet Academy is giving me the same vibe. Including the calls from parts of the fanbase to support the new show in the hope we get another, better show in future.

I'd love the see the newer Picard cast (with Seven, Raffi, Jack, etc.) lead Legacy, with the TNG cast playing critical but supporting roles. No disrespect for the TNG cast, but they're not getting any younger, and I think a full continuation of TNG would be... difficult, but a torch-passing is definitely what's needed. Picard S3 did a decent job of it, but they setup sooooo much possibility for a continuation!

A Long Trek to test the water would be fine, but Legacy as a series really ought to happen. The fans want it, the cast want it, and by the time it was in production, the Marvel show ought to have wrapped. The only issue that I have is that they're using Section 31 to test the Long Trek concept, and that is looking like it's going to be as divisive as season one of Discovery was.

Personally, if/when Legacy happens - I would like to see more of the Voyager cast come back, we got a few scenes with Tuvok/Changeling-Tuvok but what about Harry Kim, Tom Paris, hell even Neelix somehow - of course Janeway too. It'd also be awesome if they could get some of DS9's cast back, finally getting Captain Sisqo out of that Prophet realm he's been in to see what he's been up to, Jake, Miles, Bashir

Legacy should be given a green light but I am not sure it should be a vehicle for TNG characters. (They are all captains or above) The only exception is Wesley Crusher who I would absolutely love to see back in Starfleet, maybe as chief engineer on the Enterprise-G, or even as a science officer. At most, I think TNG characters could maybe guest star an episode but the focus should be on the new crew of the Enterprise, headed by Captain Seven

I agree 100% with this video. If watching Starfleet Academy shows Paramount that we want more, that we want Star Trek: Legacy I'm all up for it. Plus, Star Trek in the past did something similar when it introduced us to The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. 2 of which fans did not ask for but they got it anyway and years later loved it because it offered something new. Starfleet Academy is just that. People can rant on about how much they hate the 32nd century and its ships but I can say the same for Section 31. We don't need it but we need it. Star Trek isn't just exploring strange new worlds, it's about adventure and what it has to offer us. Wake up, if you don't like spy stuff and like adventure then don't watch it because I like anything Trek has to offer. Star Trek isn't supposed to be how one person wants it. Make it so 🚀

I still need to watch season 3 of Picard. Seasons 1 and 2 are the only New Trek I've seen. If Legacy were to happen, that might be what it takes to break me out of happily rewatching DS9 and VOY and convince me to pay to watch some New Trek.

This is going to be a bit of an unpopular opinion here, but I prefer new live action series with the cast of Lower Decks at the time after Picard season 3 than outright Star Trek Legacy. Have them crossover with offspring of the TNG, DS9, or VOY character and geek out while they're the senior staff of another Starfleet workhorse. That would be much more entertaining for me. Imagine how entertaining it would be to see captain Boimler interacting with ensign Kestra or commander Miral? Call it Star Trek: Upper Decks.

I think they missed the target with Academy. I think they should have put it 30 years after TNG/DS9/Voyager. They ended DS9 with O’Brian going to the Academy. They should have brought O’Brian teaching engineering, The Doctor to teach medical, and say Riker to teach command. Bring in a young group to be students who after a few years go on to another spin off on a ship. Keep rotating in a young students. Think of it as Grays Anatomy for the stars. You have the “legends” for the older fans and new stars for the younger ones. This becomes the incubator for bringing in new characters across the whole franchise.

Honestly Paramount is holding on Starfleet Academy, a series based on Discovery , that didn't have the best critics (i liked it but it wasn't as most other series) is like VW putting all their money back in ancient fuels engineering because they don't understand that Electric or hydrogen engines are the future

Give us 1 season of the Enterprise-D going around the Federation putting out brush fires while Starfleet recovers from the events of PIC s3. This is justified on the "1 year later" monologue from the last episode of the season. Give us TMG-era sets and everything.

I dunno. I feel like the only Trekkie that isn't excited for a Legacy type show. Keep in mind, I grew up with the 90s era of Trek and very much feel that those are MY shows. But I also don't like nostalgia bait, digging up up cast members for a remember-me moment, and what not. To me, I'd rather have the people behind the scenes of those 90s shows doing something, not the actors (who quite honestly forget who their characters are and don't even remember what their shows were all about). 90's Trek was special because of the collaborative force of producers and writers, not just the actors. The actors were a small part of it. Why is no one screaming to bring back people like Berman, Braga, and Moore? People forgiving Picard because of season 3 jerked us off with the Enterprise D just is baffling to me. I'd just appreciate just a plain basic Star Trek show, new cast, new ship, let's go explore. I'd like it to move forward, not set during TOS era. I want set that have lighting we can actually see, damn it. It's fine if we have the occasional special guest star, but I want the show to be like TNG or VOY, or DS9. They were their own thing, and didn't rely on "remember this". Yes, they had event shows that had Spock or DS9 in Troubles with Tribbles, but those were one-time specials, not the whole structure of the show being formed around it. I just want a freaking Star Trek show. You know, problem of the week, morality, scifi gibberish, character growth. And can we please remind these producers that Star Trek was once a show about a hopeful future? It sorta was the thing that made it stand out in the first place. Whatever. I'm probably just screaming into the wind at this point. For me, if Star Trek is to grow as a franchise it has to actually, you know, grow. Living in the past was fine for a bit, but let's move on... please!

i think we will see before i some of the new shows or in section 31 some stuff puzzle pieces they will need to introduce for legacy, Picard S 2 & 3 looked for like they were preparing the arena for legacy. I think in some other shows we will see also some stuff and we will only get really aware when legacy will be there i think sooner then later.

Let's be fair here. Without having any animosity against Star Trek Academy, the better choice of next step show would have been Legacies. The impact of Picard season 3 was massively positive, also the would be cast of the may be in the upcoming Legacies show. Doubtless more impactful than the preparations for Academy, beginning in Discovery.
